Historia
Could you or someone you know be married to a sociopath? The author of this book was, but it took her twenty years to figure it out. She wrote this book to make sure the same thing doesn’t happen to other people. Onna thought the classmate she married was her Prince Charming—kind, honest, loving, and intellectually vibrant—but she was wrong. That “spark” she felt wasn’t true love, it was a trap—custom designed to ensnare her. Onna’s repayment for investing twenty years into her marriage and unwittingly providing her husband with a façade of normalcy was ongoing gaslighting ...

All My Knotted-Up Life is a beautifully crafted portrait of resilience and survival, a poignant reminder of God’s enduring faithfulness, and proof positive that if we ever truly took the time to hear people’s full stories . . . we’d all walk around slack-jawed.

Listen. To. This. IMMEDIATELY!!
Revisado: 07-29-24
Best memoir I have EVER read/listened to!!
Beth Moore was a fave of a (very) unlikely mentor I had in the first days of my walk with Jesus. (Think tattooed, drug addicted, alcoholic, several times married biker chick - me, and lovely actual lady who grew up aspiring to be a Sunday school teacher and then was -her). She was always reading a Beth Moore book that she always shared with me and she led several studies at our office. But then I somehow put this author to the back of my mind though I had grown to love her myself.
I somehow missed the troubles she experienced because of tweets, but I would have reinstated my account and supported her had I known.
And now I have 3 new studies in my Amazon cart! I cried and laughed in equal measure during this book and I am now a firm believer Beth Moore needs to become a professional narrator. Even if you aren’t “Christiany”, you will love this!

Everyone in my family has killed someone. Some of us, the high achievers, have killed more than once. I’m not trying to be dramatic, but it is the truth. Some of us are good, others are bad, and some just unfortunate. I’m Ernest Cunningham. Call me Ern or Ernie. I wish I’d killed whoever decided our family reunion should be at a ski resort, but it’s a little more complicated than that.

Narrator doesn’t understand word pronunciation
Revisado: 06-16-24
I am completely shocked that people actually like this performer. If the book wasn’t so good, I would send it back just because of him.
Assume is NOT pronounced aSHume. Presumably is NOT preSHumably. I’ve never read/listened to a book that uses those 2 words as much as this one does. Or maybe it’s the glaring mispronunciation that makes them stand out.
Also, I understand accents - I 100% sound like cornbread - but Rs do make a sound.
The story, howMever (if assume is aSHume, however is howMever), is one of the very best! So funny, so very But Then What Happens, just so well written and enjoyable.
I can’t make myself look, but praying Book 2 is read by someone else…

What was it even about?!
Revisado: 05-14-24
This is the first book from Oprah’s book club that I have not loved. Ever. I’ve read/listened to them for years. Some of my lifelong faves are from her choices and many I never would have picked myself.
With this one, I’m not even sure what the point of the “story” (is there a story?!) is.
All of the characters except Eilis have a Brooklyn ish accent and sound like someone old that smoked a lot of cigarettes. All of them. Teenagers included. Can’t tell if they are male or female. Just old, from Brooklyn, life long smoker.
I forced myself to finish the book, thinking surely the story will begin soon, surely it gets better. It didn’t. I’m so disappointed and hate that I wasted a credit on this.

Historia
By the time James Frey enters a drug and alcohol treatment facility, he has so thoroughly ravaged his body that the doctors are shocked he is still alive. Inside the clinic, he is surrounded by patients as troubled as he: a judge, a mobster, a former world-champion boxer, and a fragile former prostitute. To James, their friendship and advice seem stronger and truer than the clinic's droning dogma of How to Recover.

Don’t waste your credit!
Revisado: 04-06-24
In all my years as an Audible member, I don’t think I’ve ever regretted a purchase as much as this one. I’m forcing myself to finish it but I’m only managing it because I’ve fast forwarded through so much.
I’ve have never hated a main character as much as this one. Ever and I’ve been an avid reader since elementary school. . I’m so glad to learn that the author is a liar and made the story up because I don’t think I could sleep at night knowing there is such an entitled idiot walking around in the world.
I can’t imagine that something so poorly written would have ever been published if it had been presented as fiction. Honestly, I can’t wrap my head around it being published at all, let alone promoted by Oprah.
The performer isn’t bad. That is literally the only good thing I can find to say about this crap novel.
ETA: without the constant repeating, mundane details, and pissing contests, the “story” would probably be 2 hours tops.

Def recommend
Revisado: 12-28-23
The story has several twists but is still easy to follow. Extremely well written. It gave me the I-Have-To-Know-What-Happens-Next! without the Huh? followed by rewinding that some stories with multiple character lines and plot twists can cause.
The performance I gave it 4 stars because while I didn’t love it, I do have to admit it was excellent. The main character’s voice is like nails on a chalkboard but honestly, I can imagine the kid sounding exactly like that. I do have to say, this narrator is second only to Jim Dale in his female voice performance. The worst for me overall is always male to female and female to male but he killed it.
Great story, absolutely excellent writing, and fabulous performance. Give it a listen! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. 😊

Historia
The Girl of Sugar Beach is the most watched documentary in television history - a riveting, true-life mystery that unfolds over 12 weeks and centers on a fascinating question: Did Grace Sebold murder her boyfriend, Julian, while on a Spring Break vacation, or is she a victim of circumstance and poor police work? Grace has spent the last 10 years in a St. Lucian prison, and reaches out to filmmaker Sidney Ryan in a last, desperate attempt to prove her innocence. As Sidney begins researching, she uncovers issues that were all overlooked during the original investigation.

GASP!!!
Revisado: 12-15-23
I'm 99% sure, out of literally hundreds of thrillers, this is the very first time I have encountered an ending like this one!
Lots of twists, most that I didn't see coming. I honestly didn't know "who dun it" - until I did! WOW
I would have given the performance 5 stars if not for the female narrator trying to do a male Jamaican accent. Some of her other male voices were also cringy. Also, why do performers think "yell" is a character voice? Other than that, she really is good and I definitely won't walk away when I see her name. I am ridiculously picky when it comes to voices in my ear.
Get this one. So good.

It took me a few chapters to figure out what was going on - without giving it away, I mean how the story jumped around - but once I did, I couldn't put it down. FABULOUS twist!
Performance by both narrators is above par.
I most definitely recommend this one. My first by this author and I will be looking for more.

I almost didn’t finish this book because of the narrator’s voice for Ellie. I pushed thru though because the other voices (except Gorge) wok and some were even good.
The story could have been developed more bit it’s a decent listen.
