Historia
St Gregory of Nyssa wrote the Catechetical Discourse as a handbook for his catechists, to help them defend and articulate the foundations of the faith, the Trinity, creation and the image of God, the fall and the nature of evil, the saving work of Christ, and the sacraments of baptism and the Eucharist. The Discourse draws upon the previous tradition—especially Origen, St Methodius of Olympus, and, above all, St Athanasius' On the Incarnation (PPS 44)—and influences later fathers like St John of Damascus in his On the Orthodox Faith (translation coming soon to SVS Press).

Historia
The crucifixion and resurrection of Christ are central events in our salvation. Yet few Christians have a good grasp of the first-century historical and religious context in which the crucifixion took place, nor of its true significance for the people of that time - and hence for our time as well. Biblical scholar and attorney Dr. Jeannie Constantinou puts modern listeners in the center of the events of Christ's Passion, bringing the best of modern scholarship to bear while keeping her interpretation faithful in every particular to the Orthodox tradition.

Historia
The Septuagint, the name given to the translation of the Hebrew scriptures between the third century BC and the second century AD, played a central role in the Bible's history. Many of the Hebrew scriptures were still evolving when they were translated into Greek, and these Greek translations, along with several new Greek writings, became Holy Scripture in the early Church. Yet gradually the Septuagint lost its place at the heart of Western Christianity.

Historia
A denial of the sufficiency of Scripture is at the core of almost every form of opposition to the Christian faith today. Scripture Alone is written to instill a passionate love for and understanding of the Bible. In this defense of God's inspired Word, listeners will comprehend what "God's Word" is, the nature of Scripture, the relationship of the Bible to tradition, how to apply Scripture to today's issues, and much more. Included is a faith-inspiring study of the canon - what it is and where it came from.

Great primer on Sola Scriptura!
Revisado: 01-03-23
Overall I thought the book was a great intro to Sola Scriptura. I will say however, tho it is a good listen with an excellent narrator, this is a book one probably would benefit better from actually reading. Just my opinion, as I had to skip back multiple times because of the "dialogues" that take place within.

This is an academic work describing how the New Testament writers re-purpose Genesis 6:1-5 in their presentation of Jesus as messiah. Though every topic addressed in Reversing Hermon can be found in scholarly academic literature, Reversing Hermon is the first book to gather this information and make it accessible to Bible students everywhere. The book also includes lengthy appendices on the ancient debate on the inspiration of the book of 1 Enoch, New Testament allusions to the book, and academic resources.

Historia
Luke Timothy Johnson, the best-selling author of The Real Jesus, offers a fresh and historically grounded assessment of the life and letters of Christianity's "apostle to the Gentiles" in this 12-lecture series. "One of the most fascinating, important, and controversial figures in the religious history of the West, Paul the Apostle continues to find champions and detractors, sometimes in surprising places," says Professor Johnson. Coming to grips with Christianity means coming to grips with Paul.

A great class taught by a good professor!
Revisado: 03-27-20
I finished this class in one day and we'll be listening to it again for sure? I absolutely love the fact that Professor L.T. Johnson is a believer in what he teaches. That makes or breaks a class for me. It's nice to get a perspective from someone who does not believe what they teach but it makes the class "more" when you believe, especially with Christianity.
So many study to disprove the faith, but this teacher goes against the grain, in more than one way as you will see if you purchase this, and that's one reason why I will listen again and again.
Great perspective on Paul and looking forward to any other classes that ProfessorJohnson teaches!

Many of us have been told that we will be "raptured out of here before the Antichrist arrives". But what if this is wrong? Is this really what the Bible teaches? In this thought-provoking and freshly examined account on the second coming of Christ, Alan Kurschner traces the key topics and passages, providing compelling biblical evidence that the church will first encounter the Antichrist's great tribulation before Christ returns to rapture his people and judge the world.

honestly...I truly wanted this book to be true.
Revisado: 12-20-19
I have desired (not saying the Bible isn't enough...it is) a different experience with God. I have always wanted to see a vision (and maybe I have I'm not sure) but when you have to take verses out of context and give them a meaning the Original Author (The Holy Spirit Himself) never intended...you have to wonder if the author of this book is speaking with the Holy Spirit? Satan disguises himself as an angel of light and Satan's characteristic is to "quote Scripture" with devious intent.
Maybe this author is just misunderstanding what Scripture means or maybe he is intentionally ripping verses out of context and saying they mean what they don't so genuine Christin's, who genuinely want a closer relationship with our God and Father, The Son Jesus Christ, and The Holy Spirit, just so you will buy his book? I don't know his heart. But I do see his mishandling of the Word of God and he will be judged for it. Teachers, like myself and this author will receive a stricter judgement (James 3:1) therefore receiving greater consequences.
There's not enough room to give examples here, but what I am going to do is review this book on my podcast (every episode is free at www.completesinners.com) and show how the author is not interpreting said verses correctly. for anyone reading this we must read the Bible in its context. We cannot just take a verse, separated from its context, and say it mean something that it doesn't. I will be giving examples of the verses misused as well as giving the context of the that which the verse is in. again My podcast is free because I believe that truth doesn't have to be bought.
"Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see if they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world."
1 John 4:1
How do we test the spirits?
The people here were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, since they received the word with eagerness and EXAMINED THE SCRIPTURES DAILY TO SEE IF THESE THINGS (what Paul was explaing to them about Christ and the Gospel) were so.
Acts 17:11 (clarification mine)
Study the Bible and ask God for clarification and understanding through prayer! James (inspired by the Holy Spirit) promises that if we ask God for wisdom He will, most assuredly, give wisdom to us if we do not doubt. thank you for taking the time to read this, and I will be praying for this author's repentance and that God would give him genuine understanding.
(Personal note):
When I hear things like this my heart truly breaks because this is a best-selling book.... please if you still want to buy this book... take your Bible and every time he quotes a verse check it to make sure he's applying truth from the context. if you do this you will very very soon realize that he's not. and a genuinely breaks my heart
