Another beautiful story
Revisado: 04-12-24
Amy Harmon is my number one go-to author, What a gift she has in storytelling and what a gift to readers it is that she shares her writing with us.
I just finished this, her latest novel, and I am once again feeling a bit of a heartache hangover. This is not a story about a cowboy turned outlaw but about a (possibly) good man who had a history of making bad choices and who was given a second chance in life to experience love and a family of his own.
Ms. Harmon’s writing is so very beautiful it’s almost like reading a poem. I can only encourage you to read this, or any of her novels, with slow consumption so as to not miss a single descriptor or emotion evoked. I will definitely read this novel again and will recommend it to my friends.
Please don’t miss this book, especially while it’s offered on Kindle Unlimited. And thank you Amy Harmon for continuing to put pen to paper. You are one of my favorite joys in life!

Historia
Hughes Farm was the largest racing-horse establishment in the South. The family that owned it was known to be wealthy, powerful, arrogant, and terrifying. My first encounter with them didn’t prepare me for all that was to come. I don’t think anything truly could have. Growing up with only my father and brother hadn’t been easy, but we’d had each other. Losing them was the hardest thing I’d ever faced. It had made the times we went without food, electricity, or even shelter seem insignificant in comparison.

First Abbi Glines series I’ve ever been disappointed in
Revisado: 01-08-24
Ive been a huge AG fan for years and her books have always had a perfect balance of story line, character development and heat! But I listened to the first two books in this series and could barely get through the second one because of all the gratuitous sex. I like sizzle but her sex scenes began to feel like just page fillers there were so many of them. This story line had so much potential but it got boring quickly. Maybe Abbi got a bit lazy or maybe it’s just me. I’ll continue to reread her Rosemary Beach books and I’ll always have a Rush Crush but this series didn’t do it for me.

Now THIS is what great storytelling is all about! A wonderful storyline plus an author with the ability to bring that storyline to life plus a narrator with a velvety voice and you have the perfect audible experience. Please finish the next two installments quickly as I have a feeling not many options will measure up to this experience!! (But that won’t keep me from searching as this novel was something I stumbled across by accident!)

Historia
The golden skies, the translucent twilight, the white nights all hold the promise of youth, of love, of eternal renewal. The war has not yet touched this city of fallen grandeur or the lives of two sisters, Tatiana and Dasha Metanova, who share a single room in a cramped apartment with their brother and parents. Their world is turned upside down when Hitler's armies attack Russia and begin their unstoppable blitz to Leningrad.

Wow, what a story…
Revisado: 09-26-22
What a story, what in-depth characters and now my heart will never be the same. I have listened to this novel twice and I will definitely listen to it again. It is long but if you are willing to put the time in you will get to know some characters that feel real. You will understand better what life was like in the Soviet Union during WWII. And you will fall in love with the two main characters as they fall in love with each other. I cried in several places but I experienced joy in others. I wanted the story to continue but feel the author actually did end it in the correct place. Going any further would only work if this had been a series.
I feel worn out after listening to this book but I see that as a good thing. Having a definite book hang over.

Fyodor Dostoyevsky is a titanic figure among the world's great authors, and The Brothers Karamazov is often hailed as his finest novel. A masterpiece on many levels, it transcends the boundaries of a gripping murder mystery to become a moving account of the battle between love and hate, faith and despair, compassion and cruelty, good and evil.

I just couldn’t finish.
Revisado: 03-03-22
I’m afraid I couldn’t finish. I have never heard so many histrionic people in a book before. They just wore me out.
I know this is supposed to be Dostoyevsky’s finest work and also one of the finest books ever written, in general. I’m not dismissing the opinions of others. I just could not hang in there any longer. This edition was free to listen to so no hard feelings about a disappointing purchase. I’m not trying to discourage others from listening to this novel. I actually wish you well!!

Historia
Following Jane from her childhood as an orphan in Northern England through her experience as a governess at Thornfield Hall, Charlotte Brontë's Gothic classic is an early exploration of women's independence in the mid-19th century and the pervasive societal challenges women had to endure. At Thornfield, Jane meets the complex and mysterious Mr. Rochester, with whom she shares a complicated relationship that ultimately forces her to reconcile the conflicting passions of romantic love and religious piety.

Charlotte Brontë and Thandiwe Newton!
Revisado: 02-26-22
Jane Eyre is a classic I return to regularly. One that never gets old. I normally read this exceptional novel but this time I decided to listen to it with my Audible app. All I can say is that Thandiwe Newton brought to life a story I never dreamed was in need of being read to me!
Newton possesses the smoothest use of the English language and accent. Even her use of the French language is lacking the harshness sometimes experienced with other narrators. Her differentiation between characters is spot on making the experience of hearing Jane Eyre read a favorite among all the many Audible books I’ve listened to.
I highly recommend this specific reading of Charlotte Brontë. I’m now going to search for other books read by Newton. She’s that good!!

In this number one New York Times best-selling novel of first love and second chances, former high school sweethearts confront the painful truths of their past to build a promising future - together. In the spring of 1984, high school students Amanda Collier and Dawson Cole fell deeply, irrevocably in love. Though they were from opposite sides of the tracks, their love for one another seemed to defy the realities of life in their small town in North Carolina. What was Nicholas Sparks thinking?
Revisado: 12-17-21
CONTAINS SPOILERS!! This is my first Sparks book and I can tell you it will be my last! Where were the good feels that his book are known for? Why were the characters that you rooted for throughout the whole book subjected to horrific disasters that there was no coming back from? I felt like I had been emotionally torn apart when the last word was spoken with no hope of repair. If you like stories that contain murder and car crashes and alcoholics and psychotic stalking and young love that was separated only to be reunited with no possible future…this book is for you. (I finished the book two days ago and just writing this review has my stomach upset again!) I not only wish I could get my money back but my time and the emotional cost, too.

Historia
When Harland Cain holds a .45 automatic to his head and bears down slowly upon the trigger, he experiences a profound sense of control over his destiny for the first time in his life. He savors the moment and imagines the click of the hammer, the explosion, and the bullet spiraling through the barrel before everything turns black. It's then he hears the out-of-control screaming of tires on the pavement, followed by the sickening sound of metal crashing against concrete. He lays down the pistol and crosses his yard in that predawn darkness to find a young boy, bloody and dazed.

I wasn’t expecting to connect with the characters in the beginning but I’m in tears that the story is over. This is a story that shows goodness, honesty and family (even one not attained by birth) can overcome loss, evilness and hurtful people of this world. At least in this story!

Another wonderful work by Amy Harmon!
Revisado: 07-08-21
Amy Harmon is easily one of the best authors I have ever read and I wish more readers would allow themselves to experience her work. Once again she transported me to a time past and left me emotionally connected to characters I didn’t want to let go of when the story ended. As with the plot in many of her novels, Where the Lost Wander includes some painful realities of history. This time it’s American history that she addresses by writing of the braveness of the early pioneers and the heartbreaking loses they suffered while driving west. She also writes of the difficulties within the many Native American tribes trying to survive among themselves while also being pushed out of their lands. But the way Harmon writes of these things is by pulling us into the lives of some wonderful characters who are attempting to have a relationship in the middle of these pioneer and Native American hardships.
The performance was top notch as it always is in Amy Harmon audibles. Once again, I’m just sad this one is over. But I’ll revisit it as I do all her books.
