If you drink water, you should read this book
Revisado: 10-23-24
very well researched and done. Is from a journalist POV. Really drives home the idea of out of sight is out of mind, but not gone. Also how hard it is to keep an on going crisis in sight, with the current media landscape. Narrator did great job of making you feel for the people trapped and betrayed by this man made tragedy.

At a time when we are constantly being asked to retrain and reinvent ourselves to adapt to new technologies and changing industries, this book shows us how we can uncover and develop talents we didn't realize we had - no matter what our age or background.

Great book with a corresponding great MOOC.
Revisado: 04-06-21
This book I pick up because after 8 years of Ivy League education and a decade of practicing medicine. I still found myself struggling to learn. This book along with some others (Talent Code & ultra-learning) have really changed how I interact with new information in my career. It has also introduced me to MOOCs. This book has an excellent corresponding MOOC on coursera “Learning how to learn” and “mind-shift”. Though the information is not strictly speaking new, the way it is synthesized bring it to a very real world level. I am thankful I came across this gem.

Historia
So many of us today feel like we’re merely existing instead of thriving - and that’s where a purpose-oriented mind-set comes in. Living with purpose means using your gifts, in keeping with your values, to make a positive impact on the lives of others. But it’s not easy. Half the work of cultivating greater purpose in life involves facing personal and profound questions. What matters most to me? What do I value in other people, and why? What positive change do I want to see in the world?

A step by step course on purpose.
Revisado: 02-22-21
This is a good book on a step-by-step manner of how to build your purpose statement. This book should be listened to with pen and paper. You cannot just listen to this book and get the full impact. The author uses additional references, but does go over them quickly and you may need to use the rewind button to get the reference material. this is the start not the end of "finding your purpose" but it is a very good launching point. thank you to the author for doing this work.

Burnout. Many women in America have experienced it. What’s expected of women and what it’s really like to be a woman in today’s world are two very different things - and women exhaust themselves trying to close the gap between them. Sisters Emily Nagoski, PhD, and Amelia Nagoski, DMA, are here to help end the cycle of feeling overwhelmed and exhausted. Instead of asking us to ignore the very real obstacles and societal pressures that stand between women and well-being, they explain with compassion and optimism what we’re up against - and teach us how to fight back.

Good, not great
Revisado: 10-03-20
Good book, but I feel like the over emphases on women struggles prevent a deeper message of universal struggling. it is in there, just buried.

China. Korea. Japan. Southeast Asia. How did Eastern civilization develop? What do we know about the history, politics, governments, art, science, and technology of these countries? And how does the story of Eastern civilization play out in today's world of business, politics, and international exchange?

Great job for intro course
Revisado: 09-27-15
Any additional comments?
This is a great book for anyone with a limited understanding in Asian history (most classically taught Americans) looking for general knowledge. Like an foreign history/culture study it can get a little bogged down in unfamiliar words, but the professor polity repeats them and reminds with "I am sure you remember". Overall a great introduction with a speaker who is clearly interested in the subject. I am sure some information is missing, but that can't really be helped with such a broad topic being covered.

Historia
America's blueprint for mass education has been followed across the globe - yet international student assessments show that achievement varies sharply, with the US and much of Europe typically scoring average at best. Not surprisingly, this state of affairs has sparked anxieties about an educational crisis. The problem, if there is one, is highly complex, and in these 24 thought-provoking lectures led by an associate professor of comparative and international education, you'll take a meaningful look at education around the world to understand why.

Interesting, but...
Revisado: 09-27-15
Would you consider the audio edition of How the World Learns to be better than the print version?
I think the print version would might me easier to follow the jargon.
What did you like best about this story?
Very useful global to local comparisons and clear stated limitation of comparisons. In other word very honest.
Any additional comments?
This is very interesting information and the professor does have some personnel bias, but does provides data when able to support opinions. However some of the long worded technical jargon, especially at the end of the book can make it a little difficult to follow. All in all very useful information for any one voting on school issues.
