My only complaint is it’s too short. :)
I enjoyed getting vignettes into how some of the main cultures and technology from the other books first developed.

Thanks for a break from John Lee. I don’t get why he’s so popular. He still sound like William Shatner over doing British ascents to me. The only book his style worked for me was the Spellmonger series. And it’s not because that was where I first heard him because it wasn’t. Ive returned books because of him.

Historia
The goblin invasion is on...and a wizard's work is never done! After facing a hopeless siege, an implacable foe, and an impossible escape, you would think that Minalan the Spellmonger would be able to rest - but the armies of the undead goblin shaman Shereul (known as the Dead God to his human victims) are rolling over the Western reaches of the rustic Duchy of Alshar and is headed toward the heart of the Duchy of Castal. Thousands are fleeing for their lives as hordes of goblins pour out of Boval Vale and devastate the rugged fiefs of the Alshari Wilderlands.

This series has much in the way of battle tactics and strategy. Subjects I have never been drawn too but is very interesting and entertaining in these books even if I prefer the world building and characters more.
I do wick they picked a different narrator. John lee is not my favorite. He chews scenery and has a cadence that makes every character sounds snooty and sarcastic. For these, it fits many of the characters. I’m he could work on his range for distinguishing characters.

Buy this version! No background music and sounds
Revisado: 03-17-20
I am loving this series and Vance is a very good narrator. I thought I was hallucinating the sound music and water because I started this late at night lol. Nope, there is a version with music and some sound effects and it’s very distracting and the music does a horrible job of matching the tone. Very happy I could exchange it for this version

Historia
Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the 10 consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor.

Yes the science is now outdated but I love coming at a police procedural from the scientific angle. Enjoyed enough to download the next in the series.
I thought the narrator did a good job. Yes she had a smoky voice, the main character and many of the others are smokers so it fits. There are some cringe worthy voices she does for the guard and nanny but overall she did a good job.

Historia
When a woman's body is discovered in a cathedral and hours later a young man is found hanging from a tree outside his home, Detective Lottie Parker is called in to lead the investigation. Both bodies have the same distinctive tattoo clumsily inscribed on their legs. It's clear the pair are connected, but how? The trail leads Lottie to St Angela's, a former children's home, with a dark connection to her own family history. Suddenly the case just got personal.

The formula for these books breaks down to DI Lottie deciding not to share information with her partner. Information that any other cop would share. Over and over this happens. The books would be much shorter if Lottie was a better detective. There bones of a good story are there but overall it fails in a frustrating way. And over and over I wonder how Lottie made DI

I’m obsessed with this trilogy. It’s like nothing I’ve read. Jemisin has created a wondrous world. You can easily visualize even though it’s like nothing before it. The characters are complete. And Miles is one of the best narrators I’ve heard. The combination creates audiobooks that you want to close your eyes and watch in your mind.

Why not just hire Shatner to read this
Revisado: 10-16-19
This guy can do accents. But he also sound like an extreme William Shatner. It’s horribly funny. I laughed so much I didn’t have the heart to return it. A good laugh is worthwhile. And underneath was another enjoyable story.

Narrated by Brit Shatner
Revisado: 10-16-19
Lee can do voices but he has the cadence of someone mocking William Shatner which add humor to prose that are not humorous. I powered through listening to his ridiculousness again because the story was good. I had to know what the fallout for Barb would be. He is NOT suited for reading these books. Maybe Hitchihikers Guide the Galaxy. That would be a good listen.

Narrator wrong fit
Revisado: 06-12-19
The stories are good. I bought this because I love a series and 3 for 1 was hard to pass up. The narrator makes the characters much more pompous and unlikable than is called for. All. The. Characters. Won’t be getting any more from this series because he reads most the others. Too bad.
