Historia
Writer Ben Mears has returned to his hometown of Jerusalem's Lot with the hope that moving into a delapidated mansion, long the subject of town lore, might help him get a handle on his life and provide inspiration for a new book. But when two young boys venture into the woods and only one comes out alive, Mears begins to realize that there may be something sinister at work.

Not the best of King...
Revisado: 09-30-24
The characters act in a slightly illogical way and the ending sort of unravels and leaves loose ends and unanswered questions...

Nothing very new, but could be good for teenagers
Revisado: 06-21-24
The book is well written, but the ideas are pretty basic. If you have ever tried to go on a diet and ended up hiding the unhealthy snacks in a hard to reach place or not buying them altogether so they are not easily accessible when the cravings hit, you will probably not hear anything new upon reading this book. It was a nice quick read, but I think it would be more interesting for people who are just discovering ways to battle procrastination rather than anyone who is more used to handling responsibilities.

Historia
Welcome to Derry, Maine. It’s a small city, a place as hauntingly familiar as your own hometown. Only in Derry the haunting is real. They were seven teenagers when they first stumbled upon the horror. Now they are grown-up men and women who have gone out into the big world to gain success and happiness. But the promise they made 28 years ago calls them reunite in the same place where, as teenagers, they battled an evil creature that preyed on the city’s children.

Good start, bizarre (in a negative way) ending
Revisado: 06-13-24
The book was hard to get through. The characters were great, but part of the story circles around them acting irrationally and like "controlled by higher power", which makes it hard to relate to or enjoy. The ending completely fell flat for me, I couldn't wait to finish the book so I can move on. Disappointed...

Historia
In the middle of the night, in a house on a quiet street in suburban Minneapolis, intruders silently murder Luke Ellis' parents and load him into a black SUV. The operation takes less than two minutes. Luke will wake up at The Institute, in a room that looks just like his own, except there's no window. And outside his door are other doors, behind which are other kids with special talents - telekinesis and telepathy - who got to this place the same way Luke did: Kalisha, Nick, George, Iris, and 10-year-old Avery Dixon.

A good teenage read!
Revisado: 05-03-24
Compared to other books I've read, this one is a bir more geared to kids (maybe teenagers, as there's some rough scenes). It was good, but left me craving for more. Still a fantastic read though!

Historia
This is the way the world ends: with a nanosecond of computer error in a Defense Department laboratory and a million casual contacts that form the links in a chain letter of death. And here is the bleak new world of the day after: a world stripped of its institutions and emptied of 99 percent of its people. A world in which a handful of panicky survivors choose sides - or are chosen.

Fantastic! I only wish it was longer...
Revisado: 04-02-24
Maybw Not my favorite (King's Fairy Tale topped this for me), but definitely out there as one of the top books I've ever read. It was a slower and more painful start, but when it picked up, it was hard to put down. This is a good time to read it after having gone through COVID... Give it 2 hours and you'll be 100% invested!

Historia
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

This is my second King's book (I want the fan of the Shining) and it's easily one of my favorites. It's like a combination of adult Wizard of Oz, Hunger Games and fairy tales with a vibrant story and adventures. I wish they made a movie.

The worst of Courtney's...
Revisado: 12-04-23
I'm a big fan of the author's, but this book was a struggle. The characters are annoying and I really ended up hating them towards the end, plus, there's some perverse justification for heroin, which is a complete fantasy co concocted from someone who obviously doesn't know much about it, as well as a weird version of throuple (what, there aren't enough men in the world for the characters to dite over the same one?) ... I just couldn't root for Anna, as she in my opinion, was just a traumatized annoying brat, always getting her way from the main character, who seemed just a pushover. I'm disappointed and couldn't wait to finish this book.

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Interesting idea, but gets frustrating
Revisado: 09-12-23
The book joins two stories: a retired woman, who cleans an aquarium, and a good-for-nothing guy, who is looking for his long lost father, joined by an extra smart human-like octopus. The idea is unique, but somewhere with 3-4 hour left in the book, the ending revelation becomes clear and it gets just frustrating to listen to it, as suddenly the plot turns into a series of "unfortunate events". Think about someone finally calling to tell the main secret, just for the recipient to "accidentally" lose their phone, or someone wanting to show an item that would help resolve all secrets, just to get angry and actually throw it out... that kind of stuff. This draws the story out and makes it frustrating to listen to. Nice idea, but way too much relish taken into torturing the listener with a manufactured suspense. Nice and heartwarming ending though! That's undeniable.

Historia
In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women—mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends—view one another. A deeply moving novel filled with poignancy, humor, and hope, The Help is a timeless and universal story about the lines we abide by, and the ones we don't.

Historia
It's the 1960s and the world of advertising is coming alive - and it's an exciting world to be part of. Simon Wong, a Chinese-Australian and promising young advertising executive, is sent to Singapore to establish an office. He finds himself thrust into an environment that is at once strangely familiar and profoundly different; one where the rules that govern behaviour - both in business and in personal life - differ wildly from what he is used to. And where all is not what it appears to be.

Revisado: 06-17-22
Not the best by the author, but does not disappoint. it's essentially a love story, set in early Singapore. as always, there's a lot of cultural aspects incorporated in the story, which make Singapore come alive. Excellent read!
