Historia
Doris Grandfelt, an employee at an accounting firm, was brutally stabbed to death . . . but nobody knew exactly where the crime took place. Her body was found the next night, dumped among a dense thicket of trees along the edge of an urban park, eight miles east of St. Paul, Minnesota. Despite her twin sister Lara Grandfelt’s persistent calls to the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, the killer was never found.

Title Should Be "Lethal Prey Part 1"
Revisado: 03-30-25
I've read all of John Sandford's books, including all the non-"Lethal" ones, and this is by far the weakest storyline. Plus it ends on a cliffhanger, setting up a Part 2, which probably won't be published until 2026. I'd wait till then, and buy both. Hopefully, Part 2 will be better.

Historia
Private investigator Atticus Priest is employed by a disgruntled ex-husband to dig up dirt on his estranged wife. But when she goes missing after swimming in the River Avon, Atticus uncovers a conspiracy between five lifelong friends that goes back years. The friends did something when they were younger that they're not proud of. It's something that would land them in a world of trouble if it ever came to light. Something they've been trying to bury ever since. But Atticus finds one secret and then the next.

Don't Bother@
Revisado: 12-05-24
The novel devotes 90% of it's time to a group of sociopaths who whine, bicker, and betray each other. I've read all of the Atticus Priest books when character development of Atticus and his surrounding cast was 90% of the novels. Reading this book was like being locked in a room for hours and days with people you can't stand to be around. Let's hope the next book is much better.

Being an unwanted twin in the Imperial line of succession, Farilane became a scholar, adventurer, and in a time when reading was once more forbidden—a book hunter. Her singular obsession is finding the mythical Book of Brin, a tome not just lost but intentionally buried. Respected and beloved by the Teshlor Knights, not even their legendary skills can protect her for what she finds is more dangerous than what she sought.

Absolutely HATED the ending!!!
Revisado: 07-02-23
In both Noyln and Fairlane my favorite characters suffer terrible fates. In Noyln, that character loses her soul, and in Fairlane, the lead character has to die due to a prophecy. Both suggest that one has no control over one's fate, and there is only one predestined future. As a result, I felt insulted and cheated. Why would anyone want to read books where the best and most noble characters face terrible, unredeemable fates? I will definitely not be reading any more books by Michael J. Sullivan.

On her sixtieth birthday, a woman commits suicide. When the case lands on Detective Carl Mørck’s desk, he can’t imagine what this has to do with Department Q, Copenhagen’s cold cases division since the cause of death seems to be clear. But his superior, Marcus Jacobsen, is convinced that this is not in fact a suicide, but a murder related to an unsolved case that has been plaguing him since 1988.

Revisado: 10-04-22
Love the series, but not this one. Too depressing an ending. I'm sure everything will be happily resolved in the next book in the series, but I read books for escape and enjoyment, and got the opposite here. A book that ends like this one makes me angry that that the author treats loyal readers with such callous disregard.

One of my favorite series..... until this book
Revisado: 09-17-22
Right up front, I'm going to confess that I listened to all 32 hours and 42 minutes of this book, adding "Surely it's going to get better" to the long list of lies I've told myself. Not quite grounds for psychotherapy, but close, very close.
During these 32+ hours, all of the interaction between the "suspects" occurs in an endless series of chat rooms. By by the third or forth one of these, I can almost guarantee that you'll want to pull your hair out and strangle all the characters.
Looking back, if the fictional Strike world would have blown up in a nuclear holocaust 10 minutes into my listening and the other 32+ hours were nothing but static, the book would have been much more enjoyable.
An additional point: If you're a fan of the series, like me, you probably ended the previous book (#5) thinking "Surely Robin and Strike will confess their feelings for each other in the next one." To prepare you for disappointment, please re-read my first paragraph above.
You know, I think I'll share this book with someone I really don't like.
(But surely, the next book in the series will be better. Right?)

Evan Michaels struggles with being different, with having the complete memories of two other people who lived sequentially before him. He fights loneliness and believes he is unique until he meets Poppy. She recognizes his struggle because she is like him, except that she is much older, remembering seven consecutive lives. But there is something else she must share with Evan - she is a member of the secretive Cognomina. They are, in effect, immortals - compiling experiences and skills over lifetimes into near superhuman abilities that they have used to drive history over centuries.

"Not a single sympathetic, likeable character"
Revisado: 12-19-21
The protagonist is a criminal, totally amoral, doesn't seem to regret killing his mother in a previous life (or any of his other crimes), whines continuously, and doesn't have an ounce of empathy or kindness in him. I got so disgusted with him, I stopped listening midway through the book.

When a woman in Bel Air dies of a rattlesnake bite, the case doesn’t seem to fit the usual purview of LAPD’s Special Cases Unit. But Carrie Holder was no ordinary LA woman. She was a member of the city's latest cult, the Church of the Gate, which counts Hollywood's movers and shakers among its devotees. Investigating the cult's secrets takes Detective Michael Gideon, his German shepherd K-9 partner, Sirius, and pit bull rescue Emily across Los Angeles's canyons, neighborhoods, and movie studio lots - but all the while, an even darker threat looms closer.

It turns out that surviving the depths of the labyrinth and helping stop a coup both tend to attract notice. If Hugh had his way, he'd happily go back to being just another anonymous student. He has more than enough to deal with already as he starts his second year, between his crushing load of schoolwork, training as a prospective candidate to the Librarians Errant, and navigating a long distance relationship.

Absolutely a wonderful series!
Revisado: 06-15-20
Political intrigue, young magicians, their powerful mentors, labyrinths, demons, multiverse monsters, a reawakening race of souless being, And as a counterpoint, the human experience of falling in love, heartbreak, teen angst, bullying, feelings of shame and isolation, bravery, ingenuity, and teamwork.
Love the voice actor, Ralph Lister, whose voice chacterizations are so amazing, you'd think there were an entire cast af actors.
Thank you Mr. Bierce. Can't wait for the next book in the series.
