My favorite Horus Heresy story ruined by the new narrator. The previous audiobook was narrated by Martin Ellis. This new one is narrated by Gareth Armstrong. Try to find the better narration *somewhere else* online. I wish I could get a refund on this, that’s how much I hate it.

This was one of the first audiobooks that I listened to and, after 15 years, I still listen to it every once in a while. The second play, “Murder Mysteries” helps me sleep at night! I wish Brian Dennehy would narrate more audiobooks. His voice is melancholic and soothing.

The first play is an entertaining, macabre take on a classic Disney story. The second blends religion, noir mystery, scifi, romance (maybe?). As a testament to Neil Gaiman’s genius, it all blends together as very entertaining stories that reward multiple listens. I wish there were more, maybe Raguel the Angel of Vengeance, going around and solving mysteries. Haha.

This series is always recommended on Reddit.com/r/audiobooks, so I figured I'd give it a try.

It's fun. It starts with a silly premise, slowly builds up speed and then charges ahead to a lighthearted, entertaining story. Just don’t expect anything like a deep exploration of the human condition, but rather some fun popcorn listening.

The narrator does a fantastic job and adds more dimension to the (somewhat flat) story.

The story is really slow for the first 8 hours. If you read the “Publisher's Summary” on Audible, that already spoils the first 6 hours! SK’s writing is mostly narrative about the characters and their development. I’m not into the characters (except for, maybe, the dog) or enjoying their character development, so I’m not enjoying the story. The main idea of portals to other worlds is a good start, but isn’t expanded. There’s no compelling vision to make the story interesting, as with other SK books. The story has some horror, some fantasy, some coming of age, but not enough of either. It feels lukewarm and half-hearted. The ending feels rushed.
The narrator did a good job, though.

Some nice new details are added to the 40k universe, including a new enemy alien species, cloud city, Tanith-Verghastite divide, jet pack assault troopers.
Despite some new things added, this story is more of the same thing in this series. Blood, guts , good vs evil.

Obviously inspired by the Battle of Britain, this novel weaves different characters together under the backdrop of an air war. Some of the characters are sweet and endearing and I hope we can see them again. I like how they all are fated to meet each other towards the end.
This novel reminds me of an old war movie.

Mostly standard and unimaginable fantasy stories. The redeeming quality to this story is the interaction between characters Gotrek and Felix, like a “ buddy cop movie”. The narration of Johnathan Keeble and his comedic delivery makes the story even more enjoyable. Good intro into Warhammer Fantasy.

I listened to 5 books in the series and this is the best. The others are much less ambitious. I love the non-linear story line (“a memory”) that give more depth to the story and characters.

It is the sequel to The Unremembered Empire. I thought the writing and narration was good. I like anything with the Night Lords in it. The Kurze and Sanguinius dialogue was a great exposition on what makes the Night Haunter tick. The Night Lords portrayal was excellent, with a few comedic moments. I liked how they tricked the clean cut Ultramarines in the beginning. This isnt a slow boil, the intrigue starts right away.
The narration by John Banks was sublime.

Ghosts are back for this enjoyable story

It was only 6 hrs long, but I think that helped my enjoyment of it. The setting is kinda neat. The Ghosts have to police an area with insurgents and it’s obvious Dan Abnett took cues from the real life conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. The story gave some background on a few endearing characters from the novel series. One revelation was interesting and I cant wait to learn more.
I listened to the first 4 Gaunt’s Ghosts and gave up on the series. The books were well written, but it became a slog after a while. This shorter story was more enjoyable.
