Historia
For millennia, a secret society known as the Bastion has protected mankind from the horrors of the Underskin—malevolent forces lurking unseen in civilization's shadows. Monsters, demons, spirits, lawyers, and Fortune-500 CEOs, the Underskin's fiends pray upon the weak. When these creatures spill blood, it falls upon the rixators—the Bastion's elite warriors—to cut them down. Armed with ancient relics and modern weaponry, altruistic rixators hold the line against chaos. But a rixator's sworn oath of poverty grinds against Lincoln's life.

A new series and another home run for Sigler
Revisado: 06-18-24
As a fan of Sigler’s other work I was very interested in the first book of a new series. As usual with his books, you’re immediately drawn in with the action and then want to stick around for the multi-dimensional characters and a story that keeps you guessing right up to the last page.

Historia
The wizards at Ankh-Morpork’s Unseen University are renowned for many things—wisdom, magic, teatime—but athletics, not so much. When Lord Vetinari, the city’s benevolent tyrant, strongly suggests to Archchancellor Mustrum Ridcully that the university revive its sports program and field a football team composed of faculty, students, and staff—or lose the funding that pays for their nine daily meals—the wizards of UU find themselves in a quandary. First, they have to understand what makes foot-the-ball so popular with Ankh-Morporkians.

Great Pratchett story ruined by terrible narration
Revisado: 04-23-24
This is one of my favorite Sir Terry stories, I’ve read it many times, but I really didn’t enjoy this version and couldn’t finish it. The voices the narrator chose for most of the main characters couldn’t be farther from the way those character’s personalities are written and it really distracts from the excellent storytelling.

Historia
When the neighbours in question are the proud empires of Klatch and Ankh-Morpork, those are going to be some pretty large garden tools indeed. Of course, no-one would dream of starting a war without a perfectly good reason...such as a 'strategic' piece of old rock in the middle of nowhere. It is after all every citizen's right to bear arms to defend their own. Even if it isn't technically their own. And even if they don't have much in the way of actual weaponry.

The best of the new recordings so far
Revisado: 06-02-23
Jingo is one of my favorite Pratchett stories. I haven’t liked most of the new recordings of the disc world books, and I don’t think anyone could top Stephen Briggs for narration of these books. That said, Jon Culshaw does well with the voices, apart from Sybil, and is great at delivering the extremely dry humor in this story.

Another touchdown for Singler and his fans
Revisado: 09-16-21
This is an excellent 17 hour “side story” in the Galactic Football League series, which in turn is part of the 700 year spanning Siglerverse.
If you’ve read/listened the books leading up to this story, you will be very well rewarded for your time. If you haven’t, it’s still a great story, but do yourself a huge favor and go start the beginning.
Even if you’re not a sports fan or American football fan, you will love these books and end up buying extra copies of the print versions just to give away.

Historia
Ataegina was an isolated world of medieval castles, varied cultures, and conquests, vibrant until the demons rose and spread relentless destruction. Swarms of lethal creatures with black husks, murderous claws, barbed tails, and dreaded “tooth-tongues” raged through the lowlands, killing 90 percent of the planet’s population. Terrified survivors fled to hidden mountain keeps where they eke out a meager existence. When a trio of young warriors discovers a new weapon, they see a chance to end this curse. To save humanity, they must fight.

Historia
Long ago when the Earth was flat, beautiful, indifferent Gods lived in the airy Upperearth realm above; curious, passionate demons lived in the exotic Underearth realm below; and mortals were relegated to exist in the middle. Azhrarn, Lord of the Demons and the Darkness, was the one who ruled the night, and many mortal lives were changed because of his cruel whimsy. And yet, Azhrarn held inside his demon heart a profound mystery which would change the very fabric of the Flat Earth forever.

Had to return because of narrator
Revisado: 09-06-19
I love Tanith Lee, and this is a great book, but I could not deal with the horrible, sing-song narration. The narrator is fine when reading character dialog, but when not she uses the exact same tone pattern on every line of text regardless of whether it fits that line of text or not. It completely pulled me out of the story every time.
