Historia
Maria Bamford is a comedian’s comedian (an outsider among outsiders) and has forever fought to find a place to belong. From struggling with an eating disorder as a child of the 1980s, to navigating a career in the arts (and medical debt and psychiatric institutionalization), she has tried just about every method possible to not only be a part of the world, but to want to be a part of it. In Bamford’s “trademark blend of disarming intimacy and dark whimsy” (Publishers Weekly), Sure, I’ll Join Your Cult brings us on a quest to participate in something.

Not about cults - just wierd nonsense.
Revisado: 01-29-24
Do not read this if you are not already a fan of the author. Its not about cults or anything remotely related to cults.
Cults is just a forced theme where the author includes her family as one, and every 12 step program she has attended.
The at times screaming narration and annoying sound effects made book the worst book i ever forced myself to finish (for a bookclub).
If you are already a fan of the author and her style Im sure you'll love it, but its not for everyone, maybe not even most.

Historia
Continuous improvement, understanding complex systems, and promoting innovation are all part of the landscape of learning challenges today's companies face. Amy Edmondson shows that organizations thrive, or fail to thrive, based on how well the small groups within those organizations work. In most organizations, the work that produces value for customers is carried out by teams, and increasingly, by flexible team-like entities.

The book is not without valuable information, but it is presenter in such an uninspiring way.
The book is probably better used as reference material than as an audio book.

Historia
Plenty of experts argue that anyone who wants to develop a skill, play an instrument, or lead their field should start early, focus intensely, and rack up as many hours of deliberate practice as possible. But a closer look at research on the world’s top performers shows that early specialization is the exception, not the rule. David Epstein examined the world’s most successful athletes, artists, musicians, inventors, forecasters and scientists. He discovered that in most fields—especially those that are complex and unpredictable—generalists, not specialists, are primed to excel.

Great book but too long by half.
Revisado: 06-24-21
thought provoking and inspiring but efter the first half its feels much like repetition of the same story over and over again with little to no variation. Still, the point the book makes is great and I still recommend it.

Hot garbage filled with anecdotal "research"
Revisado: 11-17-20
Maybe the worst self help book I've read, there are so many great books on how to improve out there, this is not one of them.
The author constantly talks about how he transformed his life through the compound effect and how it really works and yeah, it might work for him, it might even be a good principle, but he also has a habit of making things up to prove his point.
Example:
"imagine two regular guys, Steve and Brad, Steve reads a little every day, Brad makes a batch of muffins. Over times these behaviors ripple through their lives to a year from now, where Steve is inspired by everything he reads, works harder and is then promoted. Brad has now developed a full blown sugar addiction which has a negative effect on his performance at work, his boss yells at him at Brad takes that bitterness home to his wife who now resents him and is looking to leave him..."
This is a real (if summarized) example from the book. The author doesn't even seem to realize how dumb it makes him look by presenting his methods in this way. To illustrate my point I will now make up my own story, here we go:
"The books that Steve read started out innocently with German history, but it has now gotten completely out of hand and he is now the leader of a neo-nazi network. Brad has become so good at baking muffins that he is now one of the most prominent bakers in the country and has his own baking channel. His marriage has never been better!"
Check out any number of better books, Cal Newport is a personal favorite, he actually does research to form his conclusions.

Historia
Popular blogger Cal Newport reveals the new key to achieving success and true meaning in professional life: the ability to master distraction. Many modern knowledge workers now spend most of their brain power battling distraction and interruption, whether because of the incessant pinging of devices, noisy open-plan offices or the difficulty of deciding what deserves their attention the most. When Cal Newport coined the term deep work on his popular blog, Study Hacks, in 2012, he found the concept quickly hit a nerve.

Narrated by Emmy Award–winning actor Martin Sheen, The Home Front: Life in America During World War II takes listeners into the lives of Americans at home—part of the Greatest Generation—who supported the war effort and sustained the country during wartime. The war brought immediate, life-changing shifts: the rationing of meat, dairy products, and sugar; an explosion of war-related jobs; and, despite mixed signals, a greater role for women working outside the home.

Good listen but needs an editor. This show was obviosly produced for radio. They keep reintroducing the same people over and over and inform you of the copyrights every 30 min or so. Not what i want from a purchased audiobook.
