Historia
Tyler Merritt's video "Before You Call the Cops" has been viewed millions of times. He's appeared on Jimmy Kimmel and Sports Illustrated and has been profiled in the New York Times. The viral video's main point - the more you know someone, the more empathy, understanding, and compassion you have for that person - is the springboard for this book. By sharing his highs and exposing his lows, Tyler welcomes us into his world in order to help bridge the divides that seem to grow wider every day.

Authentic, REAL, hilarious yet also painful, at times, as real life is. This book was everything I needed in an autobiography. Thank you, Tyler!!!! And Bravo!

Historia
Finding and identifying a pirate ship is the hardest thing to do under the sea. But two men—John Chatterton and John Mattera—are willing to risk everything to find the Golden Fleece, the ship of the infamous pirate Joseph Bannister. At large during the Golden Age of Piracy in the seventeenth century, Bannister should have been immortalized in the lore of the sea—his exploits more notorious than Blackbeard’s, more daring than Kidd’s. But his story, and his ship, have been lost to time.

Historia
As Sheriff Clayton Burroughs tries to juggle fatherhood, his job, and his recovery from being shot in the confrontation that killed his two criminally inclined brothers last year, he’s doing all he can just to survive. Yet after years of carefully toeing the line between his life in law enforcement and his family, he finally has to make a choice. When a rival organization makes a first foray into Burroughs' territory, leaving a trail of bodies and a whiff of fear in its wake, Clayton is pulled back into the life he so desperately wants to leave behind.

Historia
A deeply personal work about identity and belonging in a nation coming apart at the seams, Homeland Elegies blends fact and fiction to tell an epic story of longing and dispossession in the world that 9/11 made. Part family drama, part social essay, part picaresque novel, at its heart it is the story of a father, a son, and the country they both call home.

A thought provokingly powerful & remarkable read.
Revisado: 04-01-23
Reads like a memoir, and while, I’ll readily profess to its taking me a minute to get into, and even questioning if I’d continue reading it a few chapters in, it was not long after that that Homeland Elegies narrator/protagonist had be me so thoroughly engrossed that I stayed up waaaaay past “bedtime” two nights in a row to finish this book. It is at once, intensely intelligent & emotionally raw. Homeland Elegies will require a few reads for me to fully digest, I think. And I’ll be reading it again, soon.

I’m left quite sullen, befreit honestly upon this ending…
Revisado: 03-23-23
I’ve read patiently, & was fully engrossed with in my own belief that all of our main players and protagonists would manage through love, thoughtful, kindness & a sense longing for familial love and intimate connection, that they would all come together at Arthur Ott’s dinner party & and that these bonds would forge and lives would be merged there in that very moment in Arthur Opp’s Brownstone and all futures made bright with love, intent, and interest in future possibilities & opportunities for each & all players involved together and done so as their own chosen form of family, with Arthur at the helm. So, I am definitely left bereft here, and feel like the book should NOT END HERE. This is not sitting easily with me,,, a very unfinished ending. Makes me a bit down… just sad, I truly believed that there would be more…. And I am truthfully disappointed that there is not. Lousy ending!

Historia
Traumatized by his reeducation at the hands of his former best friend, and struggling to assimilate into French culture, the Sympathizer finds Paris both seductive and disturbing. As he falls in with a group of left-wing intellectuals he meets at dinner parties given by his French Vietnamese “aunt”, he finds stimulation for his mind but also customers for his narcotic merchandise. But the new life he is making has perils, whether the self-torture of addiction, the authoritarianism of a state locked in a colonial mindset, or the paradox of how to reunite his two closest friends.

Absolutely BRILLIANT!
Revisado: 12-14-22
While this is by no means an easy read, nor is it easy to read, it is an absolutely stellar book of importance and value in understanding our histories and a contribution to literature. I think this will become a great classic in the future. I hope it will. I feel it deserves it.

TREMENDOUS!
Revisado: 09-17-21
Rebecca Makkai, with the help of Michael Crouch (narrator), has accomplished a truly beautiful thing here. This is one of those books that will never leave you, it will enter your heart & soul & remain with you forever. A book you’ll require a “mourning period” upon completion. A book so beautifully written & richly developed you’ll wish it never to end. For the characters to stay, to just stay & be with you forever. This book is a rare find. A masterpiece of character development unlike anything I’ve experienced before. It will leave you raw, and in awe. Much like Hanya Yanagihara’s “A Little Life”, but a little less depressing & tortured, a little.

Historia
For his victims, for their families and for the investigators tasked with finding him, the senselessness and brutality of the Golden State Killer's acts were matched only by the powerlessness they felt at failing to uncover his identity. Then, on April 24, 2018, authorities arrested 72-year-old Joseph James DeAngelo at his home in Citrus Heights, Calif., based on DNA evidence linked to the crimes. Amazingly, it seemed, evil finally had a name. Please note: This work contains descriptions of violent crime and sexual assault and may not be suitable for all listeners.
