Historia
Sixteen-year-old trans boy Benji is on the run from the cult that raised him—the fundamentalist sect that unleashed Armageddon and decimated the world’s population. Desperately, he searches for a place where the cult can’t get their hands on him, or more importantly, on the bioweapon they infected him with. But when cornered by monsters born from the destruction, Benji is rescued by a group of teens from the local Acheson LGBTQ+ Center, affectionately known as the ALC. The ALC’s leader, Nick, is gorgeous, autistic, and a deadly shot, and he knows Benji’s darkest secret.

A hard read, but we'll worth the pain if it's in your wheelhouse
Revisado: 04-28-25
I don't think I can recommend this book to just anyone. It is a very LGTBQ+ story (Heavy CWs for transphobia and bigotry, among many others), and its viscerally upsetting both in it's incredibly dark, heavy setting, and in it's horror. I imagine that most readers would be turned away very early on if they don't have a strong stomach for violence, suffering, hatered and the cruelty humans can inflict on eachother.
That being said though, after having gone through it, it can honestly say that it was well worth the pain I experienced to get to the end. It is a beautiful, shocking, and ultimately hopeful story despite its darkness, and I am glad to have read it, and happy to have it in my library. I'll probably need a palette cleanser before I pick up another of the authors books though.
If you are someone who is okay with intense body horror, and want a storyline about trans existence and hope in the face of despair, I can't recommend it enough.

Historia
Quinn can barely handle her own life. When the Library of Everywhere discovers her compatible magical signature, suddenly, she is the sole existing potential librarian. Now, it's not only the weight of her world on her shoulders—Quinn must connect with the library system before the universe itself disintegrates. Once she's settled, it should be quiet, peaceful work—just as soon as she battles a few engorged bookworms, repairs hundreds of years of damage, and figures out why there's been no librarian for the last several centuries.

Promising Series, Rough Start
Revisado: 01-04-25
I picked this up initially because I'm a big fan of Andrea Parsneau's other works, and thought the premise of this sounded up my alley.
I'll start with the good: The narration, as I expected, is top notch work. Parsneau is as good here as she is in any of the other stories she's narrated, and that made the book a quick and easy read for me.
The story itself is unique, and the setting lends itself to lots of interesting characters, places, and events to occur and be introduced naturally. This volume leaves a lot unanswered, but that's expected of the first book in a LitRPG series.
My only real complaint is that the characters in this volume are very.... snappy, I guess? The majority of the book has most of the characters snapping and bickering at each other, and then apologizing for it, which did get old near the end of the volume especially but was something I noticed throughout.
That being said, I didn't think it was out of character, or really an unexpected way for them to act given the circumstances they're in, and I have a feeling that this is something that won't be a problem in future volumes based on how the characters have grown and come into their circumstances.
All in all, it was an enjoyable read, and I am looking forward to continuing the series. I'd give it a 3.5 stars if I could, with an asterisk saying that I think the next volume is looking like it'll be an easy 4+.

Historia
The complete Samantha Moon Origins trilogy of vampire mysteries, including: NEW MOON RISING (Book #1) Samantha Moon hadn't always been a vampire. Once, she had been a wife and mother, happily married to her soul mate and raising two adorable kids. She had also been a federal agent investigating a world teeming with sophisticated scams, drugs, human trafficking and violence. She had hippie parents and a caring sister. She had a small home with an irritatingly detached garage. She had friends, colleagues and normalcy. That is, until she caught the eye of something evil... But first, she had a...

