Historia
Still reeling from heavy losses on Xenotia, the Chevaliers have a new client and a new contract—one that sees Vandal sent to the war front months ahead of the rest of the company on a special assignment. Tasked with turning a hangar full of derelict uprights from a fallen star empire into a fleet of battle-ready uprights to spur a revolution, Vandal must learn how to lead his detachment of unruly mechanics. Because once they make planetfall, Vandal will step once more from the hangar to the cockpit. And those tanks are the only thing between him, and certain death.

I really enjoy this series I have listened to all the books several times at this point. I will say I have some pronunciation quibbles with the narrator of this book but nothing that can't be ignored.

Great Story- Lousy Narration
Revisado: 09-10-24
Honestly Virtual Voice wasn't that bad but there are definitely some very flat moments in the story. I vastly prefer a real narrator that's active and engaged with the story. Enough of That
I liked this story quite a bit. a good engaging setting and interesting characters. Despite my dislike of AI narration I enjoyed the AI supporting characters and the presentation of the military of the Draconis Republic.
Enjoyed the story overall would like to hear more in this setting and would listen again with a real narrator.

I love the stuff from WarGate Books but this one definitely takes a very dark turn right out the gate compared to some of the other stuff from them. There is definitely a strong horror edge to this series. otherwise in general though really enjoyed Doomsday Recon and cannot recommend it highly enough.

Great for Isekai and Ready Player One Fans
Revisado: 09-26-23
This story was an interesting listen. it's certainly not shy about wearing its inspirations on its sleeve. While I am not a huge fan of this particular Sci-Fi subgenre I have a number for friends that are and recommend it to them within the first 15 minutes or so of starting this long audiobook. I would likely listen to the other books I. the series if they become available on Audible but I am not seeing them on here currently.
With some minor editing I think this would be a great book for the teen/preteen market as that seems like the intended audience. I think the main character was meant to be in his mid twenties but could easily be aged down and the story adjusted somewhat to fit a slightly younger age range well. That is not to criticize the work but more an evaluation of the slightly frenetic pace and minor contrivances that are endemic to this subgenre of fiction.
Perfect background listening for modeling projects
Great for Isekai Fans
Ready Player One Fans
or Fans of Space Wizards of any stripe

Pulled me into the setting
Revisado: 09-12-23
My first experience with Richard Fox's books. it would be nice if there was a more clear order for where these books all fort together. There is definitely a ton of world building here which I enjoyed but might have seemed tedious if I had read the other novels. I enjoyed this one enough to give the second book a go and I've bought the whole series at this point. The Armor is neat and I enjoy the core lance characters immensely.
Minor quibble about the voice acting Roland sounds like he's from the Midwest and his accent is distracting.
Otherwise the narration is quite good with each character being easy to recognize. The narrator and editors have done a good job brining this world to life.
