Historia
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. But Mark isn't ready to give up yet.

Great Listen (and I never saw the movie)
Revisado: 04-08-25
My biggest reason for getting this book was because Wil Wheaton was the narrator and I love Wil Wheaton. If you're just getting into Sci-fi type of books, give this one a listen. I am fairly certain that the first almost hour of the audiobook, had I read it, would have resulted in me putting it down. IYKYK. Definitely recommend!

Always a bonus when the author narrates!
Revisado: 02-05-25
I've been a follower of Cecilia's since the first time I heard her say "It's me, Cecilia on Svalbard, an island close to the North Pole" in a Tiktok video. When I found out her book was coming out, I immediately placed a hold on it with my library and when I picked it up, I saw that the author narrates it herself! It became part of my 6 year old daughter's bedtime routine to have Cecilia read to us and tell us about life on Svalbard. I also love hearing the proper pronunciations for the places mentioned in her book as well! Definitely worth the listen and if you listen while reading the book, it's an even better experience!

A Story of Trying Times
Revisado: 01-25-25
I am so glad not to have lived in the 1930s. As a mother, I can't even imagine the struggle of having to sell my child to make sure they're taken care of and I can keep a roof over my head...or having to lie about not having a child to get a job. The narrator was great. I laughed, almost cried, had some jaw dropping moments and some outbursts of WHAT?! For me this was a 4.5/5 and I think it's the mom guilt that I have felt many times since becoming a mom that keeps me from giving this a full 5 stars.

Historia
Reluctant to leave her cherished New England hometown after her sister's winter wedding, former journalist Vera Sterling makes a sudden decision. She takes what's left of her severance pay and invests it in real estate ... in one particular drafty colonial home and old timber barn set upon the pretty banks of Addison Cove. In that rough-hewn barn, she discovers a secret treasure left behind by the previous owner, the proprietor of the long-forgotten Christmas Barn gift shop. While restoring her run-down, wood-sided home--its creaking floors, broken banister, and neglected widow's walk--that secret slowly unfolds like a bit of snowflake wonder, crystallizing hopes and dreams for many in this small Connecticut town.

Good Narration for a Good Story
Revisado: 12-12-24
I had a hard time staying in the mood to listen to this. The narrator was good. He didn't do high pitched voices for the female characters but had a good variety of voices for all the characters. I did have to speed up the audio because I wasn't staying connected to the narrator but overall this book was good.

Historia
Nine years ago, Vivienne Jones nursed her broken heart like any young witch would: vodka, weepy music, bubble baths…and a curse on the horrible boyfriend. Sure, Vivi knows she shouldn’t use her magic this way, but with only an “orchard hayride” scented candle on hand, she isn’t worried it will cause him anything more than a bad hair day or two.

Great end to spooky season
Revisado: 11-27-24
I genuinely appreciate that the narrator did not do a Welsh accent for Rhys. She gave life to each character without it being over the top and not having a forced accent for Rhys was great! I especially loved Gwyn's nickname for Rhys (you'll have to read or listen to find that one out) and that someone unexpected also called him that nickname (also not saying who). The story was easy to listen to and follow and I can't wait to listen to the next book in the series!

What did you like most: the question about if sharks eat cake.
What was your fav animal mentioned: raccoons
Why: because he asked if pandas eat cake and we said no and pandas eat bamboo.
Is there anything else you want to say about the book that other kids might like to know: kids eat cake and animals do joy rat cake.

Felt a Disconnect with Narrator
Revisado: 08-10-23
I enjoyed the storyline but felt a disconnect with the narrator. His voice is soothing and calming but for me it didn’t match DCI Ryan. I kept listening because I did want to see how this ended but I feel like I missed a lot because of the disconnect I had with the narrator. Again, his voice is wonderful but to me it made me think Ryan was older than he is supposed to be so when the attraction started between him and Anna it felt weird to listen to.

Historia
If Avery Chambers can’t fix you in 10 sessions, she won’t take you on as a client. Her successes are phenomenal—she helps people overcome everything from domineering parents to assault—and almost absorbs the emptiness she sometimes feels since her husband’s death. Marissa and Mathew Bishop seem like the golden couple—until Marissa cheats. She wants to repair things, both because she loves her husband and for the sake of their eight-year-old son. After a friend forwards an article about Avery, Marissa takes a chance on this maverick therapist.

Great story with twists I didn’t see coming!
Revisado: 06-16-22
No spoilers here. Avery is a former psychologist turned counselor and is working with clients in her unorthodox 10 session program. Marissa and Matthew come to see her and the first bomb drops.
Here’s where this gets the 4 star rating for me. Maybe it would be 5 stars all day if I had read the book but the story alternates between Avery and Marissa. That’s great except the Avery chapters are her talking in the first person by one narrator and Marissa is spoken in the third person by another narrator. That threw me off and, like I said, may not have bothered me if I had read the book instead of listening to it but it just didn’t make sense to me why they wrote it like that. Personally if your going to have a second narrator and announce Avery or Marissa at the beginning of each chapter then it should all be written in first person. Just a thought.

Twists and Turns
Revisado: 03-25-22
There were times when I was yelling at Margot in my head and calling her crazy! Lines started getting connected but I really didn’t see that plot twist coming!
It is short chapters, engaging dialogue, and wonderful characters. One of the few narrators that didn’t make me cringe when doing the opposite sex voices.

Interesting Story, Can’t Wait For The Movie
Revisado: 11-09-21
Performance brought the overall rating down because when the narrator was speaking the narration of the book (meaning not character dialogue), her tone changed and it became a blend of the two man characters. The story seemed a little rushed at the end. A lot happened with a sort of abrupt ending. I don’t know if this is meant to be a series or not but there were parts that seemed to be missing information. Time seemed to shift but didn’t really make sense. One sentence you were on this day and the next sentence, not chapter, you were months away. I did like the story and I’ll watch the Netflix movie when it comes out this week.
