Revisado: 03-30-14

The combined works of Adrian McKinty are excellent. Joseph Wambaugh has cop talk down, Adrian McKinty has the complex street talk of Northern Ireland even better. Sean Duffy, his character, struggles with his own devils while he frustrates his superiors in the RUC, the Royal Ulster Constabulary. Through it all he slogs on to solve problems and mysteries.

If you liked the Reacher novels, you'll like these. The hero is a former sniper who takes on bad guys who are really bad. He has internal demons that he battles as well as the bad guys. Dick Hill, as always, does a great job bringing the novel to life.

This is the most fun you can have reading about a serial killer. Serge and Coleman are up to their old tricks showing non-Floridians the "real Florida," including Mac 10's.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

My friend and I listened to this book during a road trip. The author jumps back and forth in time without any notice to the listener. This makes it VERY hard to follow. My wife is currently listening to it and she is complaining about the same thing. Perhaps the print version is easier to follow, but his is very difficult.

What does Mozhan Marno bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Marno makes the best of the reading. She is skilled and performs wonderfully.

Any additional comments?

The main character is female. She is a former CIA assassin who travels to Europe to be with her husband. This in itself should appeal to women listeners, but the book is so hard to follow that this is not enough to make it worthwhile.

Would you try another book from Adam Mitzner and/or David LeDoux?

I think David LeDoux does a great job reading the book. Its written in a first person narrative that wears rather thin. Although the story has a few twists and turns, the ending is predictable and the entire book leaves you a bit unsatisfied.

Would you be willing to try another book from Adam Mitzner? Why or why not?

I don't think I'd try another Mitzner book for awhile.

Patrick Tull adds greatly to this series.

Total
4 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 04-21-11

I've listened to all of the Patrick O'Brian series, Sharpe series, and now most of the Brother Cadfael novels. In each of these series Patrick Tull does an amazing job with the narration. His voice and skill as a reader adds tremendously to my experience as a listener. When you have a choice, select the edition with Tull as the narrator. Ellis Peters (Edith Pargeter) has done a wonderful job with this series. From the first, the characters have grown and become more fully developed. It is a wonderful way to enjoy a first class murder mystery and feel you're in the 12th century as well.

Copperhead Audiolibro Por Bernard Cornwell arte de portada

Richard Sharpe Lite

Total
3 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 12-25-10

I read Cornwell's Richard Sharpe series and found it wonderful. The books of this series that he has completed are a good read, but not in the same league as Sharpe. If you haven't read Sharpe's Rifles, that is a more interesting series.

A very compelling listen

Revisado: 12-25-10

I bought this book because I am a huge fan of narrator Patrick Tull. I had listened to his reading all the way through the Patrick OBrian Aubrey-Maturian series. I am glad I did buy it because I found this Brother Cadfael novel to be very entertaining. You have to hang in there a bit if you start with this book because you don't have any of the backstory. That said, once you sort out the characters the book stands alone apart from the rest of the series. I will go back and start reading this new series from the beginning.

Pushed the author's political views

Total
2 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 12-25-10

The characters in the book mouth a lot of words like honor, courage, and values. The author has little of these has he does a thinly veiled smear of a number of Americans that do not share his political views. While the story line and action are certainly compelling, his Fox Network view of the world is a bit off putting.
