Nearly gave up on the series

The ending fight neatly had me pulling my hair out, at times it felt like a absolute slap in the face. But the end has me hopeful for the next book. I hope that that it gets resolved in the next book, otherwise it makes it feel like a cheap cop out.

Power trip

I hate not finishing a book, but I don't think I'll be finishing this set. By chapter 17 of book 2 the MC has snowballed so far from the nice pleasant character introduced at the beginning of the series to a total egomaniac that's just angry all the time. Don't get me wrong, his goals are noble and all but he is just always so angry now. He literally killed someone over something that he could have easily avoided just by asking someone to confirm what he was saying instead of losing his temper. Honestly he's not much better than the main villans of the book and I wouldn't be surprised if the whole story were flipped around so that he was the bad guy by the end of the series.

Great story but

I love the story and would love to get the second book, but I don't think I can stand the male voice actor for another book unfortunately. It feels like he was purposely WAY overdoing everything he said, like he didn't care about the final quality of the experience at all. The female voice actor was great though

I'm not sure what to say except starts of strong, but midway through it feels like it starts skipping important plot points chapter by chapter, then in the middle of chapters there's no details

Mixed feelings

Take away the narrator and do some touch up and the story would be amazing. However the absolute lack of any kind of build up for literally anything that happens is depressing, especially with the narrator being more than underwhelming in his delivery (would it kill him to give some emotion?) Major plot points just develop suddenly, without warning, without ..... well.... plot. There will be some spoilers from here on.

When Ian first has sex with Penelope, it happens without any tension being built up, coming on the back of a chapter where he was trying to assert that he isn't a trophy to be won. Like come on. 5 min ago you weren't a trophy, but the absolute most innocent teasing and the very first time your alone with the girl again you pounce, no foreplay either. Straight to pound town with what equates to penis goes in vagina as the whole scene. The next major wtf is suddenly he's the decendent of king Arthur and Merlin..... really? From there we move on to apparently he has an idedic memory when it comes to reading and studying, but only that. That one came up with absolutely 0 hinting or foreshadowing btw. This all happens within like 3 chapters.....

Just...... Breathtaking

I haven't had so much heartache for a character in a book in so long, it's refreshing, sad even though it ended up being beautiful , and I don't even know how to put it into words. The way the story completely turns around is, well, seriously intense. Being able to watch the story in my head truly puts the authors talent for what they do on top of my list of best authors. Being able to vividly picture as Eliza starts to learn to love life, being able to feel her reality shatter around her, and being able to watch as she finds the strength, tho that may not be the best way to describe it, to pull through is simply breathtaking. I always feel as if I can picture a story as I listen to it, but never in so much detail. My favorite secne in the book, even though it starts off terrible morally, is the one where she is in her car, staring at the turn. When I listened to it the first time I had to double check that the book still had more to go before the end, and normally I consider it to be taboo to look at how much is left before finishing a book for the first time, because it can lead to being able to predict what will happen next, and it can ruin a story for me, but I was terrified that the book could be over just like that, on such a horrible note. Listening to Eliza make up her mind to go home was one of the biggest reliefs I've ever had with a book, it was like I had been holding my breath till that moment. Then when Wallace showed up, and hearing the fear in his voice, the love in it, just melted my heart.

Mind blowing, Simply Mind blowing

I like to consider myself a bit of a conisour when it comes to book in any form. I have read probably around 2k books in the past 5 years. Some were long, some were short, but very few have the immersion factor that all the tamer books have given me. The story is completely unique, the progression is phenomenal. This is one of the rare stories where I feel like I'm right there with the characters fighting to survive. I can't wait for the next book in the series!! Will be checking every day for the pre-order
