Feel good Christmas stories that are entertaining but for the most part unrealistic. Enjoyable fluff. Not a fan of the virtual voice.

Story line, delivery great. Not a fan of cursing and taking God's name in vain. Don't understand why that's necessary.

Based on the true story of a WW2 woman sniper. Sensitive to the horrors and intricacies of war, a woman's place in war, love and sacrifices. A wonderful book.

Disappointed
Revisado: 01-30-23
I wish the authors would refrain from using foul language. In reality, I'm sure that's the way it is but there are other authors who don't consider it necessary to use the foul language. Storyline, military intrigue would be very interesting.

Now, her home destroyed, her children lost to her, she has been sold into the service of a powerful woman tribal leader and made a pawn in the ongoing bloody struggle between English settlers and native people. Battling cold, hunger, and exhaustion, Mary witnesses harrowing brutality but also unexpected kindness.

Disappointing
Revisado: 03-14-22
Bottom line: I read a review by someone who had researched Mary Rowlandson's true story and written account of what happened. Apparently the author took a lot of liberty in her interpretation of events and the most disappointing was there was actually no "James" or similar relationship in the original narrative.

Don't miss reading (listening) to this book!
Revisado: 03-05-22
Happy, sad, thought provoking. The story line starts slow. Initially I had a hard time listening to the narrator of the book but then her voice became the character.
I'll say simply, having grown up in the 50's, 60's, and desegregation years, this book should make all of us think about our intentional or unintentional racial biases.

Historia
When Sandra Leigh was seven years old, she fell into the role of protector of her mother and three younger siblings. One winter night, she ushered her mother out of the house during one of her father’s tirades, and then snuck her back into the dark home through a window. Sandra was used to events like these; what she wasn’t used to were the mountains and nature surrounding her new home in West Virginia.

Great Story but Conflicted
Revisado: 01-15-22
"Struggled to finish but overall enjoyed the book" is the best opening statement of my review. It's a very interesting, "want to know how it ends" story; that's why I finished it. Sometimes it's hard to follow, sometimes it moves very slowly, but for me the bad language and cursing was hard to listen to. A great story can be told without the bad language. I'd love to ask the author questions about her dreams, her siblings dream about their sister; very interesting or does that just make the story better. Her love/hate relationship with God leaves questions; maybe that's just from a child's perspective. All in all it opens one's eyes to a family's struggle with poverty, the children's resilience and eventual success, but most importantly that they were able to reunite with their sister!

Historia
In seaside Blueberry Cove, Maine, friends are just another word for family, and big-city politics take a backseat to local pride. But the real treasure on these shores is always love.... When DC lawyer Hannah McCrae heads home for her brother's wedding, she's dragging a lot of baggage along with her - and she doesn't mean suitcases. Betrayed personally and humiliated professionally, the last thing she wants is a new man. That's fine with square-jawed, rugged contractor Calder Blue.

Not A Christian Novel
Revisado: 11-15-21
I loved the story line. Think it was well written as far as engaging, keeping my interest in what happens. However, this was published by Thomas Nelson Publishers. Their mission and philosophy begins with "We inspire the world by meeting the needs of people with content that promotes Biblical principles and HONORS Jesus Christ.
I borrowed this because it was well stated: "I am greatly bothered that this is labeled as Christian Fiction. A main story line is one of the character dealing with spiritual issues and her main influence is a Buddhist. I hoped she would come to see that this mindset was contrary to Scripture, but that never happened. In fact, "Christian" characters in the book encouraged her to keep seeking and listening to all the voices knowing that they would lead her to the truth. Jesus makes it clear in Scripture.. "I am THE Way, THE Truth and THE Life. NO ONE Comes to the Father EXCEPT THROUGH ME."
The constant referral to "(Virgin) Mary" and Mary speaking to her (Lovey), guiding her is not Biblical. Jesus Christ leads us by example, prayer, spending time in His Word.

This may be an unfair review because I couldn't get past listening to the narrator; also didn't care for the language used in the part I listened to.
