They are coming. The countdown has begun. First visible only as blips on a telescope image, the discovery of objects approaching from Jupiter's orbit immediately sets humanity on edge. NASA doesn't even bother to deny the alien ships' existence. The popular Astral space app (broadcasting from the far side of the moon and accessible by anyone with Internet) has already shown the populace what is coming.

Bad characters, lame story
Revisado: 11-11-23
There isn't a single good character in this story that the reader can empathise with. I could understand the author's need to create growth within their characters, but if there is growth, it's very thin. Theres times when I find myself just hoping the characters will die because they are so stupid. The main character is a prepper because of a drug induced vision... a weak premise. The story is about how a family of 1%'s fare before the invasion, as there really is not much of an invasion. 99% of the book is about a pre invasion, so the title seems to not fit the real meat of the story.

Historia
The year is 1348. Thomas, a disgraced knight, has found a young girl alone in a dead Norman village. An orphan of the Black Death, and an almost unnerving picture of innocence, she tells Thomas that plague is only part of a larger cataclysm - that the fallen angels under Lucifer are rising in a second war on heaven, and that the world of men has fallen behind the lines of conflict. Is it delirium or is it faith? She believes she has seen the angels of God. She believes the righteous dead speak to her in dreams. And now she has convinced the faithless Thomas to shepherd her across a depraved landscape to Avignon.

Just, wow!
Revisado: 07-21-22
Aimlessly looking through my library for a title to suit me while I worked, nothing recently bought appealed to me. So I went back to old purchases and tried a few books, but nothing struck a chord at the moment.
Between Two Fires by Christopher Buehlman was one of these books I tried out, stealing my attention quickly, and sending me down a path for 14 hours and 26 minutes, listened over the course of two days. I realised at a certain point that it was one of those stories that I didn't want to end, and felt excited to hear the remainder of the book the next day.
Bravo! Thank you Christopher for an engaging book.

Historia
In 1925, James Henry Breasted sent a team of archaeologists to the Holy Land to excavate the ancient site of Megiddo - Armageddon in the New Testament. Their excavations made headlines around the world and shed light on one of the most legendary cities of biblical times. Digging Up Armageddon brings to life one of the most important archaeological expeditions ever undertaken, describing the site and what was found there, and providing an up-close look at the internal workings of a dig in the early years of biblical archaeology.

Not really about Armageddon
Revisado: 05-09-22
I enjoyed Mr.Cline's book, 1177, truly a remarkable book. Sadly I am unable to give this book, "Digging Up Armageddon", a positive review. This might be more due to unmet expectations stemming from both the description of the book and the wealth of information provided by 1177. This book is not about Armageddon, I learned nothing about the city, its importance, history, etc, but rather the drama of the actual dig, spanning from the 1920's until modern times. I hate to give Eric Cline a low rating, but I will say if you haven't read 1177, it's an amazing book. I've listened to it a number of times over the years since it's publication.

Narrator needs meds
Revisado: 02-11-22
The narrator ruined this story for me. During emotional or tense moments the narrator stops reading and begins to act out the emotions and utterly over does it. She goes into hysterics which is jarring with the audiobook in the background while I work. She verges on near crying at times, and it really does this book an injustice. Ms. Ezzo has a good voice, and the producer of this book should have had the foresight to reign her in. I think the narrator misguides the strength of the main character, giving her a whinny hysterical attribute that might have never been intended by the author.

Historia
Poised on the brink of success, the dizzying heights of the unknown lying ahead, Ian Curtis had taken his own life. Grieving yet determined, Stephen Morris emerged from the wreckage of Joy Division to the dawn of something new: a new band, a new tour, a new beginning. Under the name New Order, Morris and his bandmates set their sights on America, only to encounter new disasters. Yet, in true northern spirit, not even this sudden tragedy could dissuade them from following their haphazard path to greatness.

Rare look
Revisado: 01-14-22
It took my well into my own art career to understand how lucky I had been in my youth to be fans of Stephen Morris's band, New Order. Listening to his account made me realise the ethos of the band was not for show, but something each of the members believed, as people who saw no division between themselves and other humans, not more special, more gifted, nor attempted to follow some trend in fashion let alone in music.
Stephen's account tells a story about his own obsession with music and attempting to wrangle out sounds from equipment that was new, at times untested and tried. As Stephen mentions from time to time, now days one can push buttons on a computer to get the results that at times took he and members of the band to build their own machines, It was also interesting to find that my own feelings about the band began changing in the early 1990's, during the time when the band themselves began feeling and relating a sea change in their outlook in the band.
New Order certainly made a big impact on my life, in a time when I was a lost young lad. It provided a soundtrack to the creation of my own art. It was wonderful to see how normal the members of the band are, and not at all caught up in the whole fame game.
Stephen comes across as someone who is an every day person, except his specialty in life has moved from model airplanes to music. There is no pretence at all in his story. A well written story, brought to life by Stephen's own voice that emotes well during the various parts. He is a great narrator, something he probably had never seen himself as.

Historia
Before he was responsible for some of the most iconic drumming in popular music, Stephen Morris grew up in 1960s and '70s industrial Macclesfield, on a quiet road that led seemingly to nowhere. Far removed from the bright lights and manic energy of nearby Manchester, he felt stifled by suburbia and feared he might never escape. Then he joined Joy Division - while they were still known as Warsaw - a pioneer of the rousing post-punk sound that would revolutionise 20th-century rock.

Refreshing!
Revisado: 01-14-22
Record Play Pause is an authentic, behind the scenes look from the drummer Stephen Morris. The narrative is honest, open, humorous, and filled with the nuts and bolts of Morris's account. At times self depreciative, at times the fly on the wall, it's an unique perspective on one of the most influential bands of the late and the early 1980's. A must listen to for fans of the Post Punk genre.

Historia
The frontiersmen were a remarkable breed of men. They were often rough and illiterate, sometimes brutal and vicious, often seeking an escape in the wilderness of mid-America from crimes committed back east. In the beautiful but deadly country which would one day come to be known as West Virginia, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois, more often than not they left their bones to bleach beside forest paths or on the banks of the Ohio River.

A wonderful story, one forgets its a biography
Revisado: 01-22-20
It took me a while to begin the Frontiersmen, as it is a long listen, but I couldn't stop listening once I began. The narrative is done with skill and care in term of the author's writing and historical data, the story is so engrossing that the book flies by. It is a piece of history as well, a history that Eckert brings alive, so it feels like a story and less of a biography.
I highly recommend this book to people who love history and epic story telling.

Robinson can tell a story until he can't
Revisado: 10-30-19
I like Jeremy Robinson's work. I've listened or read a number of them. However there is an issue I find in many of the books I have read or listened to. It starts with great characters, great pace, great situations, and then it bogs down. I don't know why. I feel at a certain point I'm losing interest, and I can't pin point it yet.
However this being said, i will continue to buy and read his books. Some I won't be able to retain interest in, others I do. Others I will force myself to the end, others I want to finish. Maybe it's me, maybe it's him. But don't let my opinion sway you from getting this book. I tend to leave reviews critically honest.
Again, I really enjoyed this book up until a certain part. Had I left a review based upon the first part of the book, it would be five stars around.
