Okay story, but bad virtual voice
Revisado: 11-04-24
The worst thing about the book was the virtual voice which really detracted from the story. But the story itself was a little simplistic. It started well. I felt like I cared for the main character from the opening. It set up a good opening that made me wonder how the character got there and want him to succeed. The main character was an interesting mix of background and problems that I will not get into because of spoilers. The opening even overcame the bad virtual voice. Then this very non-magical character got shifted into a very magical world and the book started to fall apart. There was no tension or even acknowledgement of this. Suddenly there were walking dead people and angels and other things and he was just like ok. Then the story moved forward with no reason for him to be in it (But that story happening around him was not that bad). I was kind of hoping that it would be revealed that he was in a delusional fantasy the whole time because he had disassociated from his actual life.

wonderful short story collection
Revisado: 04-11-24
The stories in this book were not always comfortable. But that is not always the point. What they are is imaginative and really good. For me, I was very happy that I listened to every story in this book. It is more than worth the time.

Solid addition to the series
Revisado: 04-11-24
This book was enjoyable and filled a need for good entertainment just kind of like comfort food. The only reason I gave the Performance a 4 was that I missed the previous reader from the other books who had a thicker southern accent that made me laugh. This book is a touch of urban fantasy, a little local history (some of it even real), and a touch of mystery/horror just as you would expect from one of Gail Z. Martin's books. So if that is what you are longing for, grab yourself a glass of sweet tea and settle in for a good time.

okay but not the best
Revisado: 01-17-24
i have read or listened to almost all of this authors books both in this and her other publishing name. they have all been good or even excellent. this is the first book by this author that I can say I did not like. it was really just a copy of other books in this genre and did not add much to help it stand out. three characters and story were flat which is unusual for the author. in the end, the book just seemed rushed. I hate to say anything bad about the readers performance. it is not easy to to do. but I almost returned this on the voices alone.

Nice combination of real world and urban fantasy
Revisado: 10-19-23
The book was excellent all around. The book is fun. It has good world building. It has (main and side) characters that are easy to like. I has already been introduce to the characters from another series. I had not been able to find this series on Amazon (well they were there, I think, but the listings were confusing). So I was excited to find these here at audible. I am glad that I waited, because Therese Plummer reading this book series in a southern accent was magical in itself. I was shocked when I first started listen. I was not ready for a woman to start talking to me in a southern drawl. Then I started laughing so hard I had to pull over. You need to be ready for it. But it honestly could not have been more perfect and it added to the excellent book.

this is a great series. the narrator does an amazing job. I was concerned with one story but switching character focus. but it works very well. my only complaint (not a real one) is that they were short and I wanted more.

Historia
Imagine your least favorite class from school. The one you hate showing up to because you can’t stand the teacher - and maybe the feeling is mutual, even though they can’t admit it. You hate the subject, and you’re miserable the entire period, every day, every second. None of your friends are there, and even if they are, you can’t hang with them. You just sit and do your work. No talking. No bathroom breaks. Now, imagine that the class has several aggressively strict teachers, and those teachers have superpowers. In fact, they’re the most powerful people on the planet.

overall the story was good
Revisado: 06-04-21
The story was good and had a nice flow. My only problem was with the narration. The individual narrators were fine. But because they read full chapters, the same character was voiced differently which made listening confusing at times.
