The characters all lacked any kind of intelligent thought processes. The grandmother was the most enjoyable character.
Revisado: 03-22-25
I have enjoyed many of Jodi Picoult's books although I could do without so much profanity. But this book was just stupid! I kept waiting for it to become more believable or at least entertaining but it stayed stupid to the very end.

Revisado: 02-06-25
The story was enjoyable but at the same time it was totally implausible so you had to suspend your thinking mind. If you can do that, you will enjoy this read. The characters were interesting but, again, their interaction was implausible. Decoration was excellent. I probably will not sign up for this author again.

It was OK – not great. Also, the narrator was questionable.
Revisado: 01-23-25
The story was kind of good and I enjoyed much of it but every other chapter was a flashback which held little if any interest. The narrator was OK until she came to the voices of the soldiers and/or guards. Then she would begin shrieking in a horrible and annoying voice.

Good but I like the previous five much better.
Revisado: 10-08-24
One of the main characters in this story, Birdie, was supposed to be cute and sassy but she came across as an obnoxious brat who added nothing to the story. Unfortunately, it seemed like she was featured in almost every conversation. This book was more about human relations between the different family members but some trouble from Jemima kept story interesting.

What's with all of the "F" words?
Revisado: 05-30-24
I really like the story and the characters. I thought the narrator was great. I just don't see why there has to be so much use of vulgar language. Does the author think we would not be able to enjoy the story unless it had a generous helping of the "F" word?

Excellent Read
Revisado: 05-27-24
I like this second book even more than the first. I'm sure these stories are not even close to being accurate in any way but I enjoyed the fast pace and the characters we're interesting and multi- demintional. This narrator is one of the best ever and contributed greatly to my enjoyment of these 2 books. Definitely recommend this series.

My first artificial voice narrator
Revisado: 01-31-24
I did not expect to like this at all because of the artificial narrator but I was curious and it was included in my subscription so I decided to try it. I've got to say, I was pleasantly surprised! The artificial voice was pleasant and well modulated. There was not a lot of difference between character voices and the emotions we're not emphasized at times as they should be. But overall, it was much better than a lot of the narrators I've listened to. I would listen to this automated voice anytime. The story line was very good. So many of the Christian fiction books are such silly romances that you could listen to them with half your brain cells and be just fine. This story was actually interesting! I have listened to the first five books in the series so far and have enjoyed them all.

Great story line but...
Revisado: 01-17-24
I thought the storyline was really, really good and the narration was good but with some voices being a bit screechy. The problem was the long, drawn out explanations of the characters thoughts and feelings repeated over and over. Also, i really appreciate the religious aspects and encouraging love for God but this was almost overboard with the author beating the reader over and over with it. Anything can be overdone, even a good thing!

Historia
On his way to interview for a position at a church in the Piney Woods of Texas, Crockett Archer can't believe it when he's forced off the train by an outlaw and presented to the man's daughter as the preacher she requested for her birthday. He's determined to escape - which would be much easier if he could stop thinking about Joanna Robbins and her unexpected request. For months, Joanna had prayed for a minister. A man to breathe life back into the abandoned church at the heart of her community. A man to assist her in fulfilling a promise to her dying mother. But just when it seems her prayers have been answered, it turns out the parson is there against his will....
