Well sh*t. Finally a series I don't want to end...
Revisado: 06-21-22
This series hits all my check marks... No endless repeated story lines. The author doesn't treat the reader like an idiot. Has some great surprises. Great characters. The story moves at a great pace and lose ends get dealt with in a reasonable time. Can I also say the length is much appreciated. The author is not just churning out 5 hour book after 5 hour book just to make a few bucks.
This author deserves a lot of credit in this genre for a unique plot, one that makes some sense and does not take advantage of the listener/reader just to pad his pocketbook.
I have some 560 books in my library and the majority are SHTF/ post apoc and I am kicking myself for not listening sooner.
Last but not least... thank you for bot going cheap on the narrator. I assume many like me wish we could sit and read a book but that is just not possible and audible has been the key to my sanity since 2016.
The guys like AA, BA and BC should take a few notes from JKF and stop ripping off their loyal listeners.
These 5 hour books in series that have 4 plus books so far are starting to feel like an insult and I hope listeners who agree will start writing reviews saying so. I know I am done and without a box set offer, I am not going to waste my ever smaller wallet on rehashed plots.

It’s been a long hard ride for Morgan and everyone. Just when things were starting to look up, the park was attacked, and they lost Bobbie. Danny’s physical wounds were nothing like the emotional loss of Bobbie. It was hard on Mel as well, and the rest of the group also felt the loss. With the attacks on the community becoming a greater threat, they must be dealt with. These attacks must end. But what can the group do against an army with artillery?

the cringe factor is strong..
Revisado: 06-15-22
Not exactly sure the point of this book other than to sell banking on the early books. Also the love letter this series is to Morgan is seriously cringe to the enth degree.
I will say the death of Bobbie was a personal enjoyment to anyone who knows who the real life Danny and Bobbie! So that alone was worth the use of a credit imo.
Hopefully they will tie in the 2 series asap before more listeners give up for good. But 4 years for a new book can leave the listener feeling used. After all it is the buyer in a free market who pays the bills.
Please God no more 💜 purple hearts for Morgan or gushing monologs about what an amazing savior he is. ITS TOO DAMN MUCH!

There has been a major upheaval at Mount Weather. The president has been assassinated. Her running mate, who was her husband, is sworn in as president in order to preserve democracy, but in only a short time his behavior has put the Mount Weather community in a state of turmoil. If that wasn't bad enough, Chinese soldiers have been discovered on American soil and the zeds, already an ever present danger, are continuing to show signs of cognition and teamwork. The motives of both are unknown but do not bode well for the survivors.

Pretty depressed I finished this so quickly! Takes a while to get used to not hearing from Zac and the family because 90% this book is centered around Mount Weather and the chaos they are enduring but it feels good when they get it straightened out... I am dying to hear more about Dong, Clay, Zac and his new home!

Historia
With powerful narrative drive and vivid writing, Young Washington recounts the wilderness trials, controversial battles, and emotional entanglements that transformed Washington from a temperamental striver into a mature leader. Enduring terrifying summer storms and subzero winters imparted resilience and self-reliance, helping prepare him for what he would one day face at Valley Forge. Leading the Virginia troops into battle taught him to set aside his own relentless ambitions and stand in solidarity with those who looked to him for leadership.

You think you know George Washington?
Revisado: 10-03-21
This is probably the most enlightening book on how and why President Washington ruled the way he did.
This work does not sugar coat or gloss over the failures and struggles that would craft the greatest President America has ever seen.
I cannot recommend this book enough to anyone who thinks they know who George Washington was.
Lovers of American history and The Founding Fathers have been missing this detailed account and it has been done in a magnificent way in this book!
Last but not least- he footnotes are such an amazing addition and add a rich texture to the story.
You really get a sense of how truly amazing it was to have this man in the right place at the absolutely right time in our founding and we would not be here as Americans in 2021 had it been any other man.

Surviving the End: The Complete Series is a collection of three apocalyptic thrillers: Crumbling World, Fallen World, and New World. Even before becoming a husband and father, safety had been Shane McDonald’s priority for most of his 45 years. As a nuclear engineer, it’s his responsibility to keep the Sequoyah Nuclear Plant functioning at optimum levels to avoid what protesters fear most: a meltdown.

Blind girl and her dog attacked...
Revisado: 02-17-21
If you are sick of characters named Snake, Talon and Kade and your eyes roll after the 17th time a group get's hung up by a roadside trap.... skip this one!!!!
I was on board for a while and I could do a decent job ignoring that the author treats the reader (or listener) like we are children needing everything spelled out but the teen girl and her seeing eye dog being harassed at a gas station not even 24 hours in was just too much.
I get this is fiction but come on. Grown adults high or not would never have even gotten close to her.
Her father is from page to page either a complete doofus in his own world or 100% switched on. Please pick one or split him into 2 characters.
Then you have prepper granny who sees the world is due for a SHTF situation but is completely surprised by scumbags??? But if reading about a sweet old lady being tagged teamed by brothers who somehow are lifelong domestic abusers is your cup of tea, this could be your new favorite series.
Again... this is all within a few hours to a few days of a solar emp.
*I am really disappointed in the trend of authors in this genre treating their fans as incompetent idiots.
We seek out these books for a reason and spend good money in the hopes of a good story and maybe a few new ideas. Enough withe clichés please.
Some times I find myself wondering if this is like high school and they have to continually add words for the word count minimums. Groundhog's day needs to end.

