Historia
Two sisters. Two voices. One Heart.
The mystery of "Magic Man." The wicked riff of "Barracuda." The sadness and beauty of "Alone." The raw energy of "Crazy On You." These songs, and so many more, are part of the fabric of American music. Heart, fronted by Ann and Nancy Wilson, has given fans everywhere classic, raw, and pure badass rock and roll for more than three decades. As the only sisters in rock who write their own music and play their own instruments, Ann and Nancy have always stood apart - certainly from their male counterparts but also from their female peers.

Real life, honest and vulnerable
Revisado: 03-18-22
I was a Heart fan in the late 70s and 80s. I love that this book is not only read by Ann and Nancy Wilson but also shares the voices of their sister Lynn, they’re best friends Sue Ennis, and the voices of other band members.
Having been a fan I knew some of the basic outline of the story, but to hear them share the background and truth of their family and how they got into music, the challenges, the relationships, the reality of the music business, and their honest recall of their experiences with some famous people really was interesting.
Now that the book has ended I almost feel like I lost a couple of friends who were sharing their life story with me on a road trip!
I would recommend this book even if you are not a heart fan just because of the honesty and vulnerability of the topics they share. Such a courageous sharing!

Recommended by my practitioner
Revisado: 01-19-21
I have been on estrogen therapy for 16 years After a total hysterectomy. I asked my nurse practitioner if I should go off the hormones. She strongly encouraged that I read this book. I am so glad I did. It helps me understand why I am on estrogen replacement and should remain on it. So many more benefits than risks. It also sheds light on the fallibility of scientific research. I so appreciate the detailed case and supporting evidence that the authors of this book use. It’s so unfortunate that there are respected doctors and scientists that continue to support the women’s health initiative which Used a very unhealthy population for their study. That’s just one of the flaws. It’s fascinating reading this book about how research is conducted and how Easily it can be skewed and flawed. Lots of cognitive dissonance with authors of the medical science literature.

Historia
An utterly unsentimental journey toward the end of life, Mala is an irreverent exploration of how we live, cope, and survive in the moment. Grounded in Lopez’s distinctive emotional language and sharp humor, this powerful one-woman show dances between doctors and urgent 911 calls, a mother’s growing frailty, and a daughter’s quest for grace - all set during an epic Boston winter. Rather than depict a “right way”, the play opens the door for our universal struggle to support those we love in dying, especially when all we’ve ever focused on is surviving.

Thanks for creating art from such a challenging circumstance
Revisado: 02-27-19
I cared for both of my parents during their last 5 years. While it was a honor and an opportunity for reconciliation and sharing love from the deepest part of our hearts, it was also extremely difficult, frustrating, and maddening. Not only because of trying to reason with people who are literally losing their minds but also because of our health care system and doctors who are uncomfortable or unskillful in values relating to quality versus quantity of life. Your work along with Atul Gwande’s ‘being mortal’ and Katy Butlers “knocking on heavens door ‘ is a must read if for no other reason—to realize we’re not alone and not going crazy ourselves! Thanks for this beautiful play!!

Riviting story
Revisado: 11-04-11
The research Sides put into this story is mind boggling. It is so beautifully written, and since I was only 8 when all this happened, it was so informative. Anyone who likes a good detective story or cares about the civil rights movement and MLK himself will be sitting in their car long after arriving at their destination because this story is so captivating. Thank you Hampton Sides for telling this very important piece of history.
