Historia
Hidden away in rural Devonshire, Phyllida Satterthwaite has always been considered more odd than beautiful. But in London, her oddity has made her a sensation. Far worse, it’s caught the eye of the sinister Duke of Moreland - a notorious art collector obsessed with acquiring one-of-a-kind treasures. To escape the duke’s clutches, she’s going to need a little help. Captain Arthur Heywood’s days of heroism are long past. Grievously injured in the Peninsular War, he can no longer walk unaided, let alone shoot a pistol. What use can he possibly be to a damsel in distress?

Splendid Story
Revisado: 09-21-24
I loved everything about this book, and feel that the narration added a great deal to an already wonderful story. I was already a fan of Mimi's, and will be searching out more narrations by Alex Wyndham.

Last year, Rachel Bacharach met the man of her dreams at a Hanukkah party — and then her outgoing best friend Tamara swooped in and “called” Oz Caplan for herself. It’s a typical outcome for the dependable, bookish Rachel, who is never able to extinguish the spark she immediately felt for Oz. But being secretly in love with her best friend’s boyfriend all year hasn’t been easy.

Not bad!
Revisado: 12-25-23
"Heart plummeted with joy"? Now, there's a phrase I never dreamed of seeing in this lifetime or the next. Sometimes a good dictionary comes in handy. But other than that little faux pas which rather grated on my nerves, this story was quite enjoyable.

Historia
Imagine if you made one little mistake when you were young and were punished for it for the rest of your life. Well, that’s what happened to Lydia (yes, that Lydia, the youngest Bennet sister from Pride and Prejudice), and she’s here to set the record straight. Hold on to your teacups and get ready for sophisticated (and a little bit naughty) hot takes and witty banter that’ll make you laugh—and think. We meet Lydia just as she is denounced by her family, exiled miles from home, and married to the rogue George Wickham, who seems to love all women...except his own wife.

Loved It So Much
Revisado: 12-22-23
I loved every minute of this short story. Sure, it's a bit "out there" when you realize how Lydia and Wickham were in Miss Austen's book. But this is a "variation" and I don't mind when these stories are truly varied. That is, unless an author takes a beloved character like Lizzie and turns her into something stupid, dark, or negative. But when the 'baddies" have a change of heart and improve their attitudes and situations, I'm all for it. This was so wonderfully voice acted (I could have stood for the music to be toned down a bit, however) that I just reveled in it, and couldn't stop listening and smiling until I finished. Well done to writer, producers and actors!

Historia
To escape the sweltering heat, the ever-independent Elizabeth Bennet seeks solace in a refreshing swim, never imagining that the proud Mr. Darcy would discover her in such a vulnerable state. A scandalous and mortifying encounter ensues, but the sparks fly, igniting a passion that neither can deny. However, when Mr. Darcy, driven by duty and honor, insists they must marry, Elizabeth, true to her convictions, refuses him. Haunted by his past behavior and the lingering stain of Mr. Wickham's revelations regarding Mr. Darcy, she cannot bring herself to accept his proposal. Fate, it seems, has ...

Enjoyable Read
Revisado: 12-19-23
However, aside from the few swimming hole scenes, it was pretty much just the same Pride and Prejudice story, though very condensed, leaving many characters out (but not really adding any new ones, or any plot twists, either). The language was slightly more modern (I can't imagine dear Jane ever using such a words and phrases as "smoldering," and "you have bewitched me, body and soul" (which I believe was lifted straight from the 2005 version of the movie). All in all, it was a pleasant way to spend 3 hours, but I've read far better variations. Many of them.

Historia
When Fitzwilliam Darcy meets Miss Elizabeth Bennet, his heart is almost immediately engaged. Seeing the pretty lady before him, a lady of no consequence or fortune, he believes he should not form an attachment to her, unsuitable as such a woman is to be his wife. What he cannot see, however, is the truth. That the simple country girl harbors a secret. Before she meets Darcy, Elizabeth has spent two years hiding from the men who killed her beloved first husband.

Quite long for a Pride and Prejudice Variation
Revisado: 01-09-20
At nearly 18 hours long, I wasn't sure this book would be able to keep my attention, but it more than did that, it absolutely enthralled me. The story was just so good, and the writing wonderful. However, I wasn't really fond of this narration (including a number of mispronounced words), but setting the speed at 1.5% (in other words, speeding it up beyond the 1.25% I usually use) did help considerably.

This one kept me up 'til 4:00 a.m. as I couldn't stop until the story was finished. Lovely story with lots of interaction between Darcy and Elizabeth, enough but not to much angst, story kept moving along at a nice pace, and the reader was superb. Absolutely loved it.
