Historia
April is an exceptional young lady and something of a snoop. After a chance encounter with a spy, she finds herself involved with political intrigues that stretch her abilities. There is a terrible danger she, and her friends and family, will lose the only home she has ever known, and be forced to live on the slum ball Earth below. It's more than an almost fourteen year old should have to deal with. Fortunately she has a lot of smart friends and allies. It's a good thing because things get very rough and dicey. They challenge the political status quo, and with a small population the only ...

A mediocre real narrator would be better
Revisado: 02-21-24
This book and the entire April series are favorites of mine. Mackey Chandler has created a wonderful set of characters and the near future world building deserves top marks.
I was excited to see April finally appear as an audiobook but the virtual narrator was suspicious.
After completing the book the best I can say for the virtual narration is it’s better than no audiobook. The lack of character differentiation for dialogue is painful and the way acronyms are handled will make you grind your teeth.
It would be 10 times better with a real narrator, but as an April fan this was better than nothing.

Historia
It’s hard for S. Beaufont to imagine that dragons were nearly extinct when they’re now hatching so rapidly. However, for every good dragon, there’s an evil one. That’s the way the angels set it up. But can things be changed? Can an evil dragon turn good? And if so, is it possible a good one can switch, too? As new evils lurk in the world, Sophia works to manage the new population at the Gullington. Never before were there so many possibilities for maintaining justice. But never before were there so many trying to break the law.

Sophia continues to be amazing
Revisado: 11-30-22
Sophia & Rudolf and Sophia & Lee scenes were spot on for the Beaufont series.
Sophia & Lunis keep on being the marvelous duo they’ve been since the Liv books; their cheesy jokes and companionship are the high point of these books.
The low point is still the centuries old guy’s romance with the teenager. It would 5 stars all the way if Sophia had a better love interest.

Two thumbs up for Sophia
Revisado: 11-25-22
Sophia like Liv is an easy heroine to root for and it’s a pleasure to follow her adventures.
It’s a little unsettling that a ten year old magically transformed into a 18 year old is pursued by a two or three hundred year old. It’s a bit weak that it is waved away as: dragon riders are different so it’s okay for a centuries old guy to pursue a teenager. Sophia says no but the borderline pedophile doesn’t accept her denial and forces the issue despite her obvious reluctance. The fact the secondary characters push Sophia on the issue instead of supporting her casts doubt on the overall theme of morality & justice.
The fact that is the romance angle for the series is uncomfortable but doesn’t ruin how awesome Sophia & Lunis are.

Hooking up five minutes after the student graduates
Revisado: 11-23-22
Paris has been a phenomenal follow up to Liv & Sophia. These characters are easy to cheer on and force you to like them. The books often cause a smile and quite a few laughs while listening to them. The Beaufonts are in a setting with interesting organizations and delightful secondary characters.
The single negative that almost tanks all the Beaufont wonderfulness is Paris’s romantic interest. Professor Hemingway is extra handsy then leaves at the beginning of the book; woohoo the conclusion of the series had a chance to be redeemed. That is a trick out by the author and he ends up being part of the “happy ending.”
It’s not tawdry at all for a teacher to shack up with their former student during a graduation ceremony. I’m not sure how this cringeworthy relationship made it into the Beaufont books, this nearly ruined the entire Paris series.

Historia
Most fairies are obsessed with love. But not all. There are evil fairies out in the world who don’t care about peace, love, and romance. They are obsessed with their greed, creating trouble for others and destroying all that is good in the world. Paris Beaufont won’t stand for that. However, facing fairies with dark magic will put her to the ultimate test. It’s difficult to fight villains who don’t play fair and will stop at nothing to get what they want. Can Paris stop the evil tooth fairies before they destroy Happily Ever After College?

Teacher-Student Romance is Unseemly
Revisado: 11-23-22
The series and characters are terrific, the Beaufonts are delightful characters in an awesome setting. Dara Rosenberg is perfect for these books.
The teacher-student relationships are unnerving and make several scenes awkward. If Paris’s love interest was any sort of peer or located outside her school the books would be stellar; instead Hemingway has a creep factor that should set off Paris’s demon blood evil detector but somehow doesn’t. He’s a handsy professor and that’s simply gross.

For a long time, another group of fairies has lived in the shadows of the godmothers. And they won’t stop until they destroy the place they loathe. When Paris learns these forces want to take down her college, she springs into action. However, these new villains don’t fight fair. They are known for being just as rebellious as Paris Beaufont.

Teacher Making the Moves on a Student
Revisado: 11-23-22
This series would be very enjoyable if it wasn’t for the teacher-student romance. That gives me the creeps. I think they are close in age but the power dynamic of any faculty seeking a relationship with a student makes my skin crawl and almost ruins the series.

Izzie & Luke are nice to see again and Alison excels as always with her primary character flaw of being too nice to the bad guys when she tries to give them a chance.
Mason continues to drag the series down, Alison could date a pseudo sentient pile of slime and the series would be 2-3 stars better.

This series has been declining
Revisado: 03-04-22
The books overall have been decent and exactly what I expected from the authors. The setting, events, and most of the characters deserve two thumbs up. The series checks all the boxes for action oriented urban fantasy/paranormal.
My objection to every book in the series since book 2 is Alison’s boyfriend has been ruining the series. It seems as if he was forcefully wedged into the story and it comes across as if he is manipulating Alison.
It’s baffling, there are dozens, if not hundreds, of great characters in the Oriceran universe and somehow Alison was paired up with a cockwhistle by the authors.

Same world no Clovenhoof
Revisado: 06-03-21
This book delivers Goody & Grant’s storytelling and humor fine. I’ve given it three stars for story because Clovenhoof is the star of this world. Stephen nor Rutspud are noteworthy enough to make up for the lack of the star character.
This is worth listening to all the same, the authors do good work. Fair warning you shouldn’t expect the fun of the fist two books or substitutes who did as well as Joan.
