Historia
All Systems Red is the tense first science fiction adventure novella in Martha Wells' series The Murderbot Diaries. For fans of Westworld, Ex Machina, Ann Leckie's Imperial Raadch series, or Iain M. Banks' Culture novels. The main character is a deadly security droid that has bucked its restrictive programming and is balanced between contemplative self-discovery and an idle instinct to kill all humans.

Historia
When Pentagon bioterror operative Roberto Diaz was sent to investigate a suspected biochemical attack, he found something far worse: a highly mutative organism capable of extinction-level destruction. He contained it and buried it in cold storage deep beneath a little-used military repository. Now, after decades of festering in a forgotten sub-basement, the specimen has found its way out and is on a lethal feeding frenzy. Only Diaz knows how to stop it.

The Andromeda Strain for boomers.
Revisado: 09-21-19
The story is pretty predictable. What makes this book worthwhile is the deadpan hilarity of the writing, the three dimensional characters and the spot on dialogue. Well, OK. The rednecks sound a little too stupid to be believable but they have their own charm. Thoroughly enjoyed the performance.

And no one is aware that at long last she's got her primal enemy, her twin sister, Camilla, squarely in her sights.

Another great adventure!
Revisado: 09-05-19
Although it is formulaic, the author has come up with fresh ways of getting the dynamic duo into perilous situations and finding new ways of snatching them out of the frying pan. Simon Vance is wonderful, as always, as the narrator. Keeping us informed and lending superior interpretations to the characters that inhabit this Nordic landscape.

Historia
In November 1942, as a part of Operation Torch, 33,000 American soldiers sailed undetected across the Atlantic and stormed the beaches of French Morocco. Seventy-four hours later, the Americans controlled the country and one of the most valuable wartime ports: Casablanca. In the years preceding, Casablanca had evolved from an exotic travel destination to a key military target after France's surrender to Germany. Jewish refugees from Europe poured in, hoping to obtain visas and passage to the United States and beyond.

Beyond Bogart and Bacall
Revisado: 08-24-18
In the run up to the United States entry into World War II, Casa Blanca stood at a crossroads of politics, culture and ideology unmatched anywhere or at any time. This book tells the fascinating stories of the people and events that came rushing together in a critical time and at a critical junction of events. Casa Blanca, the movie, was truer than most know but not nearly as incredible as the actual facts. Any fan of the movie will get great satisfaction from this historical analysis of this place, this time and these people.

Welcome to Derry, Maine. It’s a small city, a place as hauntingly familiar as your own hometown. Only in Derry the haunting is real. They were seven teenagers when they first stumbled upon the horror. Now they are grown-up men and women who have gone out into the big world to gain success and happiness. But the promise they made 28 years ago calls them reunite in the same place where, as teenagers, they battled an evil creature that preyed on the city’s children.

Shocking, sad and infuriating
Revisado: 08-09-17
What made the experience of listening to Killers of the Flower Moon the most enjoyable?
It is impossible to characterize anything about this book as enjoyable. It is a recounting of a tacit conspiracy by an entire community to expropriate the oil wealth of their Osage neighbors. No one comes out of this clean and I weep for victims of this injustice. This case was the initiating event leading to the creation of the FBI, because the local police and judiciary where in cahoots to perpetrate this conspiracy.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Killers of the Flower Moon?
The courtroom scenes where it dawns on one Osage woman that her white husband has conspired to kill her relatives and then her.
Any additional comments?
I enjoyed the narration. It was clear and not over done. I'm sure it was a difficult assignment.

Cary Elwes tells (mostly) all!
Revisado: 06-07-17
If you could sum up As You Wish in three words, what would they be?
Joyous good fun!
Who was your favorite character and why?
Andre the Giant.
What about the narrators’s performance did you like?
Multiple narrators. Some as themselves, others by professional narrators. All of them charming and warm.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Anyone who has seen the movie ( and I saw it in its first run in the theaters ) has probably seen in more than once and has favorite scenes. This takes you behind the scenes and tells why and what is actually going on. Great good fun!
Any additional comments?
This is an homage to Goldman, his book, the movie and the people that made the movie. It was an act of love, just as the movie was. It is charming, affecting and satisfying on many levels. If you loved the movie, you will love this book.

The Entire Canon!
Revisado: 06-07-17
What made the experience of listening to Sherlock Holmes the most enjoyable?
Stephen Fry does a wonderful job of bring Sherlock Holmes, Dr. Watson and the whole panoply characters to rich and wondrous life.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Sherlock Holmes?
There are many moments where Sherlock is shown to be vulnerable and grateful for the steadfast friendship of his boon companion, Dr. John Watson.
Have you listened to any of Stephen Fry’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
When I find that Stephen Fry is the narrator of a book I am seeking, I am always thrilled, since I know I am in for a treat. He works at his narrations as an actor would. His deliveries are spot on.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It was deeply satisfying to hear the entire canon of Sherlock Holmes read in the order that it was published in bound volumes (not necessarily as published in magazines), together with the forwards that illuminated the background and the times during which the stories were written and published.
Any additional comments?
Any fan of Holmes and Watson would enjoy re-hearing the tales in this order and by this narrator.
