Historia
Fourteen-year-old Mona isn't like the wizards charged with defending the city. She can't control lightning or speak to water. Her familiar is a sourdough starter, and her magic only works on bread. She has a comfortable life in her aunt's bakery making gingerbread men dance. But Mona's life is turned upside down when she finds a dead body on the bakery floor. An assassin is stalking the streets of Mona's city, preying on magic folk, and it appears that Mona is his next target. And in an embattled city suddenly bereft of wizards, the assassin may be the least of Mona's worries.

As one of the music world’s most iconic artists and the cofounder of the organizations ONE and (RED), Bono’s career has been written about extensively. But in Surrender, it’s Bono who picks up the pen, writing for the first time about his remarkable life and those he has shared it with. In his unique voice, Bono takes us from his early days growing up in Dublin, including the sudden loss of his mother when he was fourteen, to U2’s unlikely journey to become one of the world’s most influential rock bands, to his more than twenty years of activism.

Thoroughly entertaining
Revisado: 06-09-23
As a U2 fan since 1981, I have to say that I’m not an impartial reviewer. I can’t imagine reading this book. It has to be listened to with all the music contained in this audio version. Little bits of famous songs peppered through the stories of Bono’s life, his life with U2, and his humanitarian efforts, is enormously entertaining. Especially if you are a U2 fan.

Published K-Pop Fan Fiction
Revisado: 09-15-22
I realized about half way through this book, that I was actually listening to published K-Pop fan fic! I don’t know why it took me so long for this realization. It’s also not a bad thing. This was a fun book, that actually had bigger points about how your job should not define you, and you should do what you love, and more. Philippa Soo’s narration was wonderful. I also really looked forward to listening to it, because it was a fun escape.

Historia
Clementine Ford is a person who has loved deeply, strangely and with curiosity. She is fascinated by love and how it makes its home in our hearts and believes that the way we continue to surrender ourselves to love is an act of great faith and bravery. This tender and lyrical memoir explores love in its many forms, through Clementine's own experiences. With clear eyes and an open heart, she writes about losing her adored mother far too young, about the pain and confusion of first love - both platonic and romantic - and the joy and heartache of adult love.

In the absolutely packed Act II, the dark fantasy resumes and the Sandman expands into the French Revolution, ancient Rome, 19th-century San Francisco, eighth-century Baghdad, and beyond. New and familiar characters abound, voiced by a bright mix of performers, including Kat Dennings, Regé-Jean Page, Emma Corrin, Michael Sheen, Kristen Schaal, Brian Cox, John Lithgow, Jeffrey Wright, and so many more, including fan-favorite narrators Simon Vance and Ray Porter.

Revisado: 03-12-22
I loved this performance of The Sandman. The voice actors are perfection and the stories are riveting, as is per usual from Neil Gaiman. The 12 hours goes by too fast! This and Act 1 is something I will listen to again and again, it’s that good.

Historia
Poet Ocean Vuong’s debut novel is a shattering portrait of a family, a first love, and the redemptive power of storytelling. On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous is a letter from a son to a mother who cannot read. Written when the speaker, Little Dog, is in his late 20s, the letter unearths a family’s history that began before he was born - a history whose epicenter is rooted in Vietnam - and serves as a doorway into parts of his life his mother has never known, all of it leading to an unforgettable revelation.

On Earth This Book is Briefly Gorgeous
Revisado: 02-01-22
Overall this book is depressing and mostly terribly over written. There are parts that are beautiful, and that is why I gave it three stars instead of two.
It is read as if every line is supposed to be a masterpiece and have heavy meaning, probably, because it is also written that way. It rarely achieves that goal. About two thirds of the way through the book, I yelled, “Enough!” And turned it off. Not being one to give up on a book, I started listening again about a week later, hoping it might get better and resolve well. It did not redeem itself.
