Very entertaining
Revisado: 03-24-25
Good stories, well written, well narrated, well dramatized. I was absolutely entertained throughout all the books. So yes, I highly recommend the whole book series, both the narrated and the dramatized versions. Audible does not make it easy to find the series in order, so I have tumbled around a bit between the narrated and the dramatized. Audibles fault.

The two Isac Steel books are simply excellent. So is the performance - by the author, no less - and the production. The stories are intelligent, funny, absurd and with quite an edge towards a variety of stupid. Looking forward to the release of the third book.

It’s a classic, manor house, mystery-within-a-locked-room-mystery for Anty Boisjoly when a death is foretold by a mystic that Anty’s sure is a charlatan. But when an impossible murder follows the foretelling, Anty and his old ally and nemesis Inspector Wittersham must sift the connivance, contrivance, misguidance, and faith in pseudoscience of the household and its haunted history before the killer strikes again.

As all previous books in this series, great story, interesting personalities, and excellently written. It is witty, intelligent and entertaining. Narration is superb. Why, oh why does Audible classify this series as «cozy». It is classic crime on par with the best.

"Rarely have I read descriptions that have left me gasping, in both their hilarity and their painful truth. A wonderful read." ―Louise Penny recommending G.M. Malliet's novel WICKED AUTUMN Is it ever okay to take the law into your own hands? That's the question at the heart of this original short story by award-winning author G.M. Malliet. Maria Ignatius Jona writes an advice column - an "Agony Aunt" column - for the daily Santa Fe Orbital. She inherited the column ten years before from her aunt Bettina, and soon discovered she'd also inherited her aunt's intuition and knack for helping ...

Terrible narration
Revisado: 11-06-24
Is this story almost interesting, possibly average or probably bad? I can not be totally certain, so giving it the benefit of doubt from the little I registered, I give it 2 stars. The narration was mecanic, flat and virtually dead and with a hollow background sound, so I lost the consentration again and again. And again, even when I spooled back . Why will any author have their stories spoiled by virtual voice and isnt it a huge hint not to buy when authors appreciate their own work so little? I got this story for free. Still, it will be returned and this author is no longer on my book list.
To all actual actors out there, thank you for bringing life and caracter to the stories you perform in litterature, film and theatre. To all authors out there who consider virtual voice, show some solidarity to us readers/listeners. And to yourself and the actors.

This series is a pleasure
Revisado: 10-28-24
I have read or listened to the whole series and it is truly a pleasure. The narrator should perhaps hand over the torch, having both too old a voice for the age of Longmire and Henry, and slurring so often it is hard for one like me, who is from Scandinavia, to actually understand what he is reading. I have to go back again and again not to miss out on the story or who is saying or doing what. To bad, for the voice itself is warm and nice and captures the uniqueness of Longmire and Henrys odd personalities and particular ethics. Nice cliffhanger. Looking forward to the next book.

Historia
In The Case of the Case of Kilcladdich, golden-age gadabout Anty Boisjoly travels to the timeless source waters of Glen Glennegie to help decide the fate of his family’s favourite ferment, but an impossible locked room murder is only one of a multitude of mysteries that try Anty’s wits and witticisms to their northern limit. Time trickles down on the traditional tipple as Anty unravels family feuds, ruptured romance, shepherdless sheep, and a series of suspiciously surfacing secrets to sort out who killed whom and how and why and who might be next to die.

Historia
G. K. Chesterton’s Father Brown is perhaps the most lovable amateur detective ever created. This short, shabby priest with his cherubic, round face attracts situations that baffle everyone - except Father Brown and his rather naïve wisdom. The twelve enthralling stories in this book take Father Brown from London to Cornwall, from Italy to France, as he gets involved with bandits, treason, murder, curses, and an American crime-detection machine.

Still charming, but also often difficult
Revisado: 03-02-24
Not as innocent as the first collection, with its generally accepted British race theories and views on other cultures and nations around 1910. Still, Chesterton was also socially critical and tolerant as expressed through Father Browns acceptance of human frailties and his love of mankind. The stories are meant to instill liberal moral and kindness in us all, after all. I still find most of them charming. The flawed ones makes me think that in another 100 years today’s generally accepted views on people, race and other cultures, probably will be equally disturbing come 2124.

Who in the quiet village of Chipping would kill wealthy spinster Idris Campanula? Plenty of people—among them her fellow cast members from a troubled charity production. Miss Campanula was a spiteful gossip, gleefully destroying others’ lives merely for her own excitement. But once Inspector Roderick Alleyn arrives, he quickly realizes that the murderer might have killed the wrong woman—and may soon stage a repeat performance.

Dated cozy
Revisado: 03-02-24
I read several Ngaio Marsh as a teenager some 50 years ago, and found them easy to read and understand for a young person wanting to teach herself english, but even for an inexperienced person quite dated. In Marsh the good ones were good, the bad ones were bad, the young ones were inocent, middelaged women were hysterical, Allen was superior, Fox inferior, and class differences natural. As this book was for free, I thought I would revisit, to see if my opinion then still holds. Regretfully it does. Even the narrator picks up on the nastyness of the love sick and sly middle aged women and quite stupid middle aged men, and read it «catty». I recommend Christie, Tey, Seyers for more entertaing classics mysteries and crime, for those interested in upstair-downstairs culture and for lovely language.

“A very knowable innocence” review by John. I agree.
Revisado: 02-23-24
I completely agree with all of the contents of the review of «John» of 4 years ago. These stories are quite excellent. And though you may benefit from knowledge of European and British history and of the unfairness of the society of the time these stories are written, they are not irrelevant period pieces. They still stand out as surprisingly modern and quite radical moral stories of tolerance and respect for other people, regrettably still very much relevant. Yes, they sometimes choose words or reflect British imperial viewpoints from the time, but only to a degree. They give food for thought also today, unless you choose to be only angered by mans history. The narration is perfect for both the stories and their period.
