If you're not woke you will not enjoy this book
Revisado: 03-08-25
The story idea had so much potential and I would have enjoyed it so much had it not been for all the drinking, drugs, illicit sex, cheating and lying. The heroine was not much of a heroine. She was so shallow. Why was there a need to trash Donald Trump so much when the story was in Britain? I normally really like Post Apocalyptic stories but this one was pretty lame. There were so many unrealistic scenarios in this story too - killer sea gulls. Really? The last person on earth would not have done most of the things this character did or settle in the place she decided to live.

When the end of the world arrived, it came not with a bang, as most expected, but with more of a "pfft" instead. Humanity has been torn asunder and brought to the edge of total annihilation in less than an hour. For those who died, it was a quick death, so fast that their brains didn't have time to process the pain signals from their nerves. For those who survived, the true horror is about to begin as they struggle to not only stay alive, but come to grips with the shocking realization about what - and who - was responsible.

It’s original and pretty entertaining. It’s worth the credit.
Revisado: 06-29-24
I like this genre and have read this author’s work before. He’s a good writer. I don’t care for him as a narrator tho and wish he had gotten someone to read the books for him. There are a lot of things I would have done differently and some contradictory things that came up in the adventures. I appreciate that the author doesn’t use much profanity. It’s hard to find in this genre and I liked being able to listens without hearing filth. I loved that so much of the book revolved around the submarine. The author isn’t afraid to kill off a main character without taking them all and I liked that too. The heroes weren’t super heroes and made mistakes too, which I liked. Overall, a good use of a credit in my opinion.

Wow. Just wow. The characters were amazing. The setting was amazing. I can usually guess what is going to happen next in most stories but this one surprised me. Amazing story.

It was so bad. Unimaginative & Ridiculous.
Revisado: 02-09-24
I tried. I got about half way through. The situations these characters found themselves in and their responses were absolutely ridiculous. I wanted badly to like the story and the characters and I kept thinking it just had to get better but it never did. A little girl with a special power to sense danger and adults that did not have a bit of sense. It was so so bad. I finally gave up.

As London is submerged below flood waters, a woman gives birth to her first child, Z. Days later, she and her baby are forced to leave their home in search of safety. They head north through a newly dangerous country seeking refuge from place to place, shelter to shelter, to a desolate island and back again. The story traces fear and wonder, as the baby's small fists grasp at the first colors he sees, as he grows and stretches, thriving and content against all the odds.

Just too weird
Revisado: 02-03-24
I was pretty disappointed. I did not like that characters were only named by their first initial. I did not like the way R couldn’t step up and be a husband and father when he was needed, leaving his wife and baby to fend for themselves. I didn’t like the references to Bible passages, taken so out of context and used seemingly randomly at times. I love disaster stories and disruption refugee stories but this one was just too weird for me. The narrator was descent though.

Ridiculous scenarios and many contradictions
Revisado: 01-19-24
I love this genre and I like most of the books I read in this genre, but some are just too far out and unbelievable for me to enjoy. This was one of those. The filthy language and flippant attitude of Mike, even when he’s in life threatening situations made the book really unbearable at times.

Interesting
Revisado: 10-28-23
This book was entertaining and imaginative with some interesting characters. Many of the situations the characters found themselves in were too far out there to be believable even for fiction. Overall, it was a decent read. I was pretty aggravated that even the robots used curse words. It would have been a better book without the profanity.

It had potential but fell short
Revisado: 10-27-23
I really liked a lot of the characters. I even liked the overall story idea, but so much of it did not make a lot of sense. People had reactions and emotions that were not realistic at all for the situations. I hated the end so much. The ending definitely made me sorry I’d invested the time in this book.

Historia
Cotton Crossing was a dead end, but not for Ginny Mills. She's just marking time, getting experience in the county library system, before moving back to a decent urban environment. Then the phones stop working. Lee Quartine knows there's no way the pretty girl at the library will even look at him. Especially since he can't open his mouth. He knows he's a hick, but when the power starts going out and the woods are full of strange creatures, it's good to have someone around who can build a fire. And kill.

I enjoyed the book. The story was an entertaining one and I loved the characters. The narrator was good with a pleasant voice and she did southern accents nicely. I would have enjoyed it all more without the profanity.
