Historia
There are three phases to a zombie apocalypse... run... hide...fight. Billy was there right at the beginning when the first victim coughed over their lunch. Amanda was working as a nurse at the E.R. and Samantha was about to meet the cult behind the whole outbreak. Professor Preston, head of the CDC, tried to rally the forces of science, but found himself awaiting his execution in a junkyard. The list of characters grows as they run, hide, and learn to fight, not just the growlers, but the forces that unleashed them. The government tried nuking the growlers, but that just spread the ...

Story was infected by the authors dislike of religion, military, conservatives… disappointing

Decently entertaining in spite of the authors obvious biases guiding the storyline but I did not finish.

Bleak
Revisado: 05-23-24
The stories were a little too rambling and the endings were far from what I like in a fiction. I have to say I’m not a Cormac fan with The Road being an exception.
The character from the 1st book is back but seems to have lost all good judgement.

Historia
Hello, Shadowlands takes a deep plunge into crime rings both large and small. It also examines how China’s rise and America’s decline are creating new opportunities for transnational syndicates to thrive. Focusing on human stories on both sides of this crime wave, the acclaimed Bangkok-based broadcaster and journalist Patrick Winn intimately profiles the men and women of the region who are forced to make agonizing choices in the absence of law.

Author has too high opinion of his own opinion
Revisado: 09-10-23
Smug, flippant eagerness to mete criticism there and absolution here. Patrick imagines his loose moral perspective is the best qualification to judge history and culture.
I was interested to hear about the shadowlands, but the author’s witty hipness was excessive and tiring.

??? Half spoof, half missing
Revisado: 05-29-23
Seemed like a story outline that wasn’t properly filled in and I couldn’t figure out if the author was struggling to come up with believable details or writing tongue in cheek.
Plot: You’re picking up young daughter from airport, kiss her head, then realize it’s not your daughter, so take her home anyway to figure out what’s going on. You ask your brother for help and before he does anything his car is blown up as a warning, followed soon after by his house.
Climax: After some running and hiding there’s a shootout involving your ex wife, who you discover is part of a secretive government agency.
Anticlimax: Although everyone’s still in the dark on what’s driving the destruction and killing, you’re all ready for tea and a bath, and to put it all behind you.
Epilogue: you’re ex explains that she was recruited in school for said secret agency and everything she’s done since was to build her false identity (including marrying you) in order to bring down a corrupt billionaire who has been kidnapping and killing the children of his prime competitor in order to spoil the future potential of his rival company.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Eh. Didn’t live up to potential
Revisado: 05-13-23
The premise was interesting.. but went bad bad bad about the time the alien began speaking, and repeating. I made it to about chapter 15 but it had evolved into a chore.
The main character seems to represent the author’s alter ego, a witty atheist who can save the day, and humanity, against all odds using wit alone.
Thankfully, in this story, alien life evolved to his level of altruistic nobility, so there’s no need to fear it. No, we can all band together as common descendants of space faring amebas!
Can you imagine Earth’s leaders granting unlimited authority and impunity to a single individual, tasking them to align all the worlds resources toward the creation of an interstellar spacecraft in hopes of saving all life under the sun? The ability to take whatever, whomever they deem useful at any time, backed with all military might? That awesome power is fantastically displayed when the character walks out of patent court IN DEFIANCE OF THE JUDGE!
The main character kindly explains for all lesser minds, how human brains are inadequate, sloppily formed without forethought. Somehow, despite coma induced brain damage, he pontificates on this point. Presumably, his intellect has evolved beyond the capacity of anyone who might see things differently.

Historia
I played all those cool video games. I watched all those movies. I even read the books. In most of 'em, the hero shoots the bad guys, drives a sweet car, never gets hungry, and always seems to get laid by the end. Yeah. Whatever. I gotta be straight with you about why I wrote this journal, and it comes down to one thing, the apocalypse kinda sucks. It doesn’t meet my expectations at all.

Unimpressive
Revisado: 06-11-22
Main character: I’m a blue collar kind of guy so I’m crafty with mechanical things and I’m crude and lewd and cuss every other word and I hate anyone who’s had more money than me cuz I’m a blue collar kind of guy.
Summary- skipped through most of the story a it was a bit slow, the only thing I might have missed was the explanation of how a single shotgun shell can blow off a zombies arm every time…
This story was unimpressive, but the author has potential.
