Historia
Meet Charlie; unfulfilled and perimenopausal, Charlie’s suburban life is a far cry from the Manhattan glamour she once dreamed of. Her husband is incapable of talking about anything other than his latest Ironman challenge, her sex life consists of fictional encounters with Hollywood stars, her kids need constant man-management, and to make things worse, her optician has just prescribed her reading glasses. Oh, and she can’t stop crying at TV adverts… In the hope of re-discovering her sense of self, Charlie begins writing a list: 45 things to do before she’s 45.

Funny and honest
Revisado: 03-23-25
The main character is somewhat relatable. A little more extreme and exaggerated but the situations make you laugh and cringe and it is a fun listen for anyone feeling the youthful years slipping by faster than they are comfortable with.

An unhealthy friendship takes a sinister turn. Almost everyone has a friend whom they barely tolerate. It’s that person whose jokes are always annoying, who tries to butt in on nights out, or who keeps coming over unannounced. For Martha, that friend is her new neighbor, Jennie.

A Different Twist on a Overdone Theme
Revisado: 02-27-25
I loved it. I wasn’t sure I would, but I gave it a go. I don’t want to give anything away but I like that rather than anyone being the hero or the villain, the author portrays the characters as human. I think many people have done things or thought things that they would be embarrassed to admit aloud or feel awkward in social situations. It is those portions of the book that made me laugh out loud or cringe with empathetic horror. Well done. The only reason I gave it less than 5 stars was because of the ending. It was still good, but I wanted more!!

I have listened to quite a few and I haven’t been disappointed yet. Maybe I am biased because I am originally from Michigan, but it only makes sense that such talent would reside there! Can’t wait for the next book!

A little too…I don't know
Revisado: 10-05-24
It was simple and cheesy, in my opinion. I hate giving bad book reviews because…to each his own, but I needed to give an opinion in this case. As for the performance, the voices didn't seem to match the characters…again, in my opinion.

Very powerful if you think about it…
Revisado: 07-03-24
Even from the beginning I thought it was good. I usually make it a point not to read the synopsis because there have been times I have passed up good books because it just didn't sound that good. Another benefit of diving in blindfolded is that you don't have any real expectations and when a book is good it just catches you off guard. It has some strong and important messages for black women specifically, but as a woman of mixed race, it is a strong message for any person who has ever felt different or unsure.
Spoilers——————————————————-——————————————
Before submitting this review, I caught sight of a couple 3 star and read them out of curiosity. Yes, this story is bizarre if you read it without noting the symbolism. The creature isn't an actual creature but traits passed down through generations that make a person who he or she is at the core. People often try to fit in or please others by hiding bits of themselves that they feel wont be accepted by their peers or general public. This story is a thriller, but it is also one of self-discovery. Emily is confronted by who she is and is forced to make a choice as to who she wants to be. Does she want to live a full and authentic life, or does she want to die? Because by denying who she is, she isn't truly living.

Historia
Four brand-new horror novellas all about books, stories, manuscripts—the written word has never had sharper teeth. In The Skin of Her Teeth, a cursed novel drives people to their deaths. A delivery job turns deadly in The Dark Brothers' Last Ride. In This Book Belongs to Olo, a lonely child has dangerous control over an usual pop-up book. A choose-your-own adventure game spirals into an uncanny reality in The Story. Full of creepy suspense, these collected novellas are perfect for fans of Paul Tremblay, Stephen King, and Joe Hill.

It was an entertaining story. I usually like thrillers with a bit more suspense. It was clear throughout the book who the perpetrator was. There was still the unknown of what would happen next, but I personally like to be suspicious of more than one character.

She has done it again!
Revisado: 03-16-24
Love every book this author writes. She does a great job at portraying the feeling of her characters. Always strong female leads dealing with impossible situations in the best way they can. Showing some of the most horrible examples of what humans can be capable of while also showing how those unthinkable situations can bring out bravery, selflessness, ingenuity, and generosity. I think every generation must have a moment in time where you wake up to the reality that not every person shares the same values; even those that are seemingly common sense. There are monsters in the world, but also a lot of good.

Nice and simple read
Revisado: 02-28-24
I found this audiobook in the Thriller section. It had a decent storyline, but the character development and depth of the entire story made it seem like more of a YA selection. One of the characters, in the beginning, seemed to be of some significance. He was mentioned a few times throughout the story but in the end, he was basically forgotten. It was a bit odd. I feel that in the end all characters and storylines should have a definite ending or, at the very least, a clear purpose.

I can’t even listen
Revisado: 02-08-24
I can’t even finish an entire book. I tried to forget it was read by “Virtual Voice” but that is impossible. I guess it has been improved somewhat, but it will never replace an actual human narrator. Maybe it could work on self-help or instruction-type books, but so much is lost in the relaying of the story because AI doesn't understand feelings or sarcasm. “Brain matter was everywhere,” would be said in the same tone as “I picked up a loaf of bread.”