Historia
In 1942, the Gestapo sent out an urgent transmission: "She is the most dangerous of all Allied spies. We must find and destroy her." The target in their sights was Virginia Hall, a Baltimore socialite who talked her way into Special Operations Executive, the spy organization dubbed Winston Churchill's "Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare." She became the first Allied woman deployed behind enemy lines and - despite her prosthetic leg - helped to light the flame of the French Resistance, revolutionizing secret warfare as we know it.

Every American and citizen of the allied nations..
Revisado: 08-20-20
Should know the name "Virginia Hall". This is one of the greatest books written on this important hero.
She practically wrote the book on operating behind enemy lines and organizing resistance fighters and was almost erased by time and man while somehow surviving the nazis and being the most wanted spy in all of France.
She single handedly kept the French resistance in the fight and her dispatches on troop movements and locations of the German 7th Army are what allowed the US and the allies to stop them and liberate Paris more than 2 months after D-Day.
By the end of this book it is impossible to not swell with pride and anger all at the same time. Seems the CIA owes her legacy more than just a building in her name.

Historia
For four years, from the election of John Fitzgerald Kennedy until after the election of Lyndon Johnson, Clint Hill was the Secret Service agent assigned to guard the glamorous and private Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy. During those four years, he went from being a reluctant guardian to a fiercely loyal watchdog and friend. Looking back, Clint Hill tells his story for the first time, offering a tender and tragic portrayal of how a Secret Service agent who started life in an orphanage became the most trusted man in the life of the First Lady who captivated first the nation and then the world.

The story from the inside looking out.
Revisado: 06-29-20
Listening to Mr. Hill tell the story from the inside, at times feels like the listener is trespassing. So many small details are shared on a story most of us feel like we knew all there is to know. Not true.
While there is no mention of the scandals that always seem to accompany JFK like Marilyn Monroe... Mr. Hill is able to give us the view of the intense relationship of a loving couple, their love of family and the loyalty of all who were in their inner circle from the eyes of one of the men closest to Jackie.
Mr. Hill is able to truly capture the magic that was Jackie and paints her splendor in ways I would have only imagined that one would have had to see to believe. I knew she was special but was never sure if that came after she lost Jack or was something she was born with.
I was born well after the traumatic end to JFK and never truly felt I understood what made Jackie a global icon besides her taste of fashion and the grace in which she carried herself during the most personal heartaches that played out so publicly.
I have stood in The JFK Presidential Library looking at her dresses and listening to speeches but I had no concept of how universally loved and respected she was. What an amazing asset she was not only to her husband but to the nation as a whole
This book is an absolute masterpiece that brings the human side to a story that is uniquely American. It brings the tragedy that played out on national television back home and shows the personal pain and anguish felt by those closest to JFK.
From this book I strongly recommend 5 Presidents also by Mr. Hill as it delves into the impact Mr. Hill has had not only on the lives of those he served but also the changes he brought to the Secret Service.

Historia
The philosopher asks: "Faced with the mutually exclusive choice between moral principle and the survival of your family, which is the correct path?" Philosophers love to pose such questions, and in the day-to-day struggle, such thinkers rarely attain to a level of relevance rivaling that of the simple hunger pang. Their careful considerations dissipate under the leveled gun. We do not feel their disapproving gaze when The Others draw near. When the world sends doom, the survivors do not hesitate. The survivors do what is necessary.

well worth the price of admission!
Revisado: 04-05-19
This series is written in such a way as to not rely on a cheap cliff hanger as bait to trap the listener into buying the next book.
The depth of each character makes it impossible to pick a favorite. no cliche, cookie cutter line up and you can even find yourself easily identifying with the "bad guys".
I have over 250 books in my library of this genre and I can say without a doubt no other series out there has hit all the check marks I have listed so far and then some!
Last and most certainly NOT least is the talented narrator. Not sure why more authors out there have not used this guy. It had better be because of price because no other excuse is acceptable in my book. Seriously top notch and he gives such character to each without it sounding forced and fake.
I can not wait to find out what is instore for Jake, Gibbs, Amanda, Oscar, Otter and yes even Edgar, the slimy prick!
I also greatly appreciate that these books are written in such a way that the reader/listener is not treated like an idiot. You will find yourself thinking about the different situations and how they will come to a head and the surprises feel natural and not forced.
All in all this series is a real gem and I absolutely paid full price for all 3 books and will gladly continue to do so for as long as this series is allowed to live and expand.
