So much yet so little. Leaves you pondering in a good way!
Revisado: 04-12-25
Never would I have thought a dystopian novel would avoid giving a whole scope of the world, but still give so much in the aspect of character development and story…You are focused solely on the competition with hints of what the world is like around it. It left me wondering about their extended universe…and that ending. WOW. Left me pondering more—in a good way!

Welcome to Black Spring, the seemingly picturesque Hudson Valley town haunted by the Black Rock Witch, a seventeenth century woman whose eyes and mouth are sewn shut. Muzzled, she walks the streets and enters homes at will. She stands next to children's bed for nights on end. If You Think It’s Getting Stupid - wait for ending!
Revisado: 06-11-20
No spoilers! Book was interesting and kept me listening until last hour or two, which was very odd-and not in a good way (like the rest of the book). I thought nothing would make me really like where the book was going until the last couple sentences, which made me feel like it was actually a good ending...maybe that’s just me though? I’m going to read more reviews now to see if it was just me thinking this.

Historia
In the beginning, the gods destroyed the world. Five hundred years later, things haven’t gotten much better for humans. The demigods that were left behind to guard over humanity have been using them as fodder for an endless civil war between themselves, and the humans just go on dutifully slaughtering each other, battle after battle. It’s not all bad, though. Perry McGown makes his living off those bloody, stinking battlefields. He works on a crew that reclaims all the spent shell casings. But if anyone found out that he was a deserter from the war, he’d be executed for heresy.

Oh Man Boring with Army Stereotypes
Revisado: 02-28-20
I feel like the characters were written flat, with super vulgar army talk that seemed forced and stereotypical in a generic action film. Maybe that is how Army people talk though? I give the narrator 5 stars because he was great with diverse voices (even women)...but man this story was hard for me to pay attention too. Wish it was better since it had such great reviews. Maybe I’m the minority here though.

So sweet and funny
Revisado: 12-04-19
Loved the Harry Potter-like book. It was still original and had a lot of music incorporated to make the audiobook all that more interesting/engaging. I got this for free in my monthly membership email perk and loved it way more than books I’ve purchased with credits. Kids would love it, and I’m an adult, so I liked it too. :)

Evie doesn't open her eyes so she can't see him, but she can smell him. He thickens the air she breathes, choking her with his scent... his aroma. She shivers. She has to resist. If she's not strong, then she will be relegated to the same fate as this predator whose sickness infects her even now. But now, she craves him and he knows that; he has been counting on her need to end the gnawing pain. How he would savor her surrender. She's alive, but how much longer will it take until she begs him not to be?

Liked More Than The First! Team Russell
Revisado: 02-07-19
I was kind of bummed in the first book because of the sickeningly-sweet romance with Reed and Evie, when I enjoyed the more natural and genuine feeling of Russel and Evie...but this book had more plot and a little more Russel evolving. I liked Brannis being thrown in there for some variety too. It is the spice of life after all. Interested to see where this goes. I honestly like Brannis better than Reed.
PS Buns kind of annoys me. Maybe it’s the weird nickname? Am I the only one thinking this whenever they say Buns and Brownie? I feel like they’re part of the Power Puff girls instead of serious angels.

Historia
Soon-to-be college freshman Evie Claremont had hoped that once she'd arrived on Crestwood's campus, the nightmare that she'd been having would go away. It hasn't. She may be an inexperienced 17-year-old, but she's grounded... sane. She looks for rational explanations to even the strangest circumstances. Since meeting sophomore Reed Wellington, however, nothing makes any sense. Whenever he's near, she feels an attraction to him - a magnetic kind of force pulling her toward him.

*spoilers* Main Romance Feels like Twilight and I’m Team Jacob
Revisado: 01-27-19
I like fantasy and romance...so I know to expect some mushiness, but this reminds me a LOT of Twilight. It reminds me of Twilight in the fact that the first book it is overly obvious that however many books come along, the main girl will end up with the semi-cold, fantastically rich, supernatural guy (Reed) who seems way too boring/fancy, instead of the more normal love interest that is far more interesting and funny/warm/genuine (Russel).
Whenever the main girl falls for the obvious rich guy it really bothers me, so I was going to stop listening to the series after this book BUT they got me back at the very end. Russell may be half angel? FINALLY, some love competition so the romance isn’t so boring/predictable. Mix it up a bit :)
So I downloaded the second book because of the twist ending in hopes to hear more of the more interesting love interest, Russel (to me anyway).
The rest of the book plot and dialogue I liked a lot and moved fast :) I did call something was up with Freddie right away, but didn’t know they’d add others to the angelic mix too (Buns and Brownie). That was a good twist.
In the end, good book so far, except the parts with just Reed/Evie that I just cringe through.

Sophie Mercer thought she was a witch, which was why she was sent to Hex Hall, a reform school for delinquent Prodigium (a.k.a. witches, shapeshifters, and fairies). But that was before she discovered she was a demon, and her hot crush, Archer Cross, was an agent for The Eye, a group bent on wiping her kind off the face of the earth.

I love how YA books suck me in...but normally I lose interest after the first book due to predictability...but this series keeps you on your toes and is interesting, and characters are believable.

Historia
The debut psychological thriller that will forever change the way you look at other people's lives. Every day the same. Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning and night. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. Jess and Jason, she calls them. Their life - as she sees it - is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.

Give it a few chapters and you'll be hooked
Revisado: 02-22-15
Amazing writing. Not every book has an alcoholic, chubby woman as the main character...and that just made it more intriguing to me. The farther you get the more twisted the tale gets. The writer is great with letting you see all sides of the story so you feel both disgust but then sympathy for characters....that's a sign for a good book to me. Enjoy the ride!

Great story and awesome narrator
Revisado: 01-30-15
I hope they paid that narrator a lot because you don't appreciate a good one until you've listened to a crappy one that gives the same voice for men and women, etc. It was delightful and cherry. All of the characters were interesting and funny. The story had many twists that were creative and I didn't see coming. What an imaginative tale!

Historia
Clara Gardner has recently learned that she's part angel. Having angel blood run through her veins not only makes her smarter, stronger, and faster than humans (a word, she realizes, that no longer applies to her), but it means she has a purpose, something she was put on this earth to do. Figuring out what that is, though, isn't easy.

Narrator sounds like a languid valley girl
Revisado: 01-17-15
For the first 3 chapters that narrator was almost too annoying to continue...very monotoned and not diverse with her character dialogue...but then the story saved the narrator. I thought it was going to be a rehashed plot...but it held my interest and got better as the book went on. The author developed characters more realistically than throwing in a romance that was so "deep". Good on you, author. I will buy another audiobook because I have a long drive coming up...I can only hope that narrator worked on being interesting like the story is.
