Historia
At the age of 19, Queen Victoria's granddaughter, Princess Elizabeth of Hesse, stepped into the glittering court of the Romanovs, beginning a journey that would lead her from the shimmering ballrooms of St. Petersburg to the back streets of Moscow. Through intrigues, assassination, war and revolution, to the tragedy of her own horrific murder, she remained true to her calling to bring beauty into the world. Based on the true story of "the most beautiful princess in Europe", this novel is written in tribute to a remarkable and courageous woman.

Historia
Josephine de Beauharnais began as a kept woman of Paris and became the most powerful woman in France. She was no beauty; her teeth were rotten, and she was six years older than her husband, but one twitch of her skirt could bring running the man who terrorized Europe. The tale of Napoleon and Josephine is one of the most famous love stories in the world. With Josephine, Napoleon became the greatest man in Europe, the Supreme Emperor.

Historia
As the ‘Funeral Bride,’ Alexandra of Hesse-Darmstadt marries Tsar Nicholas II only a week after the premature death of his father, Tsar Alexander III. Already dismissed out of hand by the court, Alexandra has to further contend with the continuing ambition of her mother-in-law, the Dowager-Empress Minnie, who has no intention of ceding imperial precedence to the new Empress or of giving up one inch of her power and influence over her emotionally-dependent son, the new Tsar. Nevertheless, Empress Alexandra is determined to stamp her authority on Russia as a whole and on Nicholas in ...

Solid second installment
Revisado: 02-02-24
I enjoyed this second book on Empress Alix and will be continuing on to read the next three books left in the series. While I’ve had a complicated love-hate relationship with Alix’s character and this book touched on her duality as a good mother but selfish and narcissistic. Can’t wait to read more

Historia
The love story of Tsar Nicholas II and Tsarina Alexandra of Russia has long been considered a fairytale romance with a startlingly tragic ending, when the entire Imperial Romanov Family was shot and bayoneted to death by a Bolshevik firing squad in a cellar in Ekaterinburg on July 17, 1918. Nicholas and Alexandra were famously devoted to each other, writing each other cooing notes daily, but successive tides of political, military, and then revolutionary, history swept them away. At least that is the received wisdom, but the truth is somewhat more complicated. Tsar Nicholas never wanted to ...

“The most unimpressive favorite in history.” “Fat, clumsy, gushing and stupid.” These were but a few of the things said about Anna Vyroubova, favorite of the Russian Imperial Family from 1905 until 1917 when she was arrested at the onset of the Revolution and sent to the Peter and Paul Fortress in St. Petersburg on suspicion of being part of an imperial conspiracy – orchestrated by the German-born Empress Alexandra – to hand over Russia treacherously to her bitterest enemy. She has also been called the “unintended genius of the Russian Revolution.” Painted at various times ...

A must-read for Romanov Fans and Enthusiasts!
Revisado: 01-29-24
I’ve wanted to read this book since middle school and am approaching my 4th decade on this earth. Prior to reading this, I had a different perspective and opinion of the highly infamous Anna Vyrobouva. I have a greater respect and understanding of her simple and often slandered life. Regardless of your thoughts, this is a great read for anyone interested in the Romanovs and the end of the dynasty.

Grand Duke Sandro Mikhailovich lazing in the grass with Nicky Romanov in May 1883 … Within twenty-five years, the Romanovs, the most powerful, the most vicious and arguably the most bizarre imperial family of modern times will have ceased to rule Russia through a mixture of haplessness, indolence and fatalism. Sandro was a crucial witness to the collapse of his family. He was the cousin, brother-in-law and close friend of the last tsar, Tsar Nicholas II of Russia. He was with Nicky when thousands of Russian peasants died at Khodynka Field during Nicky’s coronation; he was with Nicky in ...

Historia
Margaret, Duchess of Argyll (1912-1993) was an international celebrity in her youth. But in 1963, the year of the Profumo Affair, the 11th Duke of Argyll shocked the country when he alleged that his adulterous wife had slept with over 80 men behind his back. The duke won a divorce, and Margaret was abandoned by most of her friends. Lyndsy Spence tells a tragic story of the life and downfall of this fascinatingly complex woman, and shows how she fell victim to a cruel husband, harsh social mores, and an unforgiving class.

Well written; I enjoy this author and the narrator as well. The main character herself was what I didn’t enjoy. I am fascinated by all genders, religions, colors, creeds and enjoy hearing the life stories of those who lived/live among us. Aside from people like her, that is. Lacking substance all around.
