Historia
Compiled by intrepid journalist Neve Pride, this archive of recordings spans the months after dragons emerged on earth, chronicling the communities that sprang up amid the destruction, the scientists, military leaders, and experts searching for a defense, and those steadfastly seeking the missing. Neve and her young daughter Bex travel among the wreckage speaking to those left behind and surviving, against all odds. Neve records everything for history, and in the hopes of locating a clue as to where the dragons came from and how one might stop them.

A good story well told! I like the format of using survivor interviews to tell the tale. Reminds me of War of the Worlds, the old classic. Kudos for using Human Talent!

Historia
The Battle of Culloden in 1746 has gone down in history as the last major battle fought on British soil: a vicious confrontation between the English Royal Army and the Scottish forces supporting the Stuart claim to the throne. But this wasn't just a conflict between the Scots and the English: The battle was also part of a much larger campaign to protect the British Isles from the growing threat of a French invasion.

This guy's monotone puts me to sleep. Who thought it would be a good idea to have an English aristocrat tell this story? Why not a Scotsman? It's insulting.

But it will take more than just a soldier's courage to survive life in Roman Britain.

BORING.
Revisado: 09-05-24
Just like every fantasy tale, but without the magic. Or the good story. Fake Italian accent with mispronounced Latin is virtually unintelligible. Writers should leave the sword play to the movies and games. I was looking for some history.

The white bread and mayonnaise version of history
Revisado: 06-12-24
This is the Whites-only mythology that we were brainwashed with in middle school. The only Black person in the Revolution was Crispus Attucks and the only Indigenous person was Molly Brant. And they all lived happily ever after. VERY disappointing. It was like the Readers Digest version of Francis Parkman combined with the football coach/history teacher's bs stories.

A Cute Travelog, but...
Revisado: 02-09-24
This is not history. It is historical fantasy or perhaps speculative anthropology. Tons of hypotheses totally unsupported by factual evidence. Interesting tales of exotic vacations but insufficient evidence to confirm the outlandish claims. I call bullshit.

Historia
The Deerslayer is the first of the Leatherstocking Tales of James Fenimore Cooper. Here we meet Natty Bumppo as a young man living in upstate New York in the early 1740s. The action begins as Bumppo, called "Deerslayer", and his friend Hurry Harry approach Lake Glimmerglass, or Oswego, where the trapper Thomas Hutter lives with his daughters, the beautiful Judith and the feeble-minded Hetty. Hutter's floating log fort is attacked by Iroquois Indians, and the two frontiersmen join in the fight.

Historia
Considered one of the finest historical works in the English language, The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire is lauded for its graceful, elegant prose style as much as for its epic scope. Remarkably accurate for its day, Gibbon's treatise holds a high place in the history of literature and remains an enduring subject of study.
Gibbon's monumental work traces the history of more than 13 centuries, covering the great events as well as the general historical progression. This first volume covers A.D. 180 to A.D. 395, which includes the establishment of Christianity and the Crusades.

Frontier: the word carries the inevitable scent of the West. But before Custer or Lewis and Clark, before the first Conestoga wagons rumbled across the Plains, it was the East that marked the frontier - the boundary between complex Native cultures and the first colonizing Europeans. Here is the older, wilder, darker history of a time when the land between the Atlantic and the Appalachians was contested ground - when radically different societies adopted and adapted the ways of the other, while struggling for control of what all considered to be their land.

Historia
The construct of race has always been used to gain and keep power, to create dynamics that separate and silence. This remarkable reimagining of Dr. Ibram X. Kendi's National Book Award-winning Stamped from the Beginning reveals the history of racist ideas in America, and inspires hope for an antiracist future. It takes you on a race journey from then to now, shows you why we feel how we feel, and why the poison of racism lingers. It also proves that while racist ideas have always been easy to fabricate and distribute, they can also be discredited.
