Historia
Meet Charlie; unfulfilled and perimenopausal, Charlie’s suburban life is a far cry from the Manhattan glamour she once dreamed of. Her husband is incapable of talking about anything other than his latest Ironman challenge, her sex life consists of fictional encounters with Hollywood stars, her kids need constant man-management, and to make things worse, her optician has just prescribed her reading glasses. Oh, and she can’t stop crying at TV adverts… In the hope of re-discovering her sense of self, Charlie begins writing a list: 45 things to do before she’s 45.

Good Ghost Story Oddly Narrated
Revisado: 02-22-25
This book uses an automated voice or whatever. Like the voice setting that will read an article to you. It (mostly) did surprisingly well. There were a few little things like the voice saying "read" (reed) when it should have been "read" (red.) Nothing huge. I DEFINITELY think it would have been better if the narration was able to show appropriately voiced fear. (It was a spooky book.) Had the "narrator" been able to convey how scared the characters were, it would have added a lot to the book. It was good though. Not an easy guess & was able to maintain a decent mystery.
PLUS!!! I was really familiar with the location setting. I grew up about 35 minutes from there!

Historia
Who is Audrey Hoedemaker? It's a question her sister Maureen has heard more times than she can count, and she doesn't know what the short answer would be. Little sister, troubled teen, backpacker, musical theatre coach, con artist, childcare worker. Murderer. A tragic, traumatic childhood casts a long shadow on the Hoedemaker sisters. Maureen has worked hard to move beyond the violence of the past and build a good, honest life for herself. Audrey, however, just can't seem to do the same, careening from one state of chaos to another.

Oh. My. God.
Revisado: 01-16-25
Best Caroline Overington book I have read yet. I am RARELY a 5⭐️ reviewer. This got them across the board. The ominous buildup continued through the whole book, the narrator nailed every pitch and up and down, and then the end smacked me in my face.

My fiancé brought me tea and scrambled eggs in bed that morning, and we snuggled together, talking about buying our rings, and about our perfect wedding next year. Then we headed into town. He held my hand and gazed at the ring I liked best, a smile spreading slowly over his face. Then a glass of bubbly to celebrate. I felt flushed, excited and ready for the rest of my life with the man I loved. We race to get on the train home. It screams to a halt and I run towards its open doors. Made it. I think he’s right behind me — but when I turn around, he’s gone.

Dragggggsss
Revisado: 01-08-25
It could have been a good story, but it could have been done in wayyyy less than 10 hours. I kept waiting for a twist or something exciting & took a break with only 4 hours left. I RARELY do that. Good performance, but it's probably like a Frieda McFadden where the climax is in the last 5 min, but most of the book gets boring. At least McFadden's books get shorter and shorter.

Historia
Ryan and Sophie are a golden couple in Melbourne, the charming, salt-of-the-earth country boy and the charismatic, gorgeous social butterfly. When Ryan’s father dies, leaving them the family farm, it seems like a chance for Ryan to get back to his roots and for Sophie to embrace the bucolic country life she always dreamed of. But reality proves very different, and years spent struggling against an implacable drought have pushed their marriage – and finances – to the absolute limit.

Bad Reviews??
Revisado: 12-12-24
I RARELY give 5 🌟s
I had to go back at the end and re-read the reviews that made me question starting this. Even more so now, I know I would NEVER take a book suggestion from those people - we clearly have different tastes.
I had started it but wasn't really paying attention and had to start over once I heard something that really grabbed me (and it was NOT the F word!) I didn't think swear words were even slightly overused and actually thought they were used appropriately & only from specific characters. It added depth and dynamic to their character. I guess people who curse are a different lot, as are those who will tolerate it in a work of fiction. I imagine they offend easily in real life. Not this guy!
The narration was great and helped keep track of the characters. It was confusing at first because I felt like I was missing something- like what do all these people have to do with one another? But of course that works out and it's different than what I ever would have thought. I read a lot of thrillers and killer-psychopath books, but this was a very pleasant change. Quick read AND free! I'll be looking for more from this authot!

At first, they struggle to escape. Then a torrent of blows rains down upon their bodies until their eyes cloud over in final agony. Public defender Rachel Wainwright is struggling to reopen a decades-old case, convinced that the wrong man is in prison. Homicide detective Deke Morgan doesn't want to agree. But if Rachel's hunch is correct, whoever fatally bludgeoned young, beautiful Annie Dawson 30 years ago could be the source of a new string of brutal slayings.

If You Have a Uterus (or not) - Read this!!
Revisado: 07-04-24
No One Will Be Left Unscathed...This was INCREDIBLE & DEEPLY IMPACTFUL. I have read a lot of books and this was one of my most favorite EVER. If you ever questioned your morals - read it. If you stand firm in your convictions - read it. It discusses VERY sensitive & often graphic scenes of abortion, death, life, choice, religion, and LOVE!!! Such an insighful way to explore every and all situations that surround women's health care and the lack thereof. I already want to listen to it again. Worth every deeply heartfelt and gripping moment. I am not a feminist or politically active, but I cried the day the day they reversed Roe v Wade. This was written in 2018. We are in an even graver situation with women's rights and rising costs of housing, food, child care, and health insurance. My heart feels full, yet hurts. If you have a uterus - read it. And listen to the Afterword from the author. God Bless!
