Historia
When the car sailed over the embankment carrying the four members of the pulpit committee, Mildred Budge called out, “Jesus saves.” The others heard it, but they were also experiencing their own quick flashes of insight. Liz, a serial widow, felt unsatisfied with her life. She wanted more. Sailing toward her death, she still did. Sam, who had turned the steering wheel that had sent them over the embankment, was looking forward to the crash. He wanted to feel it—the hard slam of collision. His hands held the wheel tightly, bracing for it. Jake smiled. He resisted holding Mildred’s ...

Historia
Laugh-out-loud funny and deeply touching, Beth Hoffman's sparkling debut is, as Kristin Hannah says, "packed full of Southern charm, strong women, wacky humor, and good old-fashioned heart." It is a novel that explores the indomitable strengths of female friendship and gives us the story of a young girl who loses one mother and finds many others.

Why did I waste a credit on this awful book????
Revisado: 07-28-21
I couldn't get into this book a first. I had read reviews that seemed positive and I has enjoyed two other books by this author, so I was predisposed to like this book. But.. it was just too weird.... I wish I could remove it permanently from my library and from my mind. ugh....

Paint your toes. Pick up the wrong coffee and bagel order. Drive from Brooklyn to Jersey in traffic so slow you want to tear your hair out. It’s amazing all the useless things I can accomplish while on hold for three hours with customer service. Three hours when I should be getting the Date-in-a-Box website ready to launch at the big business expo in a few days. Except my shiny new website is glitching, and my inner rage-monster is ready to scorch some earth...when he finally picks up. Not the robot voice I expected but a real live human named Kal.

Cute
Revisado: 07-28-21
Cute story. Entertaining presentation. Why the bad language? It was offensive. Usually I can ignore the language but I was enjoying the story line when shock. shock...all of the sudden her comes the foul language. Sadly writers today must think its required to include garbage language to be entertaining. Or is it the publishers?

Unexpectedly enjoyed this book
Revisado: 04-11-21
I don't generally read fantasy type books, but this one looked interesting, so I gave it a go. I love the setting and the author did a great job building characters that I really came to care about. The magical elements are not sinister in nature but more of the "good witch" ilk. The story is a bit more sophicated than the usual "nice" stories I enjoy. Both my husband and I really enjoyed this book and are looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

Historia
Sir John Penlyon is planning to spend Christmas at his estate with his niece and his friend Danby, the closest thing he has to family since disowning his daughter years ago. (She eloped with the parson, who was, of course, penniless.) Danby suggests that at Christmastime the estate needs the presence of small children, and offers to find some - the “hirelings” - despite Sir John’s skepticism. Three children duly arrive, and the youngest, precocious four year-old Moppet, quickly endears herself to Sir John.
