I came to this book as someone with anxiety. I didn't miss but overlooked the early red flags of new thought and cherry picked eastern religious overtones that some think are not religious but are instead spiritual. I think biases like these should be stated like conflicts of interest in a scientific study. the author berates a very simple point because it does not constitute a whole book.

I'm currently 6 months pregnant with my first child and an avid audio book listener. This book was recommended to me by a surgeon at work who had success sleep-trainer her now 2-year old using this method. While I have doubts in regards to breastfeeding as others have mentioned, I can see the logic in implementing a schedule early provided the baby is meeting weight and milestone goals.

my main issue with this book is not in whether or not it works because my child isn't here yet. rather, the performer is very dry and robotic, making it a little too easy to zone out. And I really feel this material is better suited to reading. The pdf is unhelpful, containing the sorts of record tables used in every inexpensive newborn log book. what's not included, frustratingly, is a pdf that visually represents the schedule at what age. Figure 4 is the closest we get to this and it's unclear what age it's intended for.

TLDR: save your credits and get a hard copy or ebook instead.

while listening to the sample, I heard myself be described exactly. I didn't intend to find this as a new year self growth book, but it found me.

Ms Tawwab is easy to follow, explains in simple terms, and avoids flowery language or long examples. I'm excited to work on my own boundaries as a result of this book, and I feel I have the tools to do so.

most of the material is copy and pasted from one meditation to another, with a lot of repetitation and generalization. if you want progressive relaxation, it's not here. if you want to be told to "relax completely" 9000 times, it'd here.

just listen to free YouTube meditations instead.

this book is none of its promises.

it promotes having the mind of a grazing cow: think nothing and you will magically become blissful.

instead, consider a good book on mindfulness. this is more of a Buddhist manifesto.

• Dry, droning, brainless voice: perfect choice for the content
• Authors extreme prejudice reads loud and clear through common language of the book and detracts from otherwise valuable information. For example, I'm thinking especially of her dogged insistence on phrases such as "pill bleed" or "withdrawal bleed" instead of menstruation. According to the dictionary she's not strictly incorrect, but it's an odd and alienating semantic point. If I were on hormonal BC, I think this would feel much like a personal judgment, when I'm already reading this book because some part of me thinks hormonal BC is something that should be quitted.
• For someone who berates physicians and modern medicine in general, but especially for their confusion of FAM and the rhythm method, she does an exceptionally good job of bungling its explanation. As a practitioner of FAM, and as a person who's read TCOYF cover to cover, a lot of her instruction on FAM is inaccurate or misleading.
• The author frequently sprinkles in medical terminology in odd places without complete use, a fact most apparent when she's quoting PhD-prepared scientists and physicians, because you can see what less biased scientific literacy looks like in real time comparison.
• She plays up hormonal BC risks using dramatic language, and downplays any real benefits. The use of relative and absolute statistics would be very helpful, allowing the reader to make her own decisions about what an acceptable risk sounds like.
• I would be no better than the author if I didn't talk about what she did well. I learned so much in Chapter 4 about a healthy cycle, the corpus luteum, and estrogen and progesterone. I knew the basics of these things, but she raised my understanding by a level or two of detail. Her passion for women's health and reproductive anatomy shines through, and I feel it would be a radically different, more enjoyable book if she would harness her positive passion instead of spending the majority of the book harping and snarking.
• She says early in the book that she's used research wherever possible, and where she hasn't used it it's because it hasn't become available yet. Which to me says, there are points where she went off of anecdote and completely departed from the science because she didn't have a basis for her claims
• You don't need a science degree to know that it's a red flag when someone calls a supplement a miracle drug
• Sugar as an inflammatory ingredient: fear mongering over fruit?
• Literally what are you supposed to be able to eat if you can't eat gluten, diary, fructose? Nothing but oil, vegetable, meat and potato?
• Histamine intolerance is not a medical diagnosis: this literally is not a thing
• No wonder you need 800 supplements! You can't eat anything!

I want my money back!

The 1st several chapters are the strongest in the book. In the book. I largely enjoyed them and and took the information to heart.. Somewhere in the middle of the book, I found myself wondering where the author was going and started skipping chapters when I heard familiar lines. The last few chapters of the book are all appendicities. 2 of them I found so useful that I bookmarked for later. Most of them I found somewhat irrelevant. All in all, I found about half the book very informative. The other half of the book, I skipped entirely.

Sometimes the tone of the book made me chuckle. But especially towards the end of the book, it felt like the author was just taking pot-shots at men and conservative modern medical treatment. She could have handled more in a scientific tone and referred to more research, in my opinion. I found her opinions on C-Sections and IVF not only unnecessary, but potentially toxic, as we don't choose our lots in life, and could turn women away from avenues that are helpful to them.

the reader/author is a talented comic and her advice is approachable and sensible. I ripped through her book in just a few days and will be returning to some of the chapters as needed.

I really enjoyed this book as someone who is currently dating someone that God has sent. It is true both in terms of this fulfilling relationship and many previous on fulfilling relationships. I wish I had this book so much sooner. I have sent it to friends already who are questioning their relationships in the hopes of offering them the reflection and guidance that they seek. A wonderful book that deserves a chance.

the narrator of the book reads like a robot. Seriously, I would have my MacBook read to me while I was in college and that's almost exactly what this guy sounds like. the author wastes a lot of time talking about introductory information that never relates back to the main point, and makes the same point over and over and over again. There isn't really that much interesting information to be gotten. By far the best thing I learned was the reference to "How to grow more vegetables" by John Jeavons. it's like me you are somewhere in between a serious Gardener and a hobby farmer, you're probably better off looking into the grow biointensive method then reading this snoozefest of a book.
