Historia
With the closing of the Harlan County, Kentucky coalmines, marijuana has become the biggest cash crop in the state. A hundred pounds of it can gross three-hundred thousand dollars, but that’s chump change compared to the quarter million a human body can get you - especially when it’s sold off piece-by-piece. So when Dickie and Coover Crowe, dope-dealing brothers known for sampling their own supply, decide to branch out into the body business, it’s up to U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens to stop them.

Historia
LAPD cop Scott James is not doing so well, not since a shocking nighttime assault by unidentified men killed his partner, Stephanie, nearly killed him, and left him enraged, ashamed, and ready to explode. He is unfit for duty - until he meets his new partner. Maggie is not doing so well, either. The German shepherd survived three tours in Iraq and Afghanistan sniffing explosives before she lost her handler to an IED and sniper attack, and her PTSD is as bad as Scott’s. They are each other’s last chance.

My first of many Crais listens
Revisado: 12-20-17
If Crais is not a former cop or dog guy-then he really has done his homework...I am a 36 year former cop and spent 11 years supervising or explaining for my dog teams. This book captures that aspect of police work VERY ACCURATELY. The story is very good and the police work is also up to snuff as well. That is high praise from me. It is a rare book that isn't bogged down in the why rather than talking about process. I think I've found a new author!

Time flies and this is a bit dated
Revisado: 10-29-17
When I read this it made a convert out of me but it's dated. Going to try Holidays in Heck...hope its more timely. BUT KEEP IN MIND THAT P J is still a genius. I thank him for hours of entertainment and an education from a guy who claims to have been a loutish dope smoking do-nothing. He must have been paying SOME attention despite what he says. Thanks P J

Historia
July 1863. The Confederate Army of Northern Virginia is invading the North. General Robert E. Lee has made this daring and massive move with seventy thousand men in a determined effort to draw out the Union Army of the Potomac and mortally wound it. His right hand is General James Longstreet, a brooding man who is loyal to Lee but stubbornly argues against his plan. Opposing them is an unknown factor: General George Meade, who has taken command of the Army only two days before what will be perhaps the crucial battle of the Civil War.

Not purple prose- purple narration
Revisado: 09-10-17
Would you listen to The Killer Angels again? Why?
Not really- I have to confess I was put off by the text and the narration . So much injected "drama" put into this I'm really surprised the Pulitzer was given to this work...I have grown to love the genre and am disappointed by this recording. Keep in mind I have finished all but 3 of jeff Shaara's work and will likely re-listen to most if not all of them. I can't imagine the actual narrator making this so difficult to listen to.
What did you like best about this story?
This is perhaps the most dramatic moment in the civil war...J L Chamberlain could be singled out as the greatest hero of the war. Quite an accomplishment for such a big event. This book did challenge the Infallibility os Lee and other Generals.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
Too much drama This may be from the text.
Any additional comments?
I was surprised that I didn't like this book better- disappointing... particularly after liking his son's work.

Historia
After the success of the Normandy invasion, the Allied commanders are buoyantly confident that the war in Europe will be over in a matter of weeks, that Hitler and his battered army have no other option than surrender. But despite the advice of his best military minds, Hitler will hear no talk of defeat. In mid-December 1944, the Germans launch a desperate and ruthless counteroffensive in the Ardennes forest, utterly surprising the unprepared Americans who stand in their way.

A modern master of the historical novel, Jeff Shaara has painted brilliant depictions of the Civil War, the Revolutionary War, and World War I. Now he embarks upon his most ambitious epic, a trilogy about the military conflict that defined the 20th century. The Rising Tide begins a staggering work of fiction bound to be a new generation's most poignant chronicle of World War II.

Helpful perspective
Revisado: 01-23-17
This book provided a perspective on the Italian campaign I hadn't considered. Most of the histories about WW2 dwell on d-day and after... My dad was a muleskinner in Italy and I now need to look at that aspect more closely. This was an engaging novel and well worth the listen!

Historia
In September 1960, John Steinbeck and his poodle, Charley, embarked on a journey across America, from small towns to growing cities to glorious wilderness oases. Travels with Charley is animated by Steinbeck’s attention to the specific details of the natural world and his sense of how the lives of people are intimately connected to the rhythms of nature—to weather, geography, the cycles of the seasons. His keen ear for the transactions among people is evident, too, as he records the interests and obsessions that preoccupy the Americans he encounters along the way.

Revisado: 11-21-16
This book was part of a high school literature book. I breezed through and gave it little thought. Thanks to Audible I got a second chance.
Again- Thank you...and thank you Gary...great job. At first I thought your voice might be too gentle to narrate Steinbeck...something I forgot almost immediately.
