Historia
Never Have I Ever been so infuriated by a man I wanted to kiss. They say opposites attract, but I beg to differ. Combust is more like it. Because every single time I talk to Zach Nolan, I see red. The too-good-looking, too-smart, too-effortlessly-charming single dad who works down the hall from me has turned getting under my skin into a sport. Call it the battle of wits between the wedding planner and the divorce attorney. Trouble is, when we’re forced into closer quarters, planning an engagement party for our best friends, I start to see his other sides....

Sweet romance with good chemistry
Revisado: 07-15-22
Lauren Blakely has obviously got the formula down for these romcom novels. This is just one more in her series of interconnected characters in New York and London (and in some novels, Paris). There are patches of great banter, not just between the romantic protagonists.
The 2 narrators do a fabulous job with the various American voices, and they are the masters of snark! However, I cringed every time one of them attempted an English accent, especially Amanda Ronconi, who, when she apparently thought she was imitating the Queen, sounded more like a Cockney street cleaner. Jason Clarke isn't a large improvement. Luckily, there aren't too many instances of that! Even so, since these narrators seem to feature prominently in Blakely's books, I would heartily suggest that they see an accent coach for some lessons!

Historia
Nora Stephens' life is books—she’s read them all—and she is not that type of heroine. Not the plucky one, not the laidback dream girl, and especially not the sweetheart. In fact, the only people Nora is a heroine for are her clients, for whom she lands enormous deals as a cutthroat literary agent, and her beloved little sister Libby.

Banter galore w/ excellent narration
Revisado: 07-15-22
If you like witty repartée, this is a sure thing! I love the 2 main characters, and the story line is very down to earth and plausible.
Julia Whelan does a masterful job with the narration. She even does a very respectable male voice for Charlie -- no mean feat!

Love the author, love the narrator
Revisado: 05-11-22
I first came across this series and narrator via a spinoff (Bob Hoon) series that JD Kirk wrote. I was a big fan of Kirk's descriptive writing from the start. Not every author can do what this one does! Characters and scenes just fly off the page!
I'm also a sucker for a Scottish accent -- honestly, what's not to like?! -- and it's better to have the real McCoy instead of a "non Scot" putting on some unconvincing over-the-top accent. He even does a respectable job with women's voices and other accents. I'll definitely be seeking out more books read by Angus King.

Historia
What is Clare Wingate doing? One minute she's suffering in a pretty-in-pink gown she'll never wear again, and the next thing she knows, it's morning and she has the nastiest hangover of her life. To make matters worse, she's wearing nothing but a spritz of Escada and lying next to Sebastian Vaughan, her girlhood crush turned sexy, globe-trotting journalist. Somewhere between the toast and the toss of the bouquet, she got herself into a whole lot of trouble.

A repeat of the first book in the series
Revisado: 01-24-22
This book won't win any Pulitzers, but the "naughty bits" are pretty good. I liked the sexy banter!
However, there was quite a number of expressions and plot and character elements that were very reminiscent of the previous book in the series, which I listened to immediately before this one. The repetition even applies to shopping -- the characters in each book go to the same mall chain stores (BeBe, Nordstroms, etc). Kind of a turn off. I'm glad I got it for the (free) member price.
The narrator was actually not bad, though. I would consider looking into her other narrations.

The fantasy novel you’ve always wished Jane Austen had written. When Jane realizes that one of Melody’s suitors is set on taking advantage of her sister for the sake of her dowry, she pushes her skills to the limit of what her body can withstand in order to set things right—and, in the process, accidentally wanders into a love story of her own.

Horrible “British” accent
Revisado: 12-13-21
I think I got this as a freebie; I would certainly not pay full price for it! Actually, after listening for the first 5 to 10 minutes, I couldn’t take anymore and had to stop listening. I am sure it is a much better book when you read it yourself instead of listening to it on audible. In my experience with audiobooks, it’s not usually a good sign when an author reads their own book, unless it is about their own life story.

Historia
Being 40 is supposed to be freaking fabulous, not fatal. Taking on a daunting new job minus the description isn’t the smartest move I’ve ever made, even if it was to save a friend. Hopefully, it doesn’t turn out to be the stupidest...or deadliest. Why can’t things stay the way they were? I love my old job. Supergluing ghosts back together and solving their issues is its own reward. Not to mention, I’m seriously good at it. Although, I must say, I’m ridiculously excited for the new Death Counselor’s arrival in nine months....

Cheesy with over-the-top narration
Revisado: 12-13-21
I was tempted to buy this because audible offered it as a daily deal. I was a bit lost at the beginning because I had no idea who many of the characters were. Also, the narration was a bit ‘much’. I can appreciate silliness probably more than most, but this was just excessive. There was one character (a ghost nun/Tasmanian devil?) who I could barely understand at all.
I’m not inspired to buy any more books in the series. I'll returning this one.

But as she adapts to life at the isolated Hardcastle House, it becomes clear there's something not quite right about the beautiful, mysterious Mrs England. Ostracised by the servants and feeling increasingly uneasy, Ruby is forced to confront her own demons in order to prevent history from repeating itself.

Inappropriate title
Revisado: 12-13-21
I’m not sure why this book was titled “Mrs. England“. This would imply an overall focus on that character, when actually, the focus is on the governess. It seemed to me that several characters and parallels to the storyline were not really played out fully. I will not give more detail here so as not to spoil it for others.
As for the narration, it was okay, but quite depressing in terms of tone of voice. But maybe that is appropriate due to the working class status of the protagonist and general mood of the book. There was not much variation in timbre that would have reflected the age or gender of the characters. Being American myself, I won’t comment much on the accents, although there were certainly some northern accents in evidence. I couldn’t conjecture about any of the London accents, though.
