'Cracks' was written in a style that combines the poetic with prose, and the talented author/narrator presents us with the tale of two women struggling to survive in a world dealing with economic and social collapse. She depicts a society rife with scarcity and hardship, where the term ‘safety’ is often twisted to justify paranoia, inequality, and oppression. It also cautions the reader that even the best of ideas can go terribly wrong, and that the average person, craving nothing more than a normal life is often either the victim, or the horrified bystander.

Marcus Didius Falco is an Informer, or as we would know it today, a Private Detective. Not only is he a talented investigator, but set against the backdrop of ancient Rome, he is a truly unique character, and not only do his adventures entertain, but Lindsey Davis also manages to present this amazing culture to the listener in incredible detail. I'm hooked.

While most Americans are quite familiar with big-city crime, they are largely unaware of the problems that small towns can face. Problems that are sometimes even worse due to a combination of corruption, mismanagement, and the unfounded belief that ‘it can’t happen here in Mayberry’. But it does, and Vik Kusske has done an excellent job of chronicling his adventures as cop in Yakima, Washington, where he dealt with drugs, prostitution, murder, and yes, even the Mafia. An educational read presented in an easy-going style that will make you sympathize with his main character and open your eyes to a whole new world that exists just beneath the surface of respectability.

I purchased this title hoping for a Sinbad-style adventure with a strong female protagonist. The problem was the dialogue..and especially the copious amount of profanities were all of 21st century origin. Totally unrealistic. A little research into how people actually spoke in that era would have saved the book.

At first, the story was engaging. But, it took a turn and became a religious tale, which was not what I had been looking for. Stopped listening.

I wasn't sure who interesting a book about code-breakers would be, but as I listened, I found that the author did an excellent job telling the story and portraying the characters. Instead of being boring, the subject matter and the plot was truly riveting.

A very slow start, but not objectionable. What lost me was when the characters finally reached Germany, where the author bombards the listener with tropes and unrealistic scenes.

The author's material was entertaining as always, but the narrator he used for this book seemed better suited to a work of nonfiction than fiction. His delivery was dry and colorless.

Having been profoundly disappointed by another title, I came to "A Woman of No Importance" with a skeptical frame of mind, and doubly so because it was a biography, and I tend to prefer fiction. But this book did not disappoint and motivated me to devour it. A thrilling and inspiring tale of a woman who rose to become one of the most pivotal secret agents of World War Two. I was equally glad to hear that a movie is planned to document her life. Now let's just hope that it doesn't get turned into woke garbage....:) But even if it does, this narrative is well worth the listener's time, if only to pay her the homage that she richly deserves. Well written, well presented, and not to be missed by any student of the second world war, or the history of modern espionage.

At first, I was intrigued by the idea of a nun/lady detective, and I listened eagerly to the story. But when it became clear that the real "danger" was not murder, but a challenge to fiercely entrenched beliefs that devalue women in favor of men, I stopped being interested. This is the DaVinci Code all over again, and more evidence that as a species, we will need many centuries before we can grasp the simple concept that divinity is BOTH male and female, and of equal theological standing. I went away feeling no sympathy for the main character, her parochial mindset, or the Church that she represented.
