Not a bad Zombie Story
Revisado: 02-18-25
I was given this Audiobook in exchange for my review. I never thought I would say that but here I am. I would never give a fluffed review. That being said I really enjoyed this book. It played out like an episode of The Walking Dead or similar Zombie show without knowing all the characters. It is a short book I listened to it over 3 hours. The Author writes in a style that is informative, descriptive and easy to follow. The narrator is fantastic I think she could read anything and keep me interested.

Historia
New York City in 1978 is a dirty, dangerous place to live - and die. Joey Peacock knows this as well as anybody - he has spent the last forty years as an adolescent vampire, perfecting the routine he now enjoys: womanizing in punk clubs and discotheques, feeding by night, and sleeping by day with others of his kind in the macabre labyrinth under the city's sidewalks.

Holy Smokes what a ride!!!
Revisado: 02-15-24
Whoa what a great book and what an ending. I had read Christopher Buehlman's book "Those across the river" and I thought it was good not great but good enough to buy this book. That was 2 years ago. I do not remember ever reading a Vampire book and that might be the reason I delayed this read so long. I must apologize to the Author and to myself for depriving myself of such a good book. I do not know how this book has not been picked up to be a movie.
Ok this is set in the 70's is is about vampires and is gritty and dim and everything you would want in a horror novel. I do not want to go into the plot because the twist at the end was so good. I am still sitting here shocked.
I cant tell you you will love this book as much as I did but I can tell you it is worth the read.
And the Author's narration is so gooooood!!!

Historia
Working at the local processing plant, Marcos is in the business of slaughtering humans - though no one calls them that anymore. His wife has left him, his father is sinking into dementia, and Marcos tries not to think too hard about how he makes a living. After all, it happened so quickly. First, it was reported that an infectious virus has made all animal meat poisonous to humans. Then governments initiated the "Transition". Now, eating human meat - "special meat" - is legal. Marcos tries to stick to numbers, consignments, processing.

Whoa What a Book!!!!
Revisado: 02-01-24
I have owned this book for over a year and due to mixed reviews I kept putting it off. I think the mixed reviews are from people who want this to be a Horror novel and it is not a Horror Novel. This Novel is pure Dystopian it is very dark, bleak, hopeless, and a perfect social commentary on how we are as a society.
The story is set in the near future where Humankind has moved on from eating animals due to a virus and now breed other Humans for meat. It follows one mans life who is in the business of slaughtering and how his life has fallen to pieces.
The book was originally written in Spanish and the translation is beautiful. I do not give 5 star reviews to just any books but this one deserves it.
P.S. the ending is brutal and perfect.

Solid fun story very good narration
Revisado: 01-29-24
1st Ever Koontz book and I was pleasantly surprised.
This was a super fun book. Does it have its faults yes is it 80's Cliché yes is it fun yes and sometimes that is all that matters with a book. Everything I read does not have to be a Award winning novel. Sometimes I just wat to be entertained.
I have done very few creature feature books most of my books that have horror elements lean towards supernatural. The Creature in this book if very good very unique and at time very horrifying. The tie in with Einstein and creature being created in the same lab is a great.
One problem I have is Vince I feel this character should have been saved for a sequel you did not need two villain's in this novel it took away from the sheer uniqueness and dread that the Outsider already provided.
I would recommend this book 100% almost a 5 Star read.

A story of a father and his son...
Revisado: 12-13-23
A very strong book. It was not as good as Old Country for old men but this 2007 Pulitzer Prize winner did not disappoint.
Only one word can describe this book "Bleak". In a post-apocalyptic world a man and his child wander down a road with little to no hope of survival. I feel that the the fact that the man and the child had no names was perfect for this story. As a parent I felt that the dialog between a father and his child was perfect.
The ending is heart breaking and hopeful at the same time. I hope I am carrying the fire....

It’s been a decade since Trumanell Branson disappeared, leaving only a bloody handprint behind. Her pretty face still hangs like a watchful queen on the posters on the walls of the town’s Baptist church, the police station, and in the high school. They all promise the same thing: We will find you. Meanwhile, Tru's brother, Wyatt, lives as a pariah in the desolation of the old family house, cleared of wrongdoing by the police but tried and sentenced in the court of public opinion and in a new documentary about the crime.

Wow Texas Gothic!!
Revisado: 12-11-23
No idea what this book was going to be about when I walked into it. This book has easily moved into my top 10 for the year. I picked this book because I wanted something with a Texas background and was not prepared for how beautiful the prose was. I was memorized chapter after chapter with the plot, the dialog, the setting, the eerie atmosphere. If Southern Gothic is a Genre I would like to submit this as Texas Gothic. A Ghost story without Ghosts that was Haunting as it was entertaining. I do not want to go into the actual story because I think this in one that is best done blind or maybe with one eye.