The Greatest Superhero Story
Revisado: 08-25-21
Warning: this book will ruin all other superhero media for you. Marvel and DC hit differently after you've seen what Worm has to offer
Worm is without a doubt my favorite piece of literature, ever. I have read all 1.68 million words 3 times over, (with this audiobook being 2 of those readings) and am in the midst of a 4th reading as I write this. It isn't something that leaves you when you finish it, it sticks in your brain like a parasite, worming its way into facets of your everyday life for months and years after you have finished the story. I cannot recommend it enough, and of the few people I have managed to trick~ I mean CONVINCE, to give it's admittedly sizable bulk a chance, I have recieved nothing but extremely positive reactions (outside of the scorn I receive for getting my friends to dedicate months of their lives to a book, I mean).
I could write a many-thousand word essay on this book, but I won't here. instead, I'll just make a small list of Pros and Cons, and let you decide if you want to commit to this Behemoth of a series (with a strong recommendation that you absolutely should)
Pros:
-The characters are interesting and dynamic, with strong, meaningful relationships that develop with the story
-the setting of Earth Bet is simultaneously familiar enough for you to feel comfortable in, but different enough that you never know quite what to expect from it.
-The powers are FANTASTICALLY explored. No character in the story is just really strong, or can fly, and shoots laser beams. Powers are nuanced abilities, often completely unique to the setting, and allow for incredible variety in battles between Capes. Most importantly though, they are always used INTELLIGENTLY, meaning that even seemingly simple or weak powers can be made strong and complex by the users application
-Taylor Hebert is easily my favorite protagonist from fiction. Her story, and thus the story of Worm, is an experience unto itself
The Neutral:
- The length, though intimidating, is not so bad when you break it down into its Arcs. The story as a whole can be split into 30 Arcs, each varying between 5 and 10+ chapters, and each Arc contains within it a more or less self-contained story within the story. While each Arc feeds into and builds upon those coming after and before it, you can often treat these arcs as natural break points to step away from.
- The pace of the story is quick enough that you will never be bored, with each action setpiece moving into the next scene. Listed here as Neutral since some people may not be a fan of it
The Cons:
- Worm is not perfect, despite my praise. the biggest thing it could use is a good editor, as there are points in the story where it becomes clear that the author likes to use certain metaphors ('waiting for the other shoe to drop' being the most prominent).
-There is one arc near the end that is pretty universally despised by fans, and is in the process of being rewritten by the author.
-The quality of the audiobook itself... Unfortunately, as this is a fanmade project, the audiobook quality varies with the reader, and while most of the Arcs are read wonderfully, there are a few where the quality drops a bit.
If after reading all of this, I have made you at least CONSIDER giving it a chance, here is my quick guide to enjoying it
Step 1: Read the first 3 arcs. About a 3-4 hour commitment. This will give you an introduction to the story, the setting, the characters, and let you really get to see what Worm is about (the first REAL fight between Parahumans happens in Arc 3). If you get this far, and aren't interested, thank you for giving it a shot. if you decide you want more...
Step 2: Finish Arc 8. Another 7-8 hours I'd say. The 8th arc of Worm is where you get to see what the book really has to offer, and is the moment the book stops being 'Good', and becomes 'AMAZING'. It is also a genuinely Harrowing experience, where things will happen that you will never expect. And if you've made it this far
Step 3: I'm sorry. There's no going back now. Finish the book.
I've said enough, I think. I hope you at least give it a try.

Historia
In the blink of an eye, everyone disappears. Gone. Except for the young. There are teens, but not one single adult. Just as suddenly, there are no phones, no Internet, no television. No way to get help. And no way to figure out what's happened. Hunger threatens. Bullies rule. A sinister creature lurks. Animals are mutating. And the teens themselves are changing, developing new talents - unimaginable, dangerous, deadly powers - that grow stronger by the day. It's a terrifying new world.

Great book, narrator has strangths and weaknesses
Revisado: 06-23-20
Narrator pronounces "said" strangely, but you get used to it pretty quickly. Where he shines is with voicing the characters; each character is distinctive, and he does an excellent job at putting emotions into hos lines.
the book itself is great, a favorite of mine growing up that has help up quite well. Looking forward to finishing the series

New York Times best-selling author James Lee Burke's Dave Robicheaux novels began with this first hard-hitting entry in the series. In The Neon Rain, Detective Robicheaux fishes a prostitute's corpse from a New Orleans bayou and finds that no one, not even the law, cares about a dead hooker.
