As I listened to Rowan describing their experience I began as hard as I could to remember my 5th grade experience! Who was my Sofie? Was I popular or was I usually quiet with the empty seat next to me? Liking someone who didn’t know I existed? What a tough age. I really felt sadness, anguish and wanted somehow to protect Rowan. What was wrong with the adults around them? And then, I remembered the adults around me in 5th grade! It’s hard but somehow you survive and move on! Find your identity and your place! The important thing to remember is you are not alone! Thanks for the resources! Highly recommended!

Love to Hate and Love Again

Listening to this audible brought back so many memories of my life as it parallel the Jackson Family especially Michael Jackson discographies. At times I laughed, cried and found myself wanting to hate Michael for the psychological and physical abuse of young children. Sadden by his tragic end, I prayed that he may finally be be resting in peace! His contributions were enormous and will be never forgotten! A man nobody knew!

I enjoyed listening to the different experiences and similar challenges faced by these first and/2nd generation Americans. At times I found myself reflecting on my own experiences as a Puerto Rican born on the Island but raised in NYC. The immigrant story doesn’t seem to change - hard work, sacrifice and determination are at the core of accomplishing your dreams.

Latino Americans encompasses all Latin nations that contribute and are representative of these United States. It’s amazing how the struggle for racial equity continues!
I recommended this book to my brother and will most likely share it with my friends. Ray Suarez really captured the hero essence of the people who even when faced with discrimination stood up for what they believed and may made a more perfect union. The struggle is not over but the challenges will be faced bravely!
