It takes guys as simple as the Squid and Ogre to make a story this complicated... and they’d really rather be trucking.Good old boys, the Squid and Ogre are trucking cross country when a UFO crashes right in front of them. Against his better judgment, the Squid lets Ogre load it onto his flatbed, then the feds in black helicopters show up.Life gets a whole lot weirder when they find themselves on the run not only from the law but also from every manner of Lovecraftian horror imaginable. To top it off they also get a beautiful stowaway, named Shaurna, who may not be from their own universe...

I’m slow to give negative feedback on any author. I know how hard it is. However, this is mailed in bag of farts type material.

Narration Sounds AI Assisted
Revisado: 01-14-25
The story is quite good, Both reverence to familiar beings and additions to the Mythos are interesting and engaging (when they wish to be). I’ve been a fan of the author’s short fiction for some time, but this is my first novel. I’m glad to know this universe has aged like fine beef. I will start the next in this series post haste! Delicious pulp to distract from our imminent doom.

Historia
In his essay “Supernatural Horror in Literature”, H.P. Lovecraft famously noted, “The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown”. Dark Hall Press is proud to present our Cosmic Horror Anthology, 10 tales of nameless terror from some of the most exciting voices in the field. From stories of subtle, invasive menace to tales of full-fledged cyclopean horrors; from alien worlds to the yawning holes in perception where strange forces lurk; where nature takes on a terrifying sentience and one is not safe even in dreams.

More Pleasant Surprises Than Not
Revisado: 11-14-24
As with most anthologies, collections, etc. there are the good, the bad, and the ugly. The final tale alone was worth the credit spent. I could say the same for the first. Thoroughly enjoyed.

Do you like Christian Slater
Revisado: 09-20-24
As to the “why” part? The narrator does his Christian Slater, a lot. I hate writing bad reviews, but I was quite disappointed. A credit ill spent.

Historia
TALES OF NYARLATHOTEP is the fourth book of the Books of Cthulhu series by Crossroad Press (Tales of the Al-Azif, Tales of Yog-Sothoth, The Book of Yig). It is an anthology featuring pulpy tales of horror starring Outer God and his myriad plots as well as games. Nyarlathotep is functionally omnipotent and treats humanity like ants underneath a magnifying glass. He is impossible to kill but perhaps capable of being thwarted. Or maybe that's just what he wants you to think.

Best of the Series
Revisado: 07-16-24
This is the best collection in this series. If you enjoyed “Book of Cthulhu” 1 or 2 you will definitely dig this collection. Nyarlathotep is easily the most interesting and engaging of the Great Old Ones. It does actually notice humans occasionally, almost never a good thing for the noticed parties. There’s an absolute gem by Phipps, “Milk and Cookies for the Gentleman.

Poorly Edited
Revisado: 05-16-24
There are some really tense moments within this rambling set. There are some truly novel ideas expressed as well. That said, the scenes are not well paced. There are many examples of long, unnecessary exposition which serve more to annoy than inform or add to suspense. No holes were patched in these stories either. Exposition could have actually helped.
The narration is just bad. I’m not saying she is not a good narrator. I believe that this is more a casting choice.

Historia
The Cthulhu Mythos is one of the 20th century's most singularly recognizable literary creations. Initially created by H. P. Lovecraft and a group of his amorphous contemporaries (the so-called "Lovecraft Circle"), The Cthulhu Mythos story cycle has taken on a convoluted, cyclopean life of its own. Some of the most prodigious writers of the 20th century, and some of the most astounding writers of the 21st century have planted their seeds in this fertile soil. The Book of Cthulhu harvests the weirdest and most corpulent crop of these modern mythos tales.
