I found this beautifully written and the narration is soothing and lyrical. Carly Simon is very talented and smart and it shows in this work. I’ve always loved her music. I couldn’t finish the audiobook because of my own personal trauma which made me very anxious hearing her describe many her own early experiences, particular her role in the family and layers and layers of possible abuse and substance abuse of those around her. Maybe someday I’ll revisit but I’m too sensitive at the moment.

At times it seemed silly or trite or unbelievable, however it also felt very honest, very real and in the end made total sense and I loved it

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I Loved Rachel Dratch on SNL, especially Debbie Downer, So listening to her narrate her own memoir was very entertaining. During parts where Ms. Dratch describes the availablity of roles offered as her career falters I started to feel uncomfortable as her talent is unquestionable but there were some 'downer' years for her to describe. I hated to feel sorry for her but even then the details are very interesting and fun to listen too. And you don't need to feel bad for long, the story really picked up for me in the middle to end as she moves to dating, falling in like, living through and welcoming an unexpected pregnancy and welcoming her baby to the world. A great read or listen.

What does Rachel Dratch bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

There is nothing like hearing an author read their own story, especially when they are a talented comiedian.

What made the experience of listening to And When She Was Good the most enjoyable?

Well written mystery. The plot moved at a good speed and switched between the present and past with ease. I couldn't stop listening and couldn't wait to figure it all out.

What does Linda Emond bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Great Narration. Linda Emonds was able to read both male and female voices without sounding phony or silly. Her voice really added to the story

Try the version read by Cynthia Nixon

Characters seem overly trite and shallow due to the flat affect of the narrator. I'd like to hear the abridged version read by Cynthia Nixon because I have been a fan of Giffin's "Something Borrowed" and "Something Blue" as well as the audio version of "Heart of the Matter" read by Cynthia Nixon. Normally I prefer Unabridged audio books to abridged, but Cynthia Nixon is a talented actor and I bet it makes a big difference.
