Historia
The hilly terrain next to the old Sprocket house that Meg Langslow and her fiancé, Michael, are refurbishing is the perfect location for an extreme croquet field - even the legs of cows and sheep are convenient extra wickets. Croquet has become all the rage in Caerphilly...until it appears someone in town has taken the rage a bit too literally. While stumbling down a steep bank after her ball, Meg encounters the body of a fresh female corpse with a mallet-sized dent in her head.

Fine balance of slapstick and wry humor
Revisado: 02-02-25
As the series progresses, focusing on every individual character, every spoken word by these characters. and every descriptive paragraph becomes more important. This novel is as packed with convoluted hilarity as the ones before!

It was hard to tell if I liked the story because the automated narration was SO BAD!

Lena is starting to feel like having it all may actually be possible! She and suspense novelist Camilla Graham are busily plotting their next novel and she's got a brand-new diamond ring on her finger thanks to her fiance, Sam West. The only blot on her Blue Lake life is a strange new corporation that has come to town called Plastisource. They seem to be intent on gobbling up prime real estate and changing the landscape of Lena's lovely adopted home. When she and Sam get a call from their good friend (and Blue Lake detective) Doug saying that his girlfriend - and Lena's pal Belinda - isn't answering her phone and missed a date with him, they all head out to her home.

Intricate and unusual relationships
Revisado: 06-16-24
I enjoyed the five books I listened to in the series. The author made a great twist out of forming tight, affectionate relationships from what normally would have been frienemies in ither cozy mysteries. The only complaints I have are: the narrator uses a hysterical-sounding voice in the climactic scenes, when the protagonist is written as a strong, resourceful woman; and there are only five books in the series ( or at least there are no others available through audible). Now jumping to the foodie series by Buckley!

A comedic romance wrapped in a mystery caper, these books kept me rivited! Witty dialogue, well-written characters, and plenty of plot twists will keep the listener wide-awake. Looking forward to hearing further adventures that include the newer characters.

AI needs lots of work
Revisado: 04-16-24
As near as I could tell, the stories had good plot lines and the characters were well fleshed-out. But the delivery was horrendous. With no modulated delineation between the characters, the listener was forced to concentrate more on the interpretation of the the narration rather than enjoying the story. Also the voice read each sentence the same eay, often leaving a slight inflection on the wrong word and changing the meaning of the written sentence. Nice try but no thanks.

Going to Hell has never been on my bucket list...until now. The fact that I can speak that sentence without laughing or losing my mind is absurd. However, my life has veered into a very tricky tale that rivals any of my books. The villain has been banished. I’ve written her right into an infernal doom. Unfortunately, a few of my very dear friends, fictional and real, have been caught up in the horror story, and they’ve taken the trip down under as well. It’s my fault, and I can only see one way out...a plot twist of epic proportions.

Great read for at home or in the car, but give some thought to your surrounding if you listen out loud! The dialogue in this 3-book series is as raunchy as I am in my own head, but it adds to, rather than detracts from, the story. After listening to any book by this author, I always want to hug my family and friends, cuddle the pets, crank up the music, and have plenty of laughs!

The Covington Library is hosting an exhibit featuring John James Audubon's Birds of America. During the gala celebrating the book, Brooklyn is approached by Jared Mulrooney, the president of the National Birdwatchers Society, who urgently needs Brooklyn's skilled hands to repair a less high-profile book of Audubon drawings that's fallen victim to spilled wine. But everything runs afoul when Mulrooney is later discovered dead. Rumors fly about a motive for murder.

Great part of the series
Revisado: 10-21-23
The thing I loved most about this particular book in this series is seeing Brooklyn begin to reap the benefits from efforts made in earlier installments. Some of those efforts were ones most people wouldn't have made, myself included, but they worked for this character because of her colorful upbringing. I am excited for the futures of many of the support characters and will continue with this series up to its end.
