Aikido in riding- loved it
Revisado: 03-08-25
As a practitioner of yoga and buddhism mark's practice of Aikito in his work riding horses resonated with me. This book speaks about breath, space, intention, etc. Within only a few rides I was able to use some of the techniques mentioned in this book to see when in my own riding I wasn't breathing or when my thoughts strayed. As I began to focus just on those things my connection to my horse immediately got softer.
The narrator was a bit stiff (perhaps that is what M.R. sounds like?)and mispronounced things at times.

Historia
Spearpoint, the last human city, is an atmosphere-piercing spire of vast size. Clinging to its skin are the zones, a series of semi-autonomous city-states, each of which enjoys a different---and rigidly enforced---level of technology. Following an infiltration mission that went tragically wrong, Quillon has been living incognito, working as a pathologist in the district morgue.

"OK". close but not quite there
Revisado: 09-17-24
We have a futuristic dystopian world, a travel adventure, foes to fight, and mysteries which never seem to get resolved!?
The way this was left, with so many things hanging that we were left to take on faith?
I wrongly thought that there was going to be a second book.
I really like Alistair Reynolds books, but for me this was only fair.
Great voice acting.

Historia
The Bobiverse is a different place in the aftermath of the Starfleet War, and the days of the Bobs gathering in one big happy moot are far behind. There’s anti-Bob sentiment on multiple planets, the Skippies playing with an AI time bomb, and multiple Bobs just wanting to get away from it all. But it all pales compared to what Icarus and Daedalus discover on their 26,000-year journey to the center of the galaxy.

I'm most pleased with the fact that this story leaves us expectant for the next installment!
In this book well known and loved characters return. New alien species are introduced. The Bobs travel farther and invent more technology.

creative worlds and characters
Revisado: 05-10-24
My third A. C. series, so different from the others. With fully developed characters and universe in a story with some clichés, but greatly entertaining. I will listen to it again. Very well voiced.

Classic "must" Sci Fi, but dated
Revisado: 01-22-24
I felt that I needed to listen to this and I'm glad I did. Though this is not a book that I will repeat, which is often my habit with Audible. It's rather dated (so, also rather sexist). Ray Porter is one of my favorite narrators, and I did think he did a great job with these stories as well.

Revisado: 09-05-22
Gaiman creates another vivid imaginary (or is it?) world with complex characters and plot twists. This book leaves me wanting more.
What surprised me, was Gaiman's ability to take on different voices and read his own characters so very beautifully.

Historia
A towering genius who'd already solved the problem of death by making memory recording possible, Cassia leads a team of scientists and problem solvers to a station floating in the harsh winds of Saturn. Their mission: to grow interstellar ships using nanobots in the planet's material-rich environment. She called them "monsters" to help sell the project to a skeptical public. Little did she know how prophetic that name would become.

Scifi addict who struggled to finish
Revisado: 04-20-21
Usually I can't wait to return to an audio book that I'm in the middle of. But sadly, not this.
I may be in the minority, but I found the characters two - dimensional, the writing OK, but not great, and didn't find much science in this scifi.

But those aliens left a mark on him: a psychic wound that emanates a telepathic miasma that his fellow humans can neither cure nor endure. Muller is exiled to the remote planet of Lemnos, where he is left, deeply embittered, at the heart of a deadly maze - until a new alien race appears, seemingly intent on exterminating humanity.

Dated and very sexist. Women, beware.

The narrator was decent with what he had to work with. The maze, itself was my favorite character, the others were all too two - dimensional. Women were only mindless sexual objects.

Historia
Welcome to Ringworld, an intermediate step between Dyson Spheres and planets. The gravitational force created by a rotation on its axis of 770 miles per second means no need for a roof. Walls 1,000 miles high at each rim will let in the sun and prevent much air from escaping. Larry Niven's novel, Ringworld, is the winner of the 1970 Hugo Award for Best Novel, the 1970 Nebula Award for Best Novel, and the 1972 Ditmars, an Australian award for Best International Science Fiction.

Fun but needlessly sexist in such a cliched manner
Revisado: 04-08-20
I would have enjoyed this more, 5 stars, if it weren't for it's portrayal of the female characters. It just seemed a lazy writers touch. Sure, what old, obscenely older man wouldn't want to know he could always attract a 20 year old girl. (200 year old youthful woman with 20 year old guy anyone?) The author seems to believe that most males in general would want to reduce women's roles in space to an airheaded companion or prostitute.
Other than that, unnecessary cliche, the book was truly fun, creative and engaging. AndI loved the narration.
I'm going to try the next one... from my library...to see if the trend continues or hopefully evolves.
