Historia
In May 1940, Nazi Germany was master of continental Europe. The only European power still standing was Great Britain - and the all-conquering German armed forces stood poised to cross the Channel. Following the destruction of the RAF fighter forces, the sweeping of the Channel of mines, and the wearing down of the Royal Naval defenders, two German army groups were set to storm the beaches of southern England.

Singular
Revisado: 05-08-23
Allow me to summarize the book.... If another historian wrote something, it is probably wrong. And if a WWII leader did it, it was almost certainly stupid. If only Forcyzk had been there, many many "ridiculous" errors could have been avoided.
The author devotes a good deal of time to statistics, and I might have given it 2 stars since I will assume those are accurate. However the author lost even this when his primary conclusion is that Churchill made a major strategic mistake by standing up to Hitler instead of cutting a deal with him. Because.... you know.... nothing bad could have come out of that.

Great storyline, but needs an editor
Revisado: 12-15-22
Okay, so I love the premise, but there are some dialog issues and anachronisms that kept taking me out of the story, and I am not sure listening to later books is worth it. For example, how would a 15 year old girl who has, presumably, since she lives in Pennsylvania come up with a simile about a riptide in the ocean (maybe the sea)? I also struggled with the idea that wolves would seek revenge. I think I know what the author was trying to do, but it was just off.

An apologia
Revisado: 07-22-21
Well written enough to get a higher rating, the immense bias of the author pulls it down. He completely ignores some events, and in virtually every other case he gives the Borgia's the benefit of every excuse. For example, he says we must not believe that the events mentioned in Pope Pius II's letter occurred. First because we haven't heard of anything like them from Roderigo Borgia before, and second, because they are so outlandish they could not have occurred at all. And yet Pius, who lived in that time and knew what was outlandish, and who knew and liked Borgia, believed them enough to pen the letter. Or, as another example, when Roderigo becomes Pope and packs the College of Cardinals with 12 new members so that he can get his way on things he wants done, it is not a sign of corruption but rather of intelligence. Although I suppose this sort of view should be expected of a man who describes Vlad the Impaler as a good ruler, if perhaps a bit severe.

I felt certain that this book had to be better than the 3rd volume of the series with its "zombies on the moon." I was wrong. No worse, perhaps, but no better. It's my fault for listening.

Historia
Norman Mailer's Pulitzer Prize-winning and unforgettable classic about convicted killer Gary Gilmore now in audio. Arguably the greatest book from America's most heroically ambitious writer, The Executioner's Song follows the short, blighted life of Gary Gilmore who became famous after he robbed two men in 1976 and killed them in cold blood. After being tried and convicted, he immediately insisted on being executed for his crime. To do so, he fought a system that seemed intent on keeping him alive long after it had sentenced him to death.

All about lawyers and publicists
Revisado: 12-23-20
Only at the end do we discover that the author wrote it on contact with the main subject; which is not Gilmore or his victims. Mailer also lets his bias intude constantly. This book cannot hold a candle to "In Cold Blood."

Historia
A groundbreaking account of the rise of North Korea’s Kim Jong Un—from his nuclear ambitions to his summits with President Donald J. Trump—by a leading American expert. From the beginning of Kim's reign, former CIA analyst Jung Pak has been at the forefront of shaping US policy on North Korea and providing strategic assessments for leadership at the highest levels in the government. Now, in this masterly book, she traces and explains Kim's ascent on the world stage.

Revisado: 05-04-20
I am by no means an expert on North Korea, but there was very little here that I had not heard before. Moreover some subjects are skipped entirely. For example, the potential that South Korea or Japan might move to acquire nuclear weapons is given (by my count) a grand total of one sentence, while the potential impact this might have on China's relationship with Kim is ignored completely. Finally, the author mentions analytical bias over and over again, but succumbs to it herself in her clear dislike of Trump and inability to separate out these sentiments when discussing recent events.

Jane’s days at a Midwest insurance company are perfectly ordinary. She blends in well, unremarkably pretty in her floral-print dresses and extra efficient at her low-level job. She’s just the kind of woman middle manager Steven Hepsworth likes - meek, insecure, and willing to defer to a man. No one has any idea who Jane really is. Least of all Steven. But plain Jane is hiding something. And Steven’s bringing out the worst in her.

Needs a new performer
Revisado: 06-17-18
I struggled a bit with this book. The performer struggled with pronounciation and there were awkward gaps. There were also some problems with grammar, but I am not sure if those were based on the performance or the author.
The material was accurate, but the author's writing style seemed a bit immature.
