Less Than Full And Well Rounded
Revisado: 10-21-24
The story should have been entitled the Revolutionary Founding. The other half of Washington's life and the half that gave him comfort, succor, and allowed him to stand on it's shoulders was almost totally written out... that half was his long-lived, and love filled marriage to his soul mare, Martha Washington. This book was a boring ponderous cardboard cut out of George Washington.

Historia
Abigail Adams offers a fresh perspective on the famous events of Adams's life, and along the way, Woody Holton, a renowned historian of the American Revolution, takes on numerous myths about the men and women of the founding era. But the book also demonstrates that domestic dramas---from unplanned pregnancies to untimely deaths---could be just as heartbreaking, significant, and inspiring as the actions of statesmen and soldiers.

The Heroine is a Nitwit!
Revisado: 03-22-22
The Heroine is a complete Nitwit! She gets herself into stupid situations that require a big brave man to get her out. She hasn't even the courage to face up to a drunken kiss and does the "Woah is me" routine for the rest of the book. And the Inspector is not any better.

Worst "Daisy" story yet. Don't bother!
Revisado: 11-09-21
The worst! The dumbest, most unbelievable "Dumb Daisy" story yet. Thank goodness I didn't spend $$'s or credits as I would have had to ask for my money back.
As it was I just skipped the last two chapters and caught epilog so I could leave this review.

Historia
The gathering has the appearance of a smart autumn house party - stunning women and powerful men enjoying a few days of leisurely pleasure in a setting of exquisite beauty. In fact, the guests are Irish Protestants and Catholics gathered in a reluctant parley over home rule for Ireland, a problem that has plagued the British Isles since the reign of Elizabeth I. When the meeting's moderator, government bigwig Ainsley Greville, is found murdered in his bath, the negotations seemed doomed.

Historia
England, 1920. Eleanor Swift has spent the last few years travelling the world: taking tea in China, tasting alligators in Peru, escaping bandits in Persia and she has just arrived in England after a chaotic 45-day flight from South Africa. Chipstone is about the sleepiest town you could have the misfortune to meet. But then, from the edge of a quarry, through the driving rain, Eleanor is shocked to see a man shot and killed in the distance. Before she can climb down to the spot, the villain is gone and the body has vanished.

Stretches the Readers Congruence to the Max!!
Revisado: 09-27-21
I really wanted to like this story, but the reader is suppose to first *like* a temperamental, headstrong, contrary GIRL (and I stress the word girl, as *woman* is just too far to stretch the imagination) who supposedly first makes her way around the world on her own, and then defeats a murderous, blackmailer where all the rest of law muddles after her.
The performance was terrific, but the story was unbelievable.
A female "Sherlock" she is not.
I realize this is the first try so I'm willing to give the series a second chance, but if this Nitwit doesn't grow up some and flesh out into an interesting character instead of a one dimensional cardboard, foot-stomping baby I won't be wasting any more credits or time with Verity Bright.

Finally! King returned to what made me love her books. I had decided that if this one was a bad as some of her recent past offerings, I was done, but this one has returned to Mary & Sherlock working together to weave a great story.
