Historia
Every day, we make decisions on topics ranging from personal investments to schools for our children to the meals we eat to the causes we champion. Unfortunately, we often choose poorly. The reason, the authors explain, is that, being human, we are all susceptible to various biases that can lead us to blunder. Our mistakes make us poorer and less healthy; we often make bad decisions involving education, personal finance, health care, mortgages and credit cards, the family, and even the planet itself.

I read for a class but loved it
Revisado: 05-26-24
This was assigned for a class, and it was so good I bought the book to highlight topics. A great overview of how to nudge to make change.

Historia
Tom Felton’s adolescence was anything but ordinary. His early rise to fame in beloved films like The Borrowers catapulted him into the limelight, but nothing could prepare him for what was to come after he landed the iconic role of the Draco Malfoy, the bleached blonde villain of the Harry Potter movies. For the next ten years, he was at the center of a huge pop culture phenomenon and yet, in between filming, he would go back to being a normal teenager trying to fit into a normal school. Speaking with great candor and his signature humor, Tom shares his experience.

Well written and interesting biography
Revisado: 05-26-24
At first, I was concerned that a person under 40 could write an interesting and engaging biography, but this was an excellent listen of success, loss, and redemption.

Historia
“The most unimpressive favorite in history.” “Fat, clumsy, gushing and stupid.” These were but a few of the things said about Anna Vyroubova, favorite of the Russian Imperial Family from 1905 until 1917 when she was arrested at the onset of the Revolution and sent to the Peter and Paul Fortress in St. Petersburg on suspicion of being part of an imperial conspiracy – orchestrated by the German-born Empress Alexandra – to hand over Russia treacherously to her bitterest enemy. She has also been called the “unintended genius of the Russian Revolution.” Painted at various times ...

Facinating Story
Revisado: 12-30-23
Listen to many books about royalty, nobility, and the Gilded Age. This was the first time I had heard of this person or her story. It was a fascinating telling of the events around and after the Russian Revolution from an insider. My only issue was the AI-generated narrator. Although not jarring, at times the pronunciation was off, but that should not stop one from listening. If you want to explore the life of the Russian royal family from an insider's perspective, give this a listen.

Historia
This audiobook chronicles the birth and rise to greatness of the American auto industry through the life of Harley Earl, an eccentric six-foot-five, stuttering visionary who dropped out of college and went on to invent the profession of automobile styling, thereby revolutionized the way cars were made, marketed, and even imagined. Harleys Earl’s story qualifies as a bona fide American family saga. It began in the Michigan pine forest in the years after the Civil War, traveled across the Great Plains on the wheels of a covered wagon, and eventually settled in Hollywood, California.

Best Health / Diet book I have read in many years
Revisado: 11-07-23
This author has really provided well-researched data on why we get fat. It is not calories, fat, or carbs. It made perfect sense. After a 10-year addiction, I even gave up diet soda! Excellent listen with excellent information.

Historia
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

Historia
He's been called "America's greatest living tailor" and "the most interesting man in the world." Now, for the first time, Holocaust survivor Martin Greenfield tells his whole, incredible life story. Taken from his Czechoslovakian home at age 15 and transported to the Nazi concentration camp at Auschwitz with his family, Greenfield came face-to-face with "Angel of Death" Dr. Joseph Mengele and was divided forever from his parents, sisters, and baby brother. In haunting, powerful prose, Greenfield remembers his desperation and fear as a teenager alone in the death camp.

Historia
The fate of Brooke Astor, the endearing philanthropist with the storied name, has generated worldwide headlines since her grandson Philip sued his father in 2006, alleging mistreatment of Brooke. And shortly after her death in 2007, Anthony Marshall, Mrs. Astor's only child, was indicted on charges of looting her estate. Rarely has there been a story with such an appealing heroine, conjuring up a world so nearly forgotten.

Loved this book!
Revisado: 10-09-23
I thought this was well-written and well-narrated, and the story was fun and intriguing. I have read a few books on the Astor's and this was the best. Anderson Cooper's book was good, but as he referenced this one, I tried it. I was not disappointed. If you want a great story of dysfunctional family dynamics, this is it. My only disappointment is it was published before the end of the criminal trial, I would love the next addition to include the trial and final outcome. Alas, one needs to read the final chaper from newspaper accounts!