Welcome to Derry, Maine. It’s a small city, a place as hauntingly familiar as your own hometown. Only in Derry the haunting is real. They were seven teenagers when they first stumbled upon the horror. Now they are grown-up men and women who have gone out into the big world to gain success and happiness. But the promise they made 28 years ago calls them reunite in the same place where, as teenagers, they battled an evil creature that preyed on the city’s children.

Perfect Read for October
Revisado: 10-31-23
“IT” has long been a book that has captured my fascination but the sheer length of the book kept it out of my reach. I will admit without the Audiobook version of this I would have never been able to tackle this book in one month. I am going to try to keep this review as short as possible with as few Spoilers as I can. In my opinion this book and The Stand are equals but are both second to 11/22/63. I am not a great book reviewer but these are my random thoughts on the book.
**Spoilers May Appear Below**
By now we have all seen either the original made for TV Miniseries or the 2 Chapter Movies and the most famous scene may be the opening scene from both. A simple paper boat floating down the road into the gutter. You have not really had the best version of this until you read the words Stephen King puts on paper. Perfect opening scene to set up the fear that is portrayed in this book and introduce the villain Pennywise the Clown. “We all float down here!” Steven Weber is the narrator of this book and when he transforms into Pennywise it is amazing.
“The terror, which would not end for another 28 years-if it ever did end-began, so far as I know or can tell, with a boat made from a sheet of newspaper floating down a gutter swollen with rain.”
― Stephen King, It
The Interludes
The Interludes in this book take the form of Mike telling the history of Derry. For fans of the Stephen King Multiverse this may be the best part of the entire book. Derry itself is an evil cursed town. The town is mentioned in several of King's books but this is the book that it is most well known for. It was fun to listen to some of the atrocities that have taken place in Derry. King is heavy on racism and the ability for society to turn a blind eye to the evil happening around it everyday.
“I started after him...and the clown looked back. I saw Its eyes, and all at once I understood who It was."
"Who was it, Don?" Harold Gardner asked softly.
"It was Derry," Don Hagarty said. "It was this town.”
― Stephen King, It
The Losers Club
The Perfect group of heroes as it covers all of us even if the one you relate with is a combination of two or more of the characters. I think deep down every male born in the United States has been in love with a “Beverly Marsh'' growing up. Bill is a fearless leader, Ben AKA Haystack (I relate so much to Ben) is the brains, Richie is the class clown, Eddie is the hypochondriac, Mike is the realist, and Stan is the logical member. The story is really how they conquer their own fears with the help of each other. Whether it be one of the 50’s movie monsters or the monsters that live among them this book is truly the story of them growing up before our eyes on the pages of this book.
“No good friends, no bad friends; only people you want, need to be with. People who build their houses in your heart.”
― Stephen King, It
The Bowers Gang
The true monsters of this story are the gang of kids that torment The Losers Club and their leader is Henry Bowers. I am sure everyone has heard that it takes a village to raise a child if that is the case the Bowers Gang was truly raised by the village of Derry. Henry, Vic, Belch, Patrick, and Moose are evil but they were not born evil; the environment they grew up in made them who they are. Once again Derry and that damn clown that seems to know when it is time to wake up and wreak havoc.
“Magic would not work on Henry. He was too stupid.”
― Stephen King, It
The one scene everyone talks about. I actually did not want to mention the scene but I see so many 1 Star reviews based solely on this scene. Should King have left this part of the book out probably. I personally would not have included it . What I can tell you is that there are parts of this book that are way worse and more graphic than this scene. I felt it was not in line with the story but it was not written in a pornographic manner. Would the book still work without this scene absolutely. Does it ruin the book for me or change my 5 Star rating absolutely not.
“You may be sorry later, but you’ll find them, and once a thing is found it can’t be unfound, can it?”
― Stephen King, It
The ending…well I would never spoil an ending in a review. Some people will hate the ending heck if it had a better ending it may be as good of a book as 11/22/63 (Perfect Ending) Constant Readers will be satisfied with the way the book ends. Not every book needs to finish with the big surprise or the perfect ending. More and More King's books just finished like he ran out of paper….
“See the TURTLE, ain't he keen? All things serve the f*ckin Beam.”
― Stephen King, The Waste Lands
Random Thought from the book.. May 28th 1985 is the day Mike calls all the Adults. My Birthday is May 28th Ka has been calling me to the beam my whole life.
It is Fitting that I Finished this book on October 31st All Hallows' Eve
RIP Haystacks Calhoun August 3, 1934 – December 7, 1989
