Historia
In the frigid pre-dawn hours, in a distressed Midwestern city, hundreds of desperate unemployed folks are lined up for a spot at a job fair. Without warning, a lone driver plows through the crowd in a stolen Mercedes, running over the innocent, backing up, and charging again. Eight people are killed; fifteen are wounded. The killer escapes. Mr. Mercedes is a war between good and evil, from the master of suspense whose insight into the mind of this obsessed, insane killer is chilling and unforgettable.

Stephen King - as always brilliant
Revisado: 10-17-14
The plot is - surprisingly - no horror story, but a "simple" crime story full of suspense and tension from the first word to the last! And the best - almost a reliable feature in Stephen King's novels: a real narrative, to some extend with freakish but nevertheless convincing characters. Just brilliant! I appreciate his narrative structure which is subtle and never pretentious. I started with "Dead Zone" decades ago in a very arrogant and snotty attitude - originally I wanted to proof that this kind of writing has nothing to do with literature. But I proved to be completely wrong! I am not an English native speaker but I can totally appreciate King's verbal skills, his empathy and extend of psychological identification with his characters and - most of all! - his sense of humour that he broadcasts thriftily but with considerable impact! Great to listen to - first-class performance, too! A treat!

Couldn't get into the story
Revisado: 10-17-14
I wouldn't say, it's a stupid story but in my opinion it's not apt for an audiobook. Usually after at most 1-2 hours of listening to a story, I get drawn into it and can't wait to get back to it. In this case I listened on and on for hours on end until I finally decided to resign - which I have only done once before. I just couldn't cope any longer! So boring! Such a rigmarole! I really do enjoy lenghty descriptions and dialogues when they are well written, but this was just unbearable. Sorry! It is just as well that I didn't waste a credit for this book but bought it as a bargain for $ 4,95. Otherwise I would have been really disappointed!

Great Story
Revisado: 11-01-12
Not difficult to be utterly taken by Elizabeth George - she is one of the best crime novel writers ever. And I really appreciate the audio productions of her books hence would be delighted to find the earlier E. George novels (that I have all read) soon as audio books. I surely would buy them all!

Historia
Inspector Thomas Lynley is mystified when he's sent undercover to investigate the death of Ian Cresswell at the request of the man's uncle, the wealthy and influential Bernard Fairclough. The death has been ruled an accidental drowning, and nothing on the surface indicates otherwise. But when Lynley enlists the help of his friends Simon and Deborah St. James, the trio's digging soon reveals that the Fairclough clan is awash in secrets, lies, and motives.

Historia
It is barely three months since the murder of his wife and Thomas Lynley takes to the South-West Coast Path in Cornwall, determined to walk its length in an attempt to distract himself from his loss. On the 43rd day of this walk, he sees a cliff climber fall to his death, apparently witnessed by a surfer in a nearby cove. Somewhat boring
Revisado: 11-01-12
I was a little bit disappointed by this book. The story is banal and the writing is not very elegant sometimes even monotone in style. I don't think that I will buy an audio book by this author again.

Historia
It is 1998, the year in which America is whipped into a frenzy of prurience by the impeachment of a president, and in a small New England town, an aging classics professor, Coleman Silk, is forced to retire when his colleagues decree that he is a racist. The charge is a lie, but the real truth about Silk would have astonished even his most virulent accuser.

Very good!
Revisado: 11-01-12
What can I say? This is Philip Roth, and this is one of his most famous novels. A very intricate, intriguing story which absorbs the reader (in this case the listener) without any fail. The reader is somewhat restrained but in a positive way. He doesn't try to imitate too many characters as some audio book performers use to. I really enjoyed this audio book.

Historia
As dusk approaches a small Dublin suburb in the summer of 1984, mothers begin to call their children home. But on this warm evening, three children do not return from the dark and silent woods. When the police arrive, they find only one of the children gripping a tree trunk in terror, wearing blood-filled sneakers, and unable to recall a single detail of the previous hours. Twenty years later, the found boy, Rob Ryan, is a detective on the Dublin Murder Squad and keeps his past a secret.

Historia
The second novel by Donna Tartt, best-selling author of The Goldfinch (winner of the 2014 Pulitzer Prize), The Little Friend is a grandly ambitious and utterly riveting novel of childhood, innocence, and evil. The setting is Alexandria, Mississippi, where one Mother’s Day a little boy named Robin Cleve Dufresnes was found hanging from a tree in his parents’ yard. Twelve years later Robin’s murder is still unsolved. So Robin’s sister Harriet - unnervingly bright and insufferably determined - sets out to unmask his killer.

Good story, bad reading
Revisado: 10-07-12
Sadly, the long and somewhat complicated story is boycotted by the overly pronounced performance by Karen White. At first I actually thought I couldn't go on with the book because of the unnatural and mannered way of accentuating the words and phrases. It irritated me so much that in future I will carefully avoid books read by her.

Interesting Experience
Revisado: 10-07-12
I agree with other reviews, that the story has its lengths. But it is never boring, even if sometimes the crude fighting scenes might not add to neither the understanding nor to the atmosphere of the plot. Anyway: a fascinating story, a very good idea and an excellent performance. I daresay that I am not the only listener to audiobooks who is mostly drawn in by a good performance of the readers. This is absolutely the case in this recording.
