Sunday School Adventure book?
Revisado: 09-30-18
Bible verse starts every chapter, holier than thou moral compass reminders every few pages. I have friends like that, but not that constantly pushing. Couldn't relate to someone with a friend that pushy. 6 chapters in and still waiting on the 'event' to start the series.

Feels like the author missed a lot of research
Revisado: 08-07-18
1. "Your signal is 5 by 9". Maybe it says 5 by 5 in the book, but there is no higher number than 5 on a signal report.
2. "My call sign is W7SHTF". While funny to have a "S*** Hit The Fan" callsign, it isn't valid in the united states for an Amateur Radio License.
3. A Navy Seal, even with years behind him after Retiring or ETS, has lifelong situational awareness. He gets jumped nearly back to back by surprise, really?
4. Again, a Navy Seal, having already told the reader people have lost their minds awefully fast, continues to pack his primary firearm away from reach to be outgunned and/or unprepared for 'the bad guy' more than once?
The mother, daughter, and son seem more realistic in their situations: son being a 'smart but not', daughter trying to be her own person, mother being protective, etc. Those parts are good. If you forget he's Navy Seal and don't know anything about Amateur radio, you'll probably not be bothered by any of my issues.

Historia
When society ceases to exist, who can you trust? After the collapse of the nation's power grid, America is under martial law - and safety is an illusion. As violence erupts around him, Morgan Carter faces one of his most difficult decisions yet: whether to stay and defend his home, or move to a more isolated area, away from the prying eyes of the government. He and his family are hesitant to leave their beloved Lake County, but with increasingly suspicious activities happening in a nearby refugee camp, all signs point towards defecting.

Not Enough Movement in the story, felt cut short
Revisado: 11-29-15
Would you listen to Escaping Home again? Why?
Yes, because it is part of a series, so if I listen to the series again, i would to keep things in line.
Would you be willing to try another book from A. American? Why or why not?
Not sure. This one book in the series really felt like it should have been part of a larger book as the story seems to fail to move the characters along in the bigger storyline. Spoiler Alert: They only manage to develop the characters and move from the main character's house to the secondary house that was talked about in the previous book. I could have seen most of this story in the Epilog of the previous book and the Prolog of the next instead of this story being the entire book.
Which character – as performed by Duke Fontaine – was your favorite?
I still like the main character and the First Sgt. the most. Mike is making a good impression on me for bonding a little bit with the main character's kids.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I used Audible for commuting so no, I never want my books to be so short that I would be able to listen to them in a single sitting.

Middle was good: start and finish were not.
Revisado: 06-03-13
What was most disappointing about Robert J. Sawyer’s story?
I really felt that the story's start was very jumbled. Maybe that was the point, maybe it wasn't. But anyone who listens to the end will probably feel as I did: it was rushed, rushed, rushed. I could almost see in my head a pushy publisher telling the author to finish it or to finish it in 20 pages that should have taken more than 100. Spoiler Alert: to go from only the initial people, to anyone they touched, to 'coming with the sun' in only a few pages just felt rushed.

Quite the diversion from the show!
Revisado: 06-05-12
Would you listen to Wizard's First Rule again? Why?
I'll be keeping this in my library, and will probably listen to it again at some point in the future. I really enjoy series books and sometimes I have to go back to recall all the little details if the writer knows the series future well enough to foreshadow things from several books back.
What did you like best about this story?
I enjoyed the diversion from the show: The Legend of the Seeker. The show was entertaining but they overuse the characters (contracts, ugh) but the book is able to spread out the actions among many characters to make the story more enjoyable. People can die if they must "for the cause" etc. The bad guy is extra bad: like can't put that stuff on TV bad making it easier to convey the evil-ness of him.
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
It took me a bit to get used to the narrator's voice after coming off the Wheel of Time Series, but I got used to it soon enough.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
NC17
